Q: Will this tape fix a rip in a jacket? Is this tape washable?

submitted by Online shopper - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello, thank you for taking the time to contact 3M. Typically, the tape is intended to join two pieces of fabric together that have crisp edges so you may need to test the application to verify success can be achieved. With a delicate cycle and liquid detergent, projects will hold up in the wash with our ultra-strong adhesive. Do not use bleach or powder detergent. Tumble dry on low heat (air drying is always recommended). If you have any additional feedback or questions, please feel free to reach out to our team at 1-800-328-6276 and reference # 37598631 Mon-Fri 8am-4:30pm CT.

I bought 2 packets to hem some curtains in my bedroom. They certainly work and VERY sticky. Definitely holds the hemmed fabric in place. I’ve used iron-on hemming tape before and this works way better. Attached some pics of before and after hemming; also during and placement. Not sure how it would hold up to machine washing but these are curtains, hopefully I won’t have to launder them.

Fantastic for gems and now I use to make other no-sew craft projects. Just customized a tee shirt with it! I found that burnishing/rubbing the tape strips down onto the fabric all the way to the liner edge helps removes liner. I apply all the tape strips first, then come back and remove in order placed. For some reason, the longer the adhesive stays on fabric, the easier it is to remove the liner.

In a pinch, this product was easy to use when my sewing machine broke. Be careful with the adhesive, as it can stick to your fingers. Overall, a great product that I would buy again if needed.

Absolutely impossible to use. Tried twice, once to do a quick hem on slacks, and again to apply a patch to a three-cornered tear. Could not, in either case, get a corner started to peel off the brown paper. Would NEVER buy again -- a waste of money.

Smell is horrific, and i didnt notice until after my project was finished.

Zannazu - 1 year ago, Verified purchaser
Very sticky and does job well - also smells HORRENDOUS after both sides of tape have been peeled and it’s placed onto fabric - somehow I managed not to notice, until after my project was finished and how it escaped me until then is hard to fathom. Used it to turn a cowl neck into a funnel neck; turned the ribbed knit sweater inwards a few times and taped it down - the effect was beautiful; unfortunately I’ll never be able to wear it as the tape smells so very, very bad. Have laundered three times in high quality odor removing detergent and it smells so strongly of toxic nastiness I can’t be in the same room with it - nor can I remove the tape. Will either cut the neck out or throw the sweater away unless a genius method of stink removal is discovered quickly.

I bought this to hem some pants and took it in the basement to iron out in place, as I've done with hem tape. No need (duh! - what was I thinking 🤪?) - this stuff sticks on its own and is very secure. I find it was easier and works better than been tape that you iron in place, and seems to stick MUCH more securely, although it remains to be seen how well it will hold up in the wash. To use: keep the top tape on and pull a strip off the backing. Apply, then pull off the cover strip and press the fabric into place. I suggest pressing a seam first to make sure you are hemming to the right length, and applying it in sections: you get one shot so need to get it right the first time. I used 4 strips to hem a pair of wide leg pants: I left a few inches between sections and will simply track them into place rather than trying to fit the tape in between. Next time will apply them closer together. This stuff is very durable and was great for the cheenos I had to hem, but I don't think I would use it on a very lightweight fabric such as linen.

I tried to hem a polyester jumpsuit with these strips. The adhesive doesn't even stick to the fabric. When it did, it would rip right off when trying to take the brown piece off. Super upsetting since I can't see

Bought this to hem stretch pants. I used 12 strips. It was easy to separate the the strip from the cardboard backing and place it on the fabric. However it was EXTREMELY difficult to separate the remaining backing from the super thin/fragile adhesive strip! It took me at least an hour to use these strips. I could have hand-sewn the hems quicker!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed to hem my husband’s golf shirt sleeve. I tried this product and it was fairly simple. The key is to decide how to do your project. I added the sticky tape to the part that would fold down onto the shirt. Overall, it was easy and NO iron! The best advise I can give is this tape is sticky! Place it once!!
