The sewing machine has received mixed reviews from guests. While some appreciate its variety of stitches and automatic features, many have experienced issues with reliability, such as thread bunching, needle breaking, and jamming. The machine's build quality and user manual have also been points of contention. Despite these issues, a few guests have found it useful for specific projects like mask-making.

I bought this machine with much enthusiasm. I read the manual and watched the video tutorials online. However, the first day I used it sewing zigzag (stitch #13), on linen with a muslin backing, it got stuck a number of times and broke 2 needles. I "fixed" it, and used it again the next day. It kept on getting stuck every 10 minutes. I decided to package it and return it to the store where I bought it.

If you ever felt agitated starting a computer or opening an app. That will likely be how you feel every time while using this machine. It is insanely sluggish. There's a weird delay with the pedal when starting and stopping. So be prepared to lift your feet off a stitch or two before you need to because it's going to keep going. for a stitch or two. I wish I bought the heavy duty one and not computerized.

Good Machine, but needs improvements

I own different Singer machines with great experience with Singer brand. These newer machines need improvement on the buttons to select stitches, having arrows going up and down will make the stitch selection more effective. The automatic needle threader needs to be more precise, right now as it is takes several tries to get it to work.

I have used it very little to date. I love the auto-threader though. I must say, however, wrapping up The Fashion Mate my husband bought for me our 1st Christmas in 1975, I was astounded by the difference in quality. My original machine is all iron and metal and substantial (with it's own carrying case and Manual). My new one, although much lighter, is so plastic. Time marches on. Thank you for asking.

I bought this machine thinking this was an upgrade from my 30yr kenmore. The 88 stitches is an upgrade, automatic threader is an upgrade but and this is a big but...everytime I sew cotton the bobbin thread constantly bunches. I've rethreaded, changed needles, rethreaded bobbin making sure it's clockwise, ckd for dust , played w tension just in case since I'm new to this but still the thread bunches. I spend more time picking bunched up thread out of my fabric than I do sewing. Singer I'll gladly give you this back for a better one. This headache of a sewing machine is forcing me to spend more money on a better machine to continue enjoying this newfound hobby.

I bought this machine as my first machine with money from my first job as a Christmas gift to myself. It seems like deceptive practice at hand that this machine had only 5 stars reviews (probably all sponsored) when it came out and then when it was on the shelf just long enough for other people to buy it, it's no surprise the 1 star reviews came rolling in. This machine has never been reliable. It jams, it eats fabric, it breaks thread, the manual is like two pages and provides zero pertinent information about the machines. I've had other sewing enthusiasts take a look at my machine for trouble shooting, but it never runs correctly for very long. I love the concept of the machine. I thought it sounded amazing for a beginner. The marketing definitely went for "Easy to Use." The actual production quality of the machine is trash. I'm so sad I wasted money on this thing. I'm sad it's barely had a life and now it's going to end up in a landfill. Never buying a singer again, they can't be trusted.

I have owned this machine for a couple months and, it worked ok the first week but then it started all kinds of errors from stiching errors to stitch selection pattern errors, I have read the (PFD) manual on the machein and tried everything the troubleshooting said to do as I have owned this machine since I bought it brand new for several months not and i Have been having problems wish started out as ' simple" adjustments but quickly went from there to major issues. i have read the (pdf) owners manual and have done everything the trouble shooting says to do as well as watch youtube videos and "playing" with the settings myself but i still get the same results no matter what i do or what needle i use for the different fabrics calls for. the sewer is very finicky of what fabric i am using in my project and it either WILL NOT attempt to sew the fabric or it will bind and suck my fabric in side the machine causing me to take the foot plate off and the the bobbin case out to free my materials and in many cases the material is destroyed. and it throws the machine out of balance , or bends my needle or breaks my needle. I cant even use half the sewing pattern feature stitches , many of them will return to the default pattern to straight stitching and will not even attempt the sewing pattern i choose . I have rethreaded top and bottom many many many times and same results occur , I have changed needles , cleaned the machine as the manual instructs with no change in sewing errors. now my foot pedal isn't working properly , i have to literally set my foot down harder then normal just to get the machine to start sewing at all. the foot pedal issue has recently within the last week happened and i have not changed the position where i have placed my foot pedal at all ( yes i made sure the pedal is snuggly and properly connected ), the machine is finicky about where you place the spool of thread as well and no matter what, the tread will break or it will stop spinning the tread through my machine even when i rethread the machine. the thread often bunches and makes a clancking sound after i free my material and thread, the bobbin thread breaks at times for no reason at all . I am using the highest quality thread so these issues with the exception of the sewing patterns reverting to the default setting should not be occurring. even when on the selected sewing pattern and the tension adjustments (which I have tried every combination and sew pattern setting this machine offers and it still wont even attempt the sew pattern and revert to default straight stitch. sometimes when i am sewing with the machine there will be a smell of what a computer smells like right before it dies completely because the motherboard is "fried". I started having these issues the second week i had my machine , this is why i started "trouble shooting" using the manual and youtube , the machine will work a few days then will return to malfunctioning with sewing , stitching and binding issues. it will not sew light weight material at all and dont get me started on stretch material and foils , " yes i use the recommended needles for said materials and well as the correct thread or the materials , still not sewing the material, even when it "feels like" sewing the material , the machine will destroy the material in many cases. . I don't know it these issues is because the mother bored may be defective or the foot pedal bored foot pedal bored is defective or a combination of both the internal mother bored and pedal bored circuit . most of the local singer certified repair shops wont service the machine. my machine is still under warranty but if nobody will service it then it is garbage and a loss of money for the purchase this and I will not recommend this modal AT ALL TO ANYONE.!!

