The Lever Lock is a clever way to prevent your little explorer from accessing off-limit rooms. It installs easily and can be operated by an adult with a squeeze on the hidden buttons built into the hinge. The decoy button won’t do anything when pushed, but adults in the know can easily open the door. This is a 4 pack.

Q: Hello, Do you really have to wait the 24 hours before use?

submitted by Ash - 4 years ago
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question! We recommend waiting 24 hours as per instructions for use to allow the adhesive to properly secure the product in place prior to use

Q: I am looking for a lock that will prevent an elderly lady from leaving her apartment at night until morning staff comes. If this was installed for the indoor part of the door, could people open the door from the outside?

submitted by Destiny - 5 years ago
  • A: Hello. This is not meant to be used for exterior doors as safety precaution (house fire for example).

Q: Is it just for 1 door or does this product come with more than 1 for multiple doors?

submitted by Charmama - 5 years ago
  • A: Hello there. This is one lock. If you need more you will need to purchase the amount needed.

Q: How do you remove the lock? I’ve read details on site and no explanation of how to remove

submitted by Val S - 5 years ago
  • A: Hello! This is an adhesive-mounted lock, so to remove we recommend using dental floss or fishing line between the adhesive and the door in a sawing motion to cut adhesive away from the lock. Remaining adhesive residue can be rolled off the door with your fingers. If you wish you can briefly run a hair dryer on low heat over the lock to help soften the adhesive before removal.

Q: Would the adhesive withstand a golden retriever that opens the door?

submitted by Jk - 5 years ago
  • A: Hello! This lock has not specifically been tested with animals but it has been tested to withstand up to 46 lbs of pressure for 10 seconds.

Q: Does the adhesive work on a tile? I intend to use this to avoid my toddler turning on bath tub faucet handle.

submitted by Pradeep - 5 years ago
  • A: The Lever Lock is specifically designed for use with an interior door. We could not guarantee how the lock will work in a moist environment, like a bath tub, or that the size would fit a bath tub lever securely. We would not recommend using it with a bath tub lever.

Q: In case of emergency, can it be unlocked from outside?

submitted by Sus - 6 years ago
  • A: The lock is only able to be disengaged from the side of the door that the lock is installed on.

Q: Can you turn the handle up as well as down? Our door only locks when the handle is pulled up and only opens when pulled down..

submitted by Sandy - 7 years ago
  • A: Hello. This lock only allows the handle to open in one direction, only up or down depending on how it is installed

Q: Would the adhesive work on a wooden door? Would the adhesive still come off without damaging?

submitted by Babytidwell - 7 years ago
  • A: Hello. If the wood is not chipped and if it does not have peeling paint, the adhesive should come off without a problem

Q: Would this be good to use on a front door?

submitted by Katy B - 7 years ago
  • A: Hello. We do not recommend using the Outsmart Lever Handle Lock on any exterior doors.

The item works just as you would want it to. However it does make it easy to lock yourself in or out of a room. If this is on the other side of the door and activated, there is nothing you can do. We had to break into our bedroom when we were locked out of it, thankfully the baby wasn't in there! There are similar items that only block the doorknob pulling it downwards. I would recommend one of those so you can still go in and out of the room by lifting up on the lever.

10/10 Recommend! [Cats]

Though this item is marketed toward parents who want children out of certain rooms, this handle lock is incredibly helpful to us as cat parents! It's the perfect handle lock for cats who are able to get into certain rooms on their own with door handles such as the long, horizontal ones where the cats push down on the handle and open the door by themselves. The installation was super easy as all you had to do was take the adhesive off the back of the lock and then stick it onto the door where the handle falls inbetween the gap of the lock.

This is a safety and fire hazard, even on interior doors. I’m surprised they are allowed to be sold.

This is a great child lock and very renter friendly! It’s very easy for an adult to open but my kids would not be able to open it at all and that gives me great peace of mind

Bought to keep my cat out of our guest room since he can open the handle and it doesn't lock, it stops clever cats very well.

This was super easy to place on the door and serves its purpose of preventing kids to go into a room you do not want them in. I would buy more of these if necessary!

