Shadows at Dusk is the second book in Elizabeth Goddard's Missing in Alaska series. However, it can easily be read as a stand-alone novel. The prologue was intense and immediately grabbed my attention. The next few chapters were difficult for me to follow. They alternated perspectives between Carrie and Trevor and were different locations in Alaska. Once they met, the story intersected, and it was easier to follow. Carrie has an incredible backstory. It is easy to see why she struggles with trust and is fiercely independent. When she loses her best friend, she has to put aside her trust issues and rely on Trevor for help. Trevor has his own agenda. He is looking for his missing sister, Jennifer. Her last known location is Alaska. Going on Chief Long's recommendation, Trevor asks Carrie for her help. While she is resistant at first, her loss seals the deal. The stakes are high, and bad guys abound. The Alaskan wilderness might just prove deadly. Carrie and Trevor struggle to stay ahead of the bad guys as the clues mount and point them to a location no one wants to go. Thank you to Revell for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Shadows at Dusk by Elizabeth Goddard is the second book in the Missing in Alaska series. Honestly, this book wasn’t it for me, it took me a while to get into this story. I did enjoy the descriptions of the Alaskan setting. One of the reasons I didn’t enjoy this read is, I didn’t connect with the characters. There was no depth to them and one thing I really don’t like is when characters are put into risk and/or danger due to their illogical or irrational thinking and that was the case here. Once or twice, I can understand but these characters continued to do this, acknowledged they knew their mistakes but didn’t seem to learn from them. Another reason I didn’t love this story was the romance, the characters fell in love way too quickly for my liking. I know they had a past, but I just feel it was forced/rushed and not realistic. I feel like this story could have more depth to it and the overall plot just didn’t do it for me.

The setting in the wilds of Alaska invited me into the pages of this book and the plot and characters kept me there all the way to the end. The premise is that Trevor West, a detective from Montana, arrives in Alaska with the sole purpose of finding out what happened to his missing sister Jennifer. Jennifer left behind photos but no other clues about her strange disappearance, so Trevor seeks the help of intrepid bush pilot Carrie James. Carrie has just suffered a devastating loss when her mechanic and best friend Isaac is murdered, so she agrees to help Trevor follow the clues in the photos if he will help her find who killed Isaac. The hunt is on, for Jennifer and for Isaac’s murderer, but it is not without peril to the determined duo. Just when I thought things were calming down, something else happened to bring danger closer to both Carrie and Trevor and anyone whom they question. Something strange is going on in the wilderness and the trail these two follow is scattered with bread crumbs and false leads. The plot is fast-paced and heart-in-your-throat thrilling as they get closer to the bad guys who are set on taking them out before their deeds are uncovered. The plot is believable and completely engrossing, with an addictive mystery as well as a developing romance. I enjoyed getting to know Trevor and Carrie, but I especially enjoyed some of the native characters like Elias and Rip, men who are not afraid of danger or taking chances to help others. There is an underlying faith element in the story that is the glue that holds it together as the lives of the main characters are being ripped apart. The plot threads are intricate and masterfully woven together into the stunning landscape of Alaska. With sharp writing and authentically riveting details, the author tells a story that is rich and intriguing. I cannot wait for the next book in the Missing In Alaska series, although each book can definitely be read as a standalone. Disclaimer Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell via Netgalley as well as from the author as part of her review team. Trevor's sister disappeared a year ago, and he was not going to give up searching for her. He had left his job to follow her trail up to Alaska. He had found some clues to where she might have gone, but he needed help from someone who knew the country. The 49th state is still wild and a lot of it is unexplored, he needed someone with experience if he had a chance of finding her. Carrie was a pilot who knew the area better than most, and he found himself begging her to help him. Carrie has been hiding for ten years from her fiancé, who thought he had killed her in Africa. Her good friend Isaac had whisked the two of them away to hide in Alaska, and start an aircraft business. After a decade, she was going to leave in two days to meet a friend from Africa, and she had no intention of letting Trevor or anyone else delay her. That is, until the sudden death of Isaac, which she knew was murder. Because of that, Carrie and Trevor had made an agreement. She would help Trevor track down his sister, and Trevor would find Isaac's killer. They were in for the adventure of their life, if they survived it. Despite being in the middle of nowhere, killers pursued them. If the harsh dangers of Alaska didn't do them in, the people on their trail would. They risked radiation poisoning, being lost in endless tunnels of an underground cave, and the terrors of a place called the Mountain of Death. This story will keep you on the edge of your seat as you wonder who will survive. The faith of the characters adds realism to the clean tale. Fans of thrillers and mysteries will enjoy this five-star book. Thank you, Revell Publishing, for providing Tickmenot with a book to review. Opinions are my own.

