Q: How do you know what size is best?

submitted by msedney - 1 year ago
  • A: We recommend choosing a cup size based on cervix height as this tends to be one of the most impactful factors when it comes to the comfortability of a cup. If you are not sure how to check your cervix height, we have a great how-to video on our YouTube channel. :)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love my saalt cup. I love how I can just forget about it until the end of the day. It stays in place and doesn’t leak. Insertion and removal takes some getting used to but I feel like that will come with practice.

They changed the material to be softer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have the original regular size and I was in need of another. I purchased and it looks like they changed the material and it is now softer. This is a huge hummer because I think this cup is too soft to begin with. Even the color is a different shade so they definitely changed it. I'm not sure if I should try purchasing again or just switch brands completely. I loved it before. Not thrilled with the bot customer service emails either.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tried cups about 15 years ago and didn’t have any luck. I assumed it was because of my retroverted uterus. I decided to give it a try again because the tampons I liked were getting harder to find. I received the saalt cup and it was much smaller than the one size fits all cup from 15 years ago. I’m a convert! It was easy peasy and I suspect my failure before was due to using the wrong size and had nothing to do with my uterus placement.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the Saalt survey to help me determine which cup to purchase. The beginner turns out to be too difficult for me. Even after watching the tutorials online, I have a hard time folding it and inserting it. The silicone is way firmer than I thought it would be for a beginner. Unfortunately, I am not going to be able to use this product.

I wanted to like this so bad however the suction on it did not work as it was too big and it was my first time so I didn’t know any better. Started bleeding instantly after and had to take out. Then I panicked because I could not get it like at all. Since I couldn’t get it out, I panicked some more and then eventually 10 to 15 minutes later. I finally got it out suction on it is great however it just takes too much work to get out when it doesn’t fit properly. Trying to find out how to return or get my money back on this wasted products, sidenote, I usually use super tampons and have had two kids, and the regular did not work for me

I wanted to love this because other period products are annoying, but it didn’t meet my expectations. It doesn’t hold enough, but is comfortable and easy to remove. I tried it on my moderate flow days, and it lasted maybe 3 hours before leaking.

Hi Sarah, thanks so much for taking the time to share about your experience with the Saalt Cup. We are so sorry to hear the cup was uncomfortable, it sounds like a smaller size or softer silicone cup may be a better fit for you! Our team would love to make it right - if you email sayhey@saalt.com, a Saalt Coach from our CX team would be happy to offer a replacement for you.

First time cup user. Love it!

I’m a first time cup user and this cup was so easy to use and the instructions were so clear and helpful. I also like how the way it’s packaged itself is kinda like a tutorial on how to fold it and remove it. The first time inserting it was a bit tricky but once you got it in it unfolded itself easily. I wore it all day for an 9 hour shift with no leaks and didn’t even know it was there! I only had one leak after wearing it overnight while my flow was at its heaviest and it overflowed and even then the leak was super tiny. This is a game changer for me because tampons make my cramps worse and I don’t like the mess of pads. Plus no more spending $20+ on pads and tampons every month! 10/10 would recommend for new cup users like me!

Better quality of life

I admit that I experienced some discomfort and uncertainty during my first cycle. I don’t know if it was just in the back of my head that I knew this thing was up my who-ha or what. But by the second cycle I was a pro! I don’t have to worry about carrying other feminine products or running low or any of that. I CAN LIVE MY LIFE! I’ve given birth naturally to large babies (9lbs+) and the small size stays in place and is sufficient for my flow, which usually starts heavy and tapers to light. I remove and rinse in the shower in the morning and then again before bed. My ONLY qualm is that my stem just broke off. And I thought I could make it work, but after shoving as much of my hand as I could to retrieve it, I’ve opted to purchase a new one because I don’t have time to be fishing in my cooch, sweating bullets thinking I’m going to have to get outside help. In short, absolutely will give this another try. I’m already used to the benefits. Hoping that maybe they can work on making the stems a little sturdier and in the meantime I’ll work on my technique of pulling it out.

