This is my second HDV 820. Purchased the first about three years ago and absolutely love it. Both digital and analog inputs are excellent. Adding a second digital coax input would make it perfect. Rather than putting a switch box in the music path, I purchased a second to benefit from the extra connections. Yes, I like it that much! Have been Sennheiser family since my HD 424X headphones...yes, still in use 😁👍

Purchased earlier this year and it still holds up as a fantastic sounding kit. The integrated DAC sounds very detailed and refined on its own - DSD files especially sound very buttery and smooth. USB connects easily to laptop or other devices such as a DAP. If using a PC/Laptop I would recommend using a streaming app like Qobuz which will connect directly to the HDV ASIO driver, allowing maximum listening fidelity. It truly shines as an amplifier, especially when using the balanced XLR inputs, so having a balanced connection to your headphones is crucial to get the most out of this kit. I currently have the Schiit Bifrost 2 DAC connected via XLR and the sound is truly end-game. The headphones I am currently alternating between are the Sony MDR-Z1R (Rich base, great for rock/pop/hip hop) and the Hifiman HE-1000se (wide open soundstage, highly resolving) headphones which are less sensitive but both sound amazing. Highly recommend this kit for the price as you are getting a solid DAC with the capability to play DSD files as well as an elite amplifier section that layers and immerses you in the music.