Elizabeth Goddard always provides readers with fast-paced, high-action, romantic suspense, heavy on the suspense. It is what make me always keep an eye out for her next book. I am especially enjoying her Missing in Alaska series of which Shadows at Dusk is the second installment. In this story Detective Trevor West is searching for his missing sister, a geologist who went missing while on leave from her job at EchoGlobal. He hires bush pilot Carrie James to assist with his search, and almost immediately gets sucked into the danger that is following her, possibly from her distant past. Alaska is a beautiful backdrop to this intense tale, and the lead characters have multiple opportunities to fly over and hike through its beautiful and perilous terrain. Fans of Robin Patchen, Irene Hannon, and Lynette Eason are likely to be or to become fans of Eizabeth Goddard as well. Shadows at Dusk works very well as a stand-alone read. If you do happen to read it first, I've no doubt you will find yourself going back to the first book in the series which is equally as entertaining. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of Shadows at Dusk from Revell via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Anything set in Alaska always catches my eye, it’s a beautiful place to visit. This book is the second in the missing in Alaska series. And boy did the prologue grab me right at the start! Trevor, a detective from Montana, comes to the Alaskan Panhandle in search of his sister that has been missing for over a year. Police chief Autumn suggests pilot Carrie would be the one for him to search out for help. She flies the area regularly and would be able to take him wherever he needs to go. Trevor is afraid of flying so the first takeoff or two had me chuckling as he clutched the seat for dear life! But they encounter danger and closed mouth locals whenever his sister’s name is mentioned. What was she doing in Alaska? Trevor sure wants to find the answers. There is an area that the locals call “Death Mountain”. What secrets does it hold and what is being hidden? A very heart pounding, edge of your seat story that kept me enthralled and entertained throughout. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher but was not required to write a review.

Fast paced with twists that keep readers on the edge of their seats, this book will stay with you long after the last page is read. I loved how Carrie has survived betrayal from a man she thought she would spend the rest of her life with. I can’t imagine being thrown out of a plane by the man you loved. What is really a miracle is that Carrie survived. She thinks the past is behind her and she has found a place to hide out. Her dear friend Isaac has been like a father to her and rescued her from what could have been her death. When she discovers him dead, her world is shattered. What did he need to talk to her about as she was leaving that day? Was he trying to warn her of something? Trevor has come to Alaska to find out what happened to his sister who has been missing for a year. All he has to go on is something she kept for him in a safety deposit box. He gets Carrie to fly him over the area where the clues that were left for him might give him some answers. A strange accident finds the pilot that Trevor hired after Carrie couldn’t help anymore dead and with him was the only lead he had to find his sister. Was the pilot a victim of pilot error or something more sinister? With danger surrounding our two main characters the author delivers a powerful story. Carrie and Trevor start to see that there may be a connection between what they are investigating. Carrie is fierce and has no problem taking care of herself. I loved her strong character and appreciated how she was a bit skeptical of trusting Trevor. Now Trevor with his good looks and sharp mind was a little hard to like at times. He shares just enough with Carrie but still holds back a little. Will these two find a way to trust each other? It will come at a high price as Trevor and Carrie dig deeper into his sister’s disappearance and Carrie’s friends death. I loved being in Alaska and following them on their journey. It is a breathtaking place but it can be dangerous if you are not prepared for the terrain. There are little communities that are tight lipped about anything going on in their town. As Trevor and Carrie get closer to the truth, threats start surrounding them. Don’t overlook the people who do help our two main characters. I loved how these people were willing to risk their lives and stand with Trevor and Carrie. The ending is thrilling, dangerous and filled with deceit, revenge and trust. I loved how the author brought Trevor and Carrie together in an adventure where puzzle pieces started to fit. The relationship between the two is slow to develop and I’m glad that the focus of the story was more on the illegal activities they were investigating. What a roller coaster ride this has been. The author includes faith elements in the story and how the main characters learned to rely on God to see them through danger. I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. The review is my own opinion.