I bought this cup about a year ago. At the time I HATED it because I had a terribly hard time breaking the seal and couldn’t get it out, it hurt so bad. I gave it a few more tries and the time to change it never seemed worth it. This time my period came… I was out of tampons, didn’t have money to buy them, and I wasn’t getting paid for three more days. It was either using the cup or nothing at all, and I had work. I had a hard time with the first 3 removals and didn’t get it to seal on one of the insertions. But, I had no choice except to keep trying and I’m SO glad I did. I love this thing!! My cramps have been MUCH less painful and I’m so worry free! I can’t recommend these enough!

No grip to remove

Heyhihello - 1 year ago, Verified purchaser
The pull tab to remove the cup is not good. It lacks ribbing and grip. I have used the diva cup for 6 years and just got this cup and regret it. The tab needs ribbing! There is zero grip for removing the cup to empty it. Very frustrating
1 reply from Saalt team - 1 year ago
So sorry you have been struggling with removal! The stem of the cup is meant to help locate the cup and should not be pulled on. During removal, you will want to walk your fingers up the stem to the base of the cup, pinch the base of the cup to release the seal, and then gently wiggle the cup out. If you need any more tips, please reach out to our Saalt Coaches, they are always happy to help. :)

I really had high high hopes for this because of the reviews but I think the downfall was a personal problem. I had no issue putting it in and getting it in the right position but the removal was really hard and painful for me. I really want to try again to reduce costs but I can’t experience that again it wasn’t as easy to remove as I thought/researched.

I started using a Diva cup back in 2019 and decided to try this cup this past year. I leak every single time and it’s a pain in the butt. Speaking of, every time I have to poop this thing comes out of me. Imagine my surprise when I have to catch a menstrual cup. I’m disappointed because I loved this design better than the diva cup but I’m sick of leaking on my period and being scared to poop
1 reply from Saalt team - 1 year ago
Leaking can be caused by a number of factors and our Saalt Coaches are always happy to help! Just reach out at sayhey@saalt.com if you would like to chat with them.

So I'm an xs to small in pretty much everything. I got the small one hoping it would be ok. Turns out of was more than ok. She's a great product. She sections very well. Too well. The first ten minutes of trying, i followed the instructions. I then panicked. I was trying everything. Clawing at the edges. Clawing at the inside of me. Nothing. Absolutely suctionec into place. I saw my life flash before my eyes. I thought I was going to have to ask my elderly mother to PRY this out of me. After about THIRTY MINUTES OF STRUGGLE I somehow managed to get one hand on the other side with other hand pulling on the bottom. I was free. I am free. I'm sure this work on other people... but please take so so much caution and make sure you have a very close friend

I am ordering the soft version of this cup. I definitely recommend getting soft and small if you have GI issues. I’ve used a few different ones, and soft silicone and small is the key. Unfortunately, I misplaced the soft when I moved. I have had bad cramping and bladder issues with the firmer. I used to prefer the firmer though. Oh well, everyone changes overtime.

Pros and Cons

1 out of 5 stars
Megan - 1 year ago
So I have been using this for about a year now. I will say I do get less cramps with using this over tampons, and it has easy insertion and removal. Also minimal leakage (only happened once or twice for me). That being said, I don’t know if it’s a me problem (I’ve had a kid over two years ago and got size small), but I can barely pee with it in. It’s like it presses up against my urethra or something. I can also feel it inside of me and if you don’t cut off the stem, it’s going to poke the heck out of you. So at this point I only wear it at night and stick to tampons during the day. Currently trying out the flex disk (can pee and poop easily with it in) but I can feel it putting pressure on my public bone. As much as I dislike tampons, I might be sticking with them
1 reply from Saalt team - 1 year ago
Sounds like the Saalt Soft Cup may be a better fit for you! The Soft Cup is made of a softer silicone that can help prevent the bladder pressure you are describing. If you are interested, please reach out at sayhey@saalt.com.
