Q: Is the adult tricycle already assembled or does Target assemble it after purchase?
submitted by DeniseC - 2 years ago
A: Hi Denise. That's a great question. This usually depends on the retailer. Sometimes they have some on the floor already assembled and "ready to ride out of the store." Other times you may find them pre-assembled in-box and on the self! Warm Regards.

Love this trike!! Arrived quickly and box was intact. After reading reviews I decided to have my local bike shop put it together for me-so I can’t comment on assembly but for me it was worth it to have someone else do it! My step dad modified it so that I could carry my 5yo in the back. We used metal plates to attach a car seat. My son loves it!!!

Hi Scott, We hate to hear the bike arrived damaged. The Meridian does have a Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects. It sounds like you're in good hands with the bike shop getting your new ride repaired. Should you need replacement parts for the bike, those are covered for one year from the date of purchase. We're here Monday-Friday 8am-5pm at 800-626-2811 to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have regarding the trike. Thanks, Jen

Nice Trike, Potentially Challenging Assembly
4 out of 5 stars
English Major - 6 years ago, Verified purchaser
It’s a nice, sturdy and attractive machine once you’ve got it properly assembled.
Important things to consider:
Unless you are mechanically inclined, and ideally have worked on bikes before, the assembly is best done with two people … and perhaps not two “English majors” like myself. At the end, despite working with a more adept friend, I surrendered and took it to a shop so that they could help me with the subtle front brake adjustment/alignment.
As often mentioned, the rear fenders can be problematic given the very small clearance. Both the paper manual and online video explain only that they “may need adjustment.” No doubt I can call the weekday support line to get advice, but you’d think that if this is a known problem, there would be adjustment directions. After multiple failed attempts to position them so that they don’t rub the tires, I’ve left them off. I’m guessing the solution involves experimentation, pliers, and strong forearms, but that's just frustration talking.
I didn’t experience the “rear axle popping” mentioned by a few other customers, and none of the many parts were missing. So that’s nice.
The space required for storage should not be underestimated: I had originally imagined that it would need as much room as two bicycles “sandwiched”, but it’s wider than that. Also, it’s heavy, so turning it around in a small space could be arduous for some people.
In the end, happy with it and the value.

Remedy for common popping, creaking, axle noise
4 out of 5 stars
Thumbs up graphic, would recommendWould recommend
M - 6 years ago, Verified purchaser
My husband is a mechanic. So, despite reading the cricks, and creaks, and pop noises reviews about the rear axle I went ahead and purchased the bike for three reasons. The reddish/cherry color of the bike is high visibility, the Schwinn name and reputation means I am more likely to get replacement parts, and the 26 inch large wheel means less effort when riding. So, my husband put it together in less than an hour at his mechanic shop, even with the other guys oggling it and commenting and trying to interrupt. :) When I test rode it, sure enough, the rear axle did pop and make noises as other reviewers had warned. However, my husband torqued on the (doubled) nuts next to the wheel, then he adjusted the tiny perpendicular screws dead center of the bike axle (by screwing them in slightly, or unscrewing them, while rolling back and forth listening for the popping to stop) until he heard no more noises. Then he rode the bike and I rode the bike and so far no more noises. It rides like glass. You have to steer. You get used to the light touch steering of the handle bars. I'm thrilled so far.

Bent Wheel

wobbly - 6 years ago, Verified purchaser
Functionally, it works as needed, but the physical condition was poor. Unit arrived with a minor dent in one fender, minor scratches, but more importantly....a BENT right wheel. Bike pedals, steers, & stops properly, but wheel rubs side-to-side on the fender.

It's a good bike, but needed some modifications to make it ride. For example, it pulls to the left so we are having to make adjustments to fix it. Also, this bike is not "red" but it's more dark burgundy almost maroon. That makes a big deal when you were expecting a red bike and you get a very different color. We bought this for my mom and parents are proud alumni of the Texas Longhorns and my dad is poking fun at me about why I bought my mom an Aggie bike. ;o

Feels really wobbly and like a wheel is going to fly off. Makes all kinds of creeks and clicks mixed with bangs. Feels like it’s going to tip over with the slightest turn. I returned it.

Received early. Assembly was a little difficult as the parts were hard to align the holes. Probably made in China, but the material quality of the parts seem very good. I didn't use the included directions. There are some very good videos on "youtube" for assembly of the Schwinn Meridian...one of them from Schwinn.

Overall it seems like a pretty good bike. I like the height - I was worried I would be sitting low on the bike- that is not a problem at all. The bike does pull to the right a bit - but I think I just have to get used to riding a 3 wheel as opposed to a 2 wheel - I am still learning to adjust to the differences - but so far so good. The only real problem I had was with Fed Ex - they lost the first bike - but customer service at Target was excellent and took care of everything and got the bike sent on through - but Fed Ex was also late delivering the replacement bike Target sent me.

First the positive, ride is smooth. Now the negatives. FOUR HOUR ASSEMBLY TIME! Unless you've assembled a bunch of bikes in your life and know ALL the terms, you're going to say "huh?" A lot during assembly and images don't help cause it's all in slightly different shades of grey and inverted from how you're ACTUALLY working. The seat, No matter HOW MUCH I tighten the adjustment for the seat, it STILL tilts so it's getting all up and IN my business when riding and that's not okay. Like I'm about to get some JB Weld and permanently keep it in place. The rear fenders, no matter HOW MUCH I try bending them, can't keep them from rubbing on the tires. That's genuinely a design flaw, they don't make the arms that go from bike frame to tire cover long enough so then the screws rub the tires. So those got removed cause I'm NOT having my tires popped after spending THIS much time and MONEY on a bike. So there you have it. A smooth ride that's a pain to assemble with a seat that won't stay where you put it and rear fenders you should NOT attach.
1 reply from SchwinnCustomerSupport team - 7 years ago
Hi M - you're right, the seat shoudn't be tilting like that nor fenders rubbing. Your Schwinn Meridian comes with a limited LIFETIME warranty. Give us a call, we'd be happy to help. 1-800-626-2811

I've had my tricycle for about 5 years and it is the easiest bicycle I've ever ridden. Really easy to peddle other than into the wind of course. My dog rides in the back and my husband put an umbrella on the basket so she could be in the shade. It's all about being seen since you're riding pretty much always in a street. The only thing I would change about the bike is the seat. And I've looked into other seats and this one can't be changed out. The more comfy seats require two more bar attachments and they say there's no room for that. Anyway, I will buy another one when this one falls apart. So far all I've ever had to do is add air in the tires (when it hasn't been ridden in a while). The more air in the tires, the easier to ride.
