Q: Does this shut off automatically if left on?

A: Hi Deb, Salton sandwich grill model TSG710 does not have an auto shut off feature. Once plugged in, a red indicator light signals the appliance is energized. You must unplug the unit when not in use.

I thought I would like it. Didm't know I'd love it. Great nonstick, easy clean. The 1000 watt power draw doesn't overload the limited electrics in the semi. It heats quickly and toasts evenly. So far I'm frying eggs and meats, as well toasting bread and sandwiches, Just had a wonderful little quesadilla. The smooth plates are ideal. The only possible improvement I see would be an open-flat 180° hinge, but it's excellent as is.

I wish I had purchased this sooner. My teen and tweenage sons love making their own grilled cheese, and for a mom it's a little less stressful than having them use a frying pan and a stove. I just wish they liked cleaning it as much as they like using it!
