SOG® Compact Camp Axe with Blade Cover in Silver

I've had this cool axe for a couple years. It can handle most anything medium duty, it's that perfect grip and knowing the quality is going to be there. Great around the house for quick tasks!

I got this as a gift and nI love it. Well made and well balanced. This is a very well made hawk.

It is light and small and is useful if you don't expect to do what a larger axe might. I use it to split pre-split logs into small pieces using a hand sledge. One of the anchor screws for the head came off and they were good about the warranty, great customer service.

Sheath is underwhelming and doesn’t fit very well. Axe is exceptionally sharp, and seems tough. Head width not wide enough to easily split logs, and not heavy enough to properly drive into wood, but can be driven by a rock or other log.

I bought this about a month ago and it has helped me cut a lot of wood and it is still pretty sharp

Smallish axe but sturdy & very sharp and very durable. Remember it is a "Camp Axe", not close to a full size axe.

Good quality, and good price, although I wish it was a bit larger like a standard hatchet. Definitely shouldn’t be called an axe.

Pretty impressed with the light nature and COG near the head. I mainly use it for ripping fatwood and kindling and it has a nice feel. Too early to tell how long/well it holds its edge, but it is working nicely on the fresh Ash. I keep going back and forth on the sheath, and if your hands are numb it is hard to work. The only feature I still dislike is how the handle protrudes from the body of the head, which sometimes causes the axe to hang up going into the wood. All said, I do plan to make this part of my hunting and camping packing due to an all around good feel and super light weight.

I was given one of these in exchange for a review. I was impressed when the axe arrived. The axe is relatively compact and lightweight, arriving sharp and ready for use. I was worried that the weight of the axe would inhibit the usage but when I tried it, I was surprised at how well balanced it feels in the hand and there’s enough weight in the head to make a good chop when swinging it. The sheath that comes with the axe looks really smart but can be fiddly - it may prove difficult to take on and off with cold fingers! The back face of the axe is shaped nicely to make a hammer head, although it is smaller than it could be (perhaps to aid with that weight distribution). For simple tasks, like stripping branches off trunks and splitting kindling I’ve found this does the trick. Splitting larger logs with this is a challenge but not impossible. Overall, I’ve found I’ve reached for this little axe in preference to my larger axe. Admittedly my larger axe of the cheap garden variety, so I haven’t compared it to similar bushcraft axes.

I have purchased several knives from SOG and I have always been impressed with their craftmanship and reliability

love the axe head and blade and even the handle too. The problem is after heavy use and the part thats bolted to the handle becomes a little loose. Otherwise good hatchet if you don't throw it at all.

Perfect size and weight for backpacking, camping, and bushcrafting. holds an edge great and maintains one easily. Two negative remarks. The sheath fell apart after my first use and after rigging it up the strap snapped after 3 uses. Also light work on 4-6 inch branches and logs the head is loose and wiggles. This should stand up to that light of work. Less than 4 inch branches it’s great on

This has a nice factory edge, nice hammer head comes in handy it's light weight and compact. I haven't had much time to be in the woods a lot with it, but from what I have needed it for it has proven to be quality and a great addition to my gear.

Great lightweight, excellent ergonomic shaped handle. Blade great for preparing kindling. Works well when handling material several inches at a time. Not necessary to swing this tool like an axe. Not designed for heavy work of tackling cutting down trees or large diameter logs. Get a full size axe for that kind of work. Easily my favorite small axe/hatchet ever. Highly recommend. Easy to sharpen.

Bought this for emergencies, and other uses. With it's great quality I may be able to pass it along to my grandson for his Boy Scout trips later.
