Safety 1st Lever Handle Lock

The item works just as you would want it to. However it does make it easy to lock yourself in or out of a room. If this is on the other side of the door and activated, there is nothing you can do. We had to break into our bedroom when we were locked out of it, thankfully the baby wasn't in there! There are similar items that only block the doorknob pulling it downwards. I would recommend one of those so you can still go in and out of the room by lifting up on the lever.

Though this item is marketed toward parents who want children out of certain rooms, this handle lock is incredibly helpful to us as cat parents! It's the perfect handle lock for cats who are able to get into certain rooms on their own with door handles such as the long, horizontal ones where the cats push down on the handle and open the door by themselves. The installation was super easy as all you had to do was take the adhesive off the back of the lock and then stick it onto the door where the handle falls inbetween the gap of the lock.

This is a safety and fire hazard, even on interior doors. I’m surprised they are allowed to be sold.

This is a great child lock and very renter friendly! It’s very easy for an adult to open but my kids would not be able to open it at all and that gives me great peace of mind

Bought to keep my cat out of our guest room since he can open the handle and it doesn't lock, it stops clever cats very well.

Toddler immediately broke through it. Also I share some of the safety concerns that other reviewers have raised .

Virtually impossible to remove! My new house has this crap everywhere and I have getting it off is impossible. Who wants child locks on everything forever???

DO NOT USE THIS IF YOU DONT HAVE AN INDEPENDENT OPENING LEVER. I just locked myself out from my toddlers room and had to break the door to get in his room!!!! So so so so dangerous for kids! And so traumatizing

It took my 2 year old 3 days to figure out how to open his door with this lock on it. There’s too much room between the locks for the door handle to move, and it’s not adjustable.

This review is solely related to how hard it is to get the adhesive backing off. Finally got it after resorting to using my teeth.

The lock works just fine, but getting the sticker off the back is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my entire life…

Absolutely a safety hazard if your lever handles don’t rotate independently on each side. There’s no way to unlock the latch from the opposite side. You can reduce the risk by installing it inside a room, but that means it can’t be locked when the room is empty, and it’s still possible that a toddler could lock themselves in and not be able to get out.

Purchased this to safely prevent my son from leaving his room. Ended up with him getting locked in his room with me having no access to get him out with. The adhesive on the back took forever to get off and I know is going to rip the paint when we take it off. The idea is great, but knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t want to risk it again as if I put it now on the outside of the door, I myself could get locked in his room if it was moved by accident by child.

the adhesive backing is fused for be adhesive so that it can't be removed, making the product useless. so frustrating, I needed the item urgently. clearly they have a defective batch of locks.

My 2 year old daughter shifted to a "big girl" bed recently where she can get out on her own. Last night I purchased this safety lock to safely keep her inside her room during quiet time. I tried today to apply the safety lock and the adhesive covering won't come off. I've tried every square inch of the covering and it's already glued to itself. I paid almost $15 for a single child safety lock and it doesn't have enough quality to have the adhesive cover come off. The really sucky part is that I already threw away the packaging becuase I figured if I paid $15 for a safety lock I could at least get the adhesive covering off. Now I'm stuck with a piece of plastic that is unusable.

So far it’s been great. My son has been able to escape every lock in every baby gate that we’ve have owned. So far he hasn’t been able to figure this lock yet.

These are great for doors with handles. Easy to operate and keeps children safe.

I purchased this item because my 2 Year old daughter has a thing for opening doors now. This lock is so sturdy and I feel so much more secure now! I honestly would recommend you purchasing this item!

Worst product ever! My 2 year daughter was stuck in her room and we had to break her door to get her out. It was extremely traumatizing for my daughter and myself.

You used to be able to push up the bottom to lock but now you have to push the sides to lock AND unlock. This is SOOOO frustrating.