Have to request a handbook if you don't want to use the PDF download. The foot pedal stopped working and found out the nearest warranty center is an hour away, with tolls and do I really want to spend my Saturday driving in traffic to a congested area during a pandemic for something I've had less than a year? No. Will take it to repair shop next town over, pay for repairs, sell it at a loss. Bought a metal Brother sewing machine, almost $100 cheaper, much more quiter, and I find a more quality machine overall.

I bought this in May as a birthday gift. Should've just thrown my money off a bridge. I have never had so many issues with a sewing machine. I fight with machine a lot. I actually resorted back to my 1960's gold singer as I never have issues with it. I just wanted something more modern and do different stiches as my old one no longer does zig zag etc. The bobbin doesn't wind probably. I hate where you put the bobbin. It sounds cheap as well. This is my 4th singer I've had, all of mine are pre 1968 and I've never had many issues with those. Just basic wear and tear over decades of use. I should've saves my money and bought a different brand. I'm not buying modern singers.

I bought this machine as the reviews said it was awesome. It’s not. It’s literally the worst. For example the bobbin will jam about ever 30 minutes almost destroying multiple of my projects because it rips the fabric, sometimes the thread will just snap because something inside breaks it, occasionally it just doesn’t stitch properly and I have to completely restart what I am doing or sew over it and last but not least I have had to take this thing apart because that hold the needle in the center of the foot is broken and now the needle sits all the way to the left. I wish I could return this item as it was the worst investment.

Not a single time I sew using this machine that doesn't fail me. I'm a patient woman and not easily gets frustrated when things don't go well. But finally, I had to blow up because of this machine. From threading the bobbins to replacing the needle and to starting sewing, it's a complete mess. The top thread keeps on coming off. I check the way I thread it and it's properly threaded but it keeps on unthreading. Can't even finish a simple project in one day. I am very disappointed and mad at this machine. Never fails to upset and frustrates me.

I bought this a couple of months ago and barely able to use it, so upset, I keep getting an error C4. Its brand new, I've changed the bobbin multiple times and bought new thread. The thread keeps gathering under the material causing the machine to stop and the needle to break
1 reply from Customer Care team - 5 years ago
We're so sorry that you're experiencing this issue with your machine. Let's see if we can help! The C4 message means that the machine is locked up due to thread tangling with the bobbin case or that the bobbin rotation interrupted forcibly. Thread looping on the underside of the fabric is an indication that the upper thread is not correctly threaded. This can happen when the upper thread is not correctly placed in the tension mechanism and has not been threaded through the take up lever. So, let's try this: Turn off your machine and double check that there are no jammed threads in the bobbin area. Then, turn your machine back on and rethread the top thread on your machine, making sure to first raise the presser foot lifter before starting to thread so that the thread can be properly seated in the tension mechanism and take up lever. (See Page 13 of your manual, I have included the URL below). To know if you have rethreaded the machine correctly, try this simple test: • Raise the presser foot lifter and thread the top of the machine. • Thread the needle, but don’t put the thread under the presser foot yet. As you pull the upper thread to the left, it should pull freely. • Put the presser foot lifter down. As you pull the upper thread to the left, you should feel resistance. This means you are threaded correctly. • Put the thread under the presser foot, and then draw up the bobbin thread. Slip both thread tails under the presser foot towards the back. Lower presser foot and begin sewing. Your manual can be found here: https://res.cloudinary.com/singer-sewing/image/upload/v1572777496/Singer-Website-Library/Manuals/Products_manuals/5560__EngSpaFre_0_ytwa9w.pdf

The fact that I'm this site means that something went wrong with this sewing machine. I have been reading some of the reviews and they are spot on. My lovely Mother-in-Law gave this machine to me as a birthday present. I owned an expensive Singer tbut gave it to my daughter so she could learn how to sew; what a mistake! Now I'm stuck with this machine that by all accounts should be easy to operate but it is not; lots of things go wrong. The tension is constantly needing adjustment, there is no-stitch guide in the manual that's odd, and the needle broke in mid stitch while sewing on a cotton blend due to the tension deciding to quit on me during mid-stitch. Then half the needle got stuck in the bobbin, yes bobbin; my husband had to take the machine apart to get the broken piece out. What!! I guess you get what you pay for and mine was a gift. Not telling my Mother-in-Law but am purchasing something more substantial :)

So disappointed in this machine. I had my old machine for over 35 years and thought I would buy this as an upgrade. I know it wasn't as expensive as most these days but it should at least sew . I had to use a little bit of fabric to get started as it would tangle and jam up the machine. It didnt always stop sewing when I took my foot off the pedal. The back stitch had a mind of it's own. Always stops in up position so had to turn the very stiff wheel to turn a sharp corner. The electrical cord is very short and the pedal cord is too. The pedal is flimsy and will not stay in position. The machine vibrates when sewing a little faster than slow. And then after only two months the pedal won't work. So I tried to find one but other than somewhere in China they are nowhere to be found.so I asked to borrow my daughters who has the same one but after only 6 months hers will not work either and cant find one . The store where I purchased it is out of stock and tell me its discontinued, but here it is back in stock. So I got a store credit...not too happy at all . That's my rant ...

https://www.singer.com/Fashion-Mate-5560-Sewing-Machine I bought said above sewing machine and I only could use it a few times. Singer Fashion Mate 5560 I didn't even have it a week and the door to the bottom thread dept broke. The long plastic pole where the spool of thread goes to thread the machine fell off I had to literally tape it to the machine. The back button gets stuck. It has tons of issues keeping thread going once it starts to sew. It gets jammed too easily when nothing seems to be jamming it. I've had nothing but issues from day one since I purchased it. I was wondering if there's a recall on this sewing machine as it has multiple manufacturering issues. Not recommend
