About the Book

Hope Harbor police chief Lexie Graham has zero time for romance--but the handsome ex-con she enlists to help her with a wayward teen may convince her to make time for love.

Book Synopsis

Hope Harbor police chief Lexie Graham has plenty on her plate raising her son alone and dealing with a sudden rash of petty theft and vandalism in her coastal Oregon hometown. As a result, she has zero time for extracurricular activities--including romance. Ex-con Adam Stone isn't looking for love either--but how ironic is it that the first woman to catch his eye is a police chief? Yet wishing for things that can never be is foolish.

Nevertheless, when Lexie enlists Adam's help to keep a young man from falling into a life of crime, sparks begin to fly. And as they work together, it soon becomes apparent that God may have a different--and better--future planned for them than either could imagine.

Lauded by Library Journal as "a master at character development," Irene Hannon welcomes readers back to this charming Oregon seaside village where hearts heal--and love blooms.

Up until recently when I thought of Irene Hannon's books I thought of romantic suspense. With her new adventure into contemporary fiction I'm beginning to broaden my thought classification of her as a writer. I love her voice in suspense and her contemporary fiction writings aren't far behind. Irene's Hope Harbor series makes me want to take a trip to the Oregon coast. The town is full of what all small towns should be, friendly neighbors that care about and for each other, quirky characters that keep things from being boring, and a sense of belonging that makes you feel like you've been a part of the community forever. Plus the beautiful seaside setting doesn't hurt anything. In Sandpiper Cove we focus on two people that should belong to two different worlds. Lexie Graham is the police chief and Adam Stone is an ex-con. You would think that the two would steer clear of each other. But the heart is a funny thing. It doesn't consider a person's past, only those possibilities that lie ahead. I enjoyed reading about how these two seemingly incompatible puzzle pieces began to fit together. There are other ongoing storylines that allow the readers of the series to catch up on what has been going on between the books. Even though this book is part of a series I still think it can be read as a stand-alone novel. There is enough background given for the reader to understand what is going on without being redundant for the series reader. If you've liked Irene Hannon's romantic suspense I urge you to give her contemporary romance a try. You won't be sorry! I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

I had so much fun reading this book! Sandpiper Cove is the third book in the Hope Harbor Series. I haven't read the first two, but after reading this book I would love to. That being said, I don't think it is necessary to read the previous books in order to enjoy this one. I loved getting to know the residents of Hope Harbor, and can't wait to visit again. I found it very hard to put the book down, even though it made me stay up later than I should have. In Sandpiper Cove we follow Lexie and Adam as they get to know each other while helping out a troubled teen. The last thing on Lexie's radar is romance, so when she experiences odd feelings around Adam she doesn't know what to do. He is nothing like her husband was, and that only confuses her more. Being the town police chief she has everyone watching her. What would the town think of the chief and a ex-con spending time together? Adam has had a lonely life, but he's gotten pretty used to it. Why is it that after getting to know Lexie that his loneliness is more noticeable? He has no delusions about her having any interest in someone like him, but he can't help what he's feeling. Can they both see beyond themselves to what God has planned for their lives? I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Contemporary Romance. I loved every minute and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. The characters were relatable and interesting. I really enjoyed reading a story with an ex-con as a main character. I had never read a book like that, and would love to see that more often. I received a copy of this book from Revell in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
