Description

The striking industrial design combines form and function seamlessly the layered metal and plastic headband construction attenuating vibrations to the earcups while the handmade microfiber earpads offer exceptional comfort for even long periods of listening enjoyment.

Crafted for perfection the HD 800 S is precision-built in Germany from only the finest materials and components. The transducer is encased by stainless steel while the headband and headphone mounting utilizes the most advanced materials developed in the aerospace industry for high strength with minimal weight.

The new HD 800 S offers even better high precision connectivity options and is now supplied with two connection leads a 6.3mm connector and a XLR-4 balanced cable to offer even better quality sound from sources with balanced outputs such as the Sennheiser HDVD 800 headphones amplifier.

Absorber technology of the HD 800 SThe enhanced sound reproduction of the HD 800 S is achieved through the addition of the innovative absorber technology that was pioneered in the Sennheiser IE 800 a breakthrough that preserved the audibility of very high frequency sounds by eliminating a phenomenon known as the masking effect where the human hear struggles to hear frequencies of sound when lower frequencies of a higher volume occur at the same time. By absorbing the energy of the resonance Sennheisers patented absorber technology prevents any unwanted peaks and allows all frequency components even the finest nuances in the music material to become audible. This innovation was a key element in making the IE 800 the worlds best sounding in ear headphone and in the HD 800 S it helps to bring even greater purity and precision.

Such enhancements build on the formidable achievements of the classic with the 56mm sound transducer the largest ever used in dynamic headphones. The unique ear cup design directs sound waves to the ear at a slight angle to create an impressively natural and spatial listening experience.

While much appears the same the enhanced performance within is revealed by a distinctive new look with the silver finish of the 2009 classic HD 800 making way for high-class matte black for the HD 800 S.

Finest set of Cans out there IMHO

Hi bought these several years ago and am really blown away by the quality of the music they produce. The level of detail they reproduce and quality of the soundstage is remarkable..so much depth warmth and all done very sensitively. Obvious it depends on the recording and your amplifier..so you need dedicated amps for these, But if you connect them direct to your computer especially later MacBooks you will be pleasantly surprised by their performance too. Overall they provide a very immersive experience and you will loose yourself in the music as it takes centerstage in your mind and lets you be fully engaged with the performance. The base is nicely balanced without destroying the importance of the midrange characteristics and vocals are pure and detailed. got to hand it to the engineers who designed and built these .......they must have fun as it shows...

I am in love with these. I originally got the 480 series and they are good and comfortable but not I want to get more quality audio and these hit the spot.

Not enough clamping force, they slip off when reclining. XLR cable supplied cannot be fitted to the headphones. Left earpiece developed increasing distortion after only a few weeks. Resolution pending.

Exceptional soundstage, exactly what I was looking for in a dynamic headphone in this class, personally don't find them as shrill as some reviews suggest. Definitely recommend!

Its performance is beyond my imagination, it's like singing in my ear! The only thing is that it hasn't innovated in all these years! Is this the bottleneck I feel I have reached?

These things are crazy, detail and separation like you’ve never heard! Heavily amp and source dependant but in all my years being an audiophile I’ve never heard anything so nuanced. Some albums I’ve been familiar with for almost 40 years and used with some great equipment now extracting sounds like I’ve never heard, nothing is left in the recording after these. And when well-matched it sounds nice and spatial as well. Didn’t want to like these, they’re expensive, and I’d rather save money, but now I’ve heard them there’s no going back. Nothing I’ve listened to has come close to this much highlighted within the recording, it's all present and portrayed where it all should be. They are very large, and you never forget your wearing them, but as big as they are, they're still fairly comfortable. I was interested in the Hifiman Arya as well, but I think the comfort of those would get to me, and I’m not that keen wearing headphones, but these Senns just about get away with it for such large headphones. Higher exotica headphones don’t appeal to me, they cost way too much, and I can't see them beating these at nuance anyway. I am no longer even interested in trying the Arya’s, the 800S are end game for me. And I tried a few of the Senn lower models as well series 6, they didn’t really do it for me, the 800’s were a gamble for me that paid off, I’ll cherish them! Vocal and instrument timbre is just amazing as well.

Great headphone. Wait for sale though, don’t buy at full retail price. Build feels great and sound is crystal clear. Just not perfect enough to be quite worth the 1800. Also -1 star because they don’t include a balanced 4 pin XLR cable anymore (they used to) and are gonna charge you 300 for one off their website.

Amazing, an upgrade from HD 700 to 800. It doesn't have the comfort of the HD 700 but it does maintain the "I forgot they were on me". The soundstage is even greater and anything that has an instrument in the song sounds absolutely fantastic. Jazz, rock, orchestral music excel with these. Ontop of that, I can hear things that I couldn't before that were hidden in songs. Deezer is a good example of a place to hear HiFi quality of songs with these headphones. Definitely recommend!

I'm fairly new to the audio scene and I've been using the HD800s for about 3-4 weeks now and have found the sound to be clean and very pleasing to listen to, I do not miss the bass and prefer the more controlled base. I generally listen to a lot more rock/metal and music from the 80/90's but have been also listening to Classical and other genres as I've gotten older. I'm driving the HD800s via USB to a Topping DX7 Pro and added a Loxjie P20 with some "Matched Pair NOS Relektor 6n3P-E" tubes. I use them via the 4.4mm pentaconn to a XLR balanced adapter to the P20 and then balanced XLR back to the Topping. I found that the sound going via the P20 to be more pleasing but that could just be me. Listening mostly to FLAC via Plex and also using Amazon Music HD/Tidal. I was originally using the Sony WH 1000XM2 for most of my music and a number of different headsets for gaming. I made the move to the HD660s about a year ago and was always eyeing up the HD800s and decided to make the jump. After 4~ weeks I decided to put the HD660s back on and I personally found the base really harsh and heavy - I would imagine if I went back I would get used to it again but I've got to say that HD800s are the more comfortable headphone out of the two and the audio is cleaner and more defined. On a plus side the audio positioning for FPS gaming is just as good as the HD660's if not better. I've just got a the IE 300's for a more personal audio experience when travelling (slow journey away from wireless!) all of the Sennheiser sounds great from the experience I've had so far.

I like the headphone sound a lot, but I am highly disappointed about the build quality. The connector band resting on top of my head during usage has already partially disintegrated, which should not happen after 6 months in any product.
