This is my first “serious” camera and for an amateur photographer it’s perfectly matches me current skill set. The best part I think is how light and portable it is. Also, I can get pretty pro-grade pictures after tweaking in-camera settings. One point though that I have struggled with is the focus settings which may be entirely due to me not fully grasping but the focus point jumps and down and has a very small focus area which can render an entire image not sharp as it has focused on a tiny part of the whole picture.

Hi Reggie34, Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to know that you're enjoying the camera's design and specifications. Regarding the focus area, the following link explains how to set it to match your subject: https://cutt.ly/3w31jwG3 You can set whether to switch the [Focus Area] and the position of the focusing frame according to the orientation of the camera, as described here: https://cutt.ly/Xw31jL7S, there are also multiple other settings that you can find on the Help Guide. Better focus plus 'In Body Image Stabilisation'

Having previously owned an ILCE-(A)6300 for a few years I was reasonably familiar with the somewhat awkward menu system that has had a bit of a refresh on the A6600 but overall there isn't much of an improvement and the camera itself other than its main/key features which are the faster and more accurate auto focus, larger battery that seems to go on and on (....and on and on!) for ages compared to the smaller battery in the A6300. Also, because the battery is physically bigger, so is the grip which is much more comfortable in the hand. This newer camera also has the in body stabilisation which helps with both stills and video ....but is far from perfect and could be better! The auto focus can now be switched between human and animal eye focus which is good for animal photography which I rarely do but the option is now there for those that do. If there is a downside to this camera it would be the price compared to other makes with a similar spec but as I'm already invested in the system with a few Sony lenses plus a lot of third party alternatives, this camera is good for me plus it is a lot cheaper than a full frame Sony camera with lenses with similar specs.

Having only been using this camera for a couple of weeks now it’s heavier over my old a6000 which was a great little camera, this one is good but not great, the menu is still old and clunky, and so many options inside other options it’s been a challenge to understand this camera and still is a challenge to navigate the menus, overall the picture quality is good, haven’t managed to try the video out yet.

Bought the a6600 recently; my first Sony & first Mirrorless. Fantastic little camera & exactly what I needed. Battery life is good so far. Although I haven’t used it too much so far the one gripe I do have is the Sony menu system seems quite complicated to navigate and use

I’ve used Sony since 2001, this is my fifth Sony camera and I’ve just upgraded from an A77 that I’ve owned nine years. Wow the advancement is amazing, I’ve only took a few sample shots to test it out but so far I am blown away with it’s capabilities

I bought this a few weeks ago so am still learning all the menus etc but already really impressed. Great manual functionality but also a very capable auto function which makes it a highly capable camera both as point and shoot as well as more professional photo/video.
Good camera but some firmware issues

The camera produces very good results and is extremely light and small. However th esmall size does mean that the range of controls is more limited than on a full size DSLR and those controls are set closer together. The sensor is extremely good and noise levels are contained up to relatively high ISO's. A major issue is the poor algorithm that is used to select a combination of aperure and shutter speed in the P setting. That renders the P setting almost unusable and I have found that best results are obtained by using the Manual mode, setting the aperure and shiutter speed appropriate to the occasion and using Auto ISO to adjust the resulting image. Unfortunately this leads to two additional defects in the firmware. As on many DSLR's aperture is adjusted using the control on top of the camera and shutter speed by a rotary dial on the camera back. While the top control is very positive and easy to use once its position is learned the same canot be said for teh rotary control on the back of the camera. That control not only rotates but can also be depressed in 4 directions and it is far too easy to depress it while adjusting the shutter speed and to accidentally move, for example, from auto ISO to a fixed ISO value. To undo this accidental change can be time consuming. Such accidental errors could be so easily avoided if the firmware required any of the four "corners" of the dial to be held for, say half a second, before the rotary dial assumed its other function. The second firware defect is that, when the exposure settings are being changed in manual mode with Auto ISO the displayed ISO selected by the camera is replaced by "AUTO" instaed of changing as, say, the Shutter speed is changed. The new ISO only appears when the shutter is half pressed. Thi sis in stark contrast to my Canon 7D Mk2 where the apropriate ISO remains live and changes in response to user changes in Aperture or Shutter speed. Both these defects lead to loss of time in selecting appropriate settings which can be the difference between taking and missing a good photograph. Because of that I have reduced my rating to only 3 stars.

Bought the 6600 to replace an old 6000. As a professional who carried heavy camera bags for decades, I needed something small but high quality for a trip to Italy. The images are so very crisp! The big surprise for me was the low light performance. Shooting in a church in Florence at ISO 3200 gave me beautiful images with almost no noise and were wonderfully sharp when viewed at 100%. I use the Zeiss 16 - 70 f4 lens.
Great Landscapes!