Wowsers! Goddard promised to take readers on a wild and crazy ride...and she certainly didn't disappoint. This book was a rollercoaster thrill-ride from the very first page until the last. There was always something going on: danger, suspense, angst, crashing, rescuing, lots of bad guys causing chaos, many prayers said, and crises of the heart. My head was spinning from everything. And I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I loved getting to know Carrie and Trevor, and visiting Autumn, Greer, and Nolan (from Cold Light of Day - read it if you haven't). This is Christian Romantic Suspense at its finest! Highly recommend. Many thanks to Revell and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation. I received both an eARC and a paperback.

I received this book as an ARC with no expectation of a positive review. Ms. Goddard's books keep getting better and better. Carrie is a bush pilot in Alaska. Trevor comes to Alaska looking for his sister who has been missing for a year. He hires Carrie to help him track down the last known places that Jennifer, his sister, had been. Carrie has secrets that she does not want to expose. She does not trust anymore. What happens when someone comes for both of them. Who can they trust?

A fast paced, suspense, and danger filled ride that will keep you reading long into the night! The second book in the series did not disappoint. Its gripping beginning keeps you captive until the very end. Heart pounding danger, unexpected twists, and romance make this an absolute thriller! Detective Trevor West comes to Alaska to search for his missing sister. His path intersects with pilot Carrie Jones who came to Alaska to escape a dangerous past. Circumstances bring them to work together and find them constantly fighting danger at every turn. As they fight to stay in front of the danger, both must come to grips with pasts that haunt them. Shadows at Dusk is an excellent addition to a thrilling series! Likable characters, creative storytelling, and a gorgeous setting combine to make this an unforgettable read. Anxiously awaiting the next release! I was given a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

I really enjoyed this second installment in the Missing in Alaska series. While it is book 2 in the series, it can totally be enjoyed as a stand alone read. Full of action, suspense, and danger, I was hooked from the very beginning. The author does such a great job painting a picture of the Alaskan setting that you almost feel like you are right there with the characters. When Detective Trevor West shows up looking for his missing sister, bush pilot Carrie James reluctantly agrees to help him. That decision sets in motion a chain of events that keeps them both running for their lives, while trying to solve the mysterious disappearance of Trevor's sister. What a great story, full of plot twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I received an early copy for review. Opinions expressed are my own.

Shadows at Dusk is an exciting, intriguing addition to the Missing in Alaska series with non-stop action and riveting suspense from beginning to end! This unputdownable read combines just the right amounts of suspense, romance, and faith. The story features wonderful, compelling characters I came to care about as they navigated difficult circumstances with danger around every corner. The richly sketched authentic Alaskan setting, with its expansive remoteness and breathtaking beauty, enhances the suspense of the story and transports the reader to the scene. Fans of inspirational suspense will not want to miss this book or the series! NOTE: Although a few characters from the first book appear in this one, it can easily be read as a standalone. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Action from the very beginning. Carrie James is a bush pilot in Alaska. She is hiding from her past or rather the man who pushed her out of a plane that was in flight 10 years ago in Africa when she caught him smuggling. When Isaac, the man that saved her is found dead, she believes he was murdered, she agrees to help a Montana detective, Trevor West, look for his missing sister, Jennifer, following some photos that she took and left for him in case something happened to her. This story is a roller coaster ride of suspense, excitement, edge of your seat, hold on tight, what's going to happen next. It seems like every time you think Carrie and Trevor are going to be safe something else happens. They have bad guys following them every step of the way to try and stop them from finding out the truth behind the death of Isaac and Jennifer's disappearance. Sheriff Autumn Long and her husband Grier from the first book show up in this story too. Besides all the action and suspense there is the element of faith as Carrie and Trevor ask God to help them throughout their journey and the romance that is building between them.

