This machine sews like a dream, loaded with all the bells and whistles you could possibly need or want--all at an affordable price, too. Lots of bang for your buck! Plus it's purple! Thick fabrics including denim are sewn like butter. Have been sewing on my machine for several months now and have not experienced any birds nests or jamming. Many machines eat fabric at the beginning of a seam, not this baby. Singer has finally proven to the sewing world that they are still a leader in sewing machine manufacturing.

I have had this machine for a few years now. Have never had any problems at all with it. I would buy it again in a heartbreak.

Automatic cutting system does not work at all.

Automatic cutting system in the 9985 and the latest 9960 does not work at all. It's a known big flaw on this machines. Unfortunately after I bought it, I came to know about this issue. The dealerships know about it and still they keep on selling it. The machine is unworkable, it keeps on jamming no matter what type of fabrics you try with.
Warranty does no good if the machine is defective

This machine is an absolute piece of garbage. After continuous tension issues, broken plastic in the upper thread chamber causing it to get stuck, continuously not cutting, I sent the machine to a service center. The center LOST my machine for two months and when it was finally found they returned it to me and the knife fell out of the cutter, the tension is still messed up, will not sew any zig zag stitches at all and breaks after 5 inches of any other stitch. An absolute waste of money, singer is the WORST brand out there.

Reoccurring tension issues

I purchased this machine about 3 months ago and have had continual tension issues with the machine. The top thread constantly gets stuck and which causes an inbalance which then causes the bobbin to gather an extreme amount of thread on the bottom half of the stitch. This has only gotten worse in the three months and now I am unable to use the machine for more than two full stitches before I need to retread the machine entirely to fix the problem. When opening the top cover of the machine you can see the thread tangles around the mechanism which causes it to get stuck. There is also a small nick in the plastic that the thread gets stuck in while threading which also causes this problem.

Sews great on hair-on cowhide leather!

This is a great machine! Once I had it threaded correctly and used an OEM bobbin, it was smooth sewing on 2mm thick leather, doubled - granted leather can be inconsistent in thickness and toughness at various places, where it has hung up a few times, but for the most part, works great on hair on leather cowhide doubled. I recommend!

I bought this machine two years ago and only used it lightly for a couple of months before it completely broke. it sounded as if pieces were banging around and the thread jammed in knots. Because it was under warranty, Singer instructed me to send it to Atlanta to their repair shop. They kept it over two months and when it returned it did not sew properly. I only used it periodically and now it is not sewing again. Was a total waste of money. I bought this machine because I had the Quantum purchased 30years ago. I am still using that machine. Will never buy a Singer again.

Love this machine!! Now my favorite. Thread cutter is extra quite. Love the design of bobbin casing. So nice not to have to pull thread up. I am very partial to Singers for their easy of use and durability.

This is a fantastic machine for garment sewing and crafts. The stitch quality is good, and the machine is very easy to use. I sew a lot of doll clothes, and it is fantastic for that purpose. It sews knits fabulously. I do not use this machine for anything heavier than medium weight fabric.

I received this machine 3 weeks ago, although I was concerned with the lack of outer shipping box it arrived in good condition. I was considering the QS9960 but the touchscreen sold me on the QS9985. I had been using a Commercial Grade Singer, and moving from that to the QS9985 is like going from a Kia Rio to a Cadillac Escalade! So far it is smooth and quiet. The stitches are even and uniform, the thread cutter and needle threader work when the machine is threaded correctly, not so much when it is not. So far I have made a few masks, a pair of jeans, a couple of t-shirts without any issues. It reminds me of when my Singer Touchtronic 2000 was new, except quieter. I hope this is the last sewing machine I will own. I haven't been so excited to sew in years. The only thing I could do without is the pink face plates, and for the price and quality of the machine, it should have come with a case, not a plastic dust cover.
Never fails to amaze!

After looking at this machine for 2 years, my 30 plus year old Singer stopped working requiring me to find a replacement. I do a lot of charity sewing and some for the Grandkids. I love the idea of being able to cut the threads without ever picking up my scissors. The ease of replacing the bobbin and the needle threader. Have been trying out all the presser feet and seeing what I have been missing. I have already talked this machine up to anyone who asked/ didn't ask. The only issues are the ones I created.

I got a 9985 so I could retire my 1960's era straight stitch only machine. I am extremely impressed with the 9985's touch screen and embroidery style stitches. The overlocking stitches are a big improvement over my prior machine. I originally planned on getting a 9960 with the buttons, but they were out of stock due to COVID. I'm glad I went for the 9985 upgrade. My family's COVID masks look great. Our holiday costumes and home decor will get a big step up.

If you’re not to familiar with newer machines, it can be a little challenging at time. The end results are worth it in the end. I would have given it 5 stars if the manual had a bit more info on working some things and or if you could find more online and video references for this particular machine. They have more info on other models but I’m still happy with my purchase.

The machine was a gift and I don't have a receipt. Customer service is no help. The floor has cracked in two pieces. I have given them all the information they asked for but I don't have a receipt. I sent in the warranty on the machine when I got it why won't they abide by it. Will not buy another one.
They don't make them like they used to!

This machine is a nightmare. The fabric gets stuck under the needle if you begin at the end of the fabric. It has to be cut out! The automatic button hole maker is a disaster. I will have to make the button holes by hand. As soon as the quarantine is over I will drive the 1 hour with my 35 year old workhorse touch-tronic 2001 to hopefully have the bobbin case replaced or repaired. this machine has made me cry!!! One day I actually punched it.