Perfect for containing curious toddlers

This product could not have arrived at a better time. We are currently living in temporary accommodations in an apartment and our 22 month old has figured out how to open the apt door by herself. This lock keeps her from being able to do so, and thus keeps her from making a getaway for the elevators by herself. The decoy button is perfect. She plays around with it, it does nothing and she moves on. It was very easy to setup and since it didn't require any nails, screws, etc. I felt ok about installing it in our temporary living situation. We have been using it for about a week, but it seems sturdyly attached to door handle. With baby #2 arriving any day now, I'm so glad to have something that is keeping my curious toddler safely contained.

This product ideally is a great concept BUT is an absolute parents worst nightmare if your 2 year old figures out than the lever can move without pressing the side buttons. My son locked me into the restroom and I was trapped for an hour and a half. I luckly had my cell phone with me and called 911 to get me out as my husband was out of town and we were the only ones home. We have now removed all of these levers so this never happens again!

I am in love with this lever lock! My three year old is now tall enough to reach the dead bolt on the front door, so of course I was looking for an option to keep him safe and this is surely it! This lock was so simple to install and easy to use while keeping my children safe!

This product is very useful. Was extremely easy to install and is simple for an adult to use....keyword being adult! My toddler is constantly pressing the decoy button and has not figured out the actual way to open the door. The hinge hides the actual button needed to press. Will be purchasing more!

Install Very easy to install. You just peel the backing and stick it on. It was a bit off on our door because the design of our door isn't completely flat but the little bit that wasn't adhesed to anything didn't make a difference. Use It was easy for most people in our house to use. My husband and I had no issues with locking/unlocking. My parents had a harder time. Like other people mentioned, you can lock it without pressing the buttons, so that was an issue once our son was a bit older. During a party, an older guest got locked in the bathroom because he put the lock in place while the door was open and then couldn't pull the lever down when he tried to come out. Removal You'll have to use some hacks. It was easy enough once I used some tricks. I used fishing line to "floss" between the door and the lock. Once the lock was off, the black adhesive backing stayed. I used a blow dryer to soften the adhesive and started at a corner to peel slowly until it was all off. I kept the heat on the entire time so just be careful.

This type of door handle is easier for little ones to reach and open than standard doorknobs. This works well.

My son hasn't figured out how to open doors yet, but it's only a matter of time as he is on the move and very curious. I was excited to see this type child proofing for this kind of door handle. My nephew is a few months older than my son and likes to get into the bathroom to play in the toilet. We installed this product on our bathroom door and put him to the test. He could not figure out how to open the door with this in place. My sister was so happy that a product finally allowed him to stay out of the bathroom that she went to purchase one for her home. It does take some practice but it is easy to use once you get use to it. The decoy button is a great distraction for those little ones.

This was so easy to set up which is a huge plus! I'm a first time Mom so I'm definitely a bit more paranoid when it comes to my child. It works exactly how it's advertised! If you have a little one that is extremely curious and active this is definitely the product for you.

Good idea, but hard to use one handed

We installed this on my son's closet door because it opened into the closet & not outward into the room. Door needs to be completely shut in order to work. You need both hands to open the lock. With our lever handles, the lock needs to be fully disengaged. I think it would work really well on slimmer handles.

This is crazy difficult to remove. I had to saturate the back with Goo Gone, and pry with floss, until the floss broke. I then tried to pry with fishing lie until it broke. Both of which cut up my hands, but did make a little leeway. Applied more Goo Gone. Asked my husband to help me. He used a twisting motion on it until it gave way. Then i used a razor blade to get off the residual adhesive and foam. All I can say is I'm happy it's gone.. Whew!

Easy to install door lock

4 out of 5 stars

This door lock features a design where the lock goes around the door handle, and a button has to be pushed to make the handle function. It is a great idea, and definitely toddler proof. I found it very easy to install. However, it is a tight fit around the lever, so it's a little challenging to push the button without using both hands. I would use this for a sneaky toddler who can outsmart basic door locks to keep him out of rooms that aren't used too often.

Great but there is MAJOR DESIGN FLAW

FrustratedMom - 10 months ago
originally posted on doreljuvenile.com
At first I loved this product, but then I realized that if you do not push the lever all the way down, which is easy to do, then it's possible to push it back up without pushing on the side buttons - my 3 year old thinks it's fun to do. The unfortunate result is that I've gotten locked in a room more than once. Luckily my kids have been with me and I have family nearby who could come to the rescue. But there should be ZERO possibility for the lever to be moved the buttons being pushed. MAJOR DESIGN FLAW AND SAFETY ISSUE. SAFETY LAST.