“As the two close in on the answers they crave, they’ll face dangers and connections they could not have imagined,” states the description on Amazon in Elizabeth Goddard’s novel, Shadows at Dusk. ~ What ~ The second in the Missing in Alaska series, this three-hundred-and-fifty-two-page advanced reader copy targets those interested in a clean romantic suspense based in rural Alaska. With no profanity, topics of physical abuse, murder, and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. The ending includes acknowledgments, an excerpt of the next book in the series, the author’s biography, and advertisements. This continuing story finds bush pilot Carrie James having had to restart her life in a rural town, always protecting her heart from falling in love again. But when her best friend and co-worker ends up dead, she joins forces with outsider Detective Trevor West to find the killer. Meanwhile, West tries to uncover where and why his sister disappeared a year ago. But when both become targets, they must work together to solve the past. ~ Why ~ Having been to Alaska, I love the story’s vivid descriptions of the land, terrain, and beauty. Almost every chapter contained a fight or flight scenario that kept pace as Carrie and Trevor tried to stay alive and ahead of the killers. The scenes involving karst, caves hidden by the Tongass, and float planes were believable and convincing. It can be a stand-alone read in the series even with its prior characters involved. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not like reads that include physical abuse, tragedies, and murders may want to avoid this one. Others who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ may not be interested in it, but it is not overwhelming or pushy as it often references praying to God and Bible verses. ~ Wish ~ I wish the book gave the eternal plan of salvation. I prefer all pronouns of God capitalized for reverence. ~ Want ~ If you like romantic suspense thrillers, this second book in the series flies high above Alaska as two protagonists seek the truth about their past personal tragedies. I received a complimentary copy from Revell through Interviews & Reviews. I was under no obligation to give a positive review.

With two mysteries instead of one, this book introduces Trevor and Carrie, and brings back Autumn and Grier, and Nolan, for a few cameo appearances. Carrie flies her small plane delivering supplies around Alaska, and Trevor needs her help to find his sister who has been missing for a year now; since Carrie knows the area, she can look at the photographs he has and tell him where they were taken, following the breadcrumbs of Jennifer’s travels. Trevor holds onto hope that his sister is still alive, despite the overwhelming odds. But Carrie has her own mystery unfolding, and tragedy quickly follows with the death of her dearest friend. She insists it wasn’t an accident, and agrees to help Trevor find Jennifer if he helps her find the person responsible for her friend’s death. So they embark on a journey together that grows more and more perilous - because someone doesn’t want them to find the truth. And the more they dig, the more those two mysteries seem to be connected somehow. The action suspense was non-stop, and the romance, very mild, was believable in its subtle slow build, with an initial strong attraction as Carrie immediately dubbed Trevor ‘Mr. Blue Eyes.’ Neither main characters are big on trust, though, as both have suffered betrayal from a loved one, yet can’t deny their growing feelings for each other. Carrie sees examples of Trevor’s goodness, but is worried that his intense drive for justice will put her heart at risk. I had my suspicions about who was behind it all, but it wasn’t easy to figure out and there was plenty of unknowns to keep the reader second guessing what they thought they knew. I really enjoyed the roller-coaster ride and the strength and resilience of both Trevor and Carrie. No damsel in distress here, who can’t handle the pressure, but neither was Carrie obnoxiously too strong in a better than other people truly don’t need anyone kind of way. Although, she does try to tell herself she is, because she’s been hurt and fears trusting and relying on anyone else. Her healing journey was beautiful and encouraging. Trevor was a bit intense sometimes and I would have liked to understand his world and motivations more, as I didn’t feel like I connected with him as much as Carrie. All in all, an adventurous and fast-paced suspense mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat! I would recommend this book for older teens and adults looking for a clean and intense suspense thriller with just a touch of slow build romance. I received this book for an honest opinion.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.

I can’t think of anyone who might be after me, except the man who killed me. Carrie can only testify that God was with her, she survived! As a pilot in the wilds of Alaska, every day she does what she loves - flying and helping people. Somehow she gets caught up in the search for the missing sister of Detective Trevor West. That’s when her calm existence became an adventure in survival again. This heart pounding suspense is sure to keep you trying to figure out whether or not the dots can even be connected. Sabotage, fire, murder and non-stop action will keep you on the edge of your seat. Will the missing be found or will they all die? Remembering what the Lord had already brought her through gave the courage to go on. An early copy was received through Baker Publishing Group, Revell and NetGalley. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
