Added USB 3.0 To My 13-Year-Old PC!

I bought to add USB 3.0 to my old Gateway LX6810-01 which I bought new in 2009 and still use as a primary machine. It is stock except for an upgraded Corsair 750W power supply and Sandisk 1 TB SSD. That leaves it with an available PCI slot, which this card fit. However, the case interfered ever so slightly with the USB ports but with some persistence, I was able to plug a USB cable into each port. Also, I received Error Code 31 in Device Manager which meant the drivers were loaded but due to the enabled Windows 10 Fast Startup, it took me some time and internet searching to find out I just needed to perform a restart to make it work. That did the trick. It otherwise works beautifully and I was able to take full advantage of the new 802.11ax standard with a just-released USB Wi-Fi 6 adapter and my ISP's Wi-Fi 6 gateway.
Does not work with VISTA!

I bought this card two weeks ago to use with a P4 TITAN motherboard which has only PCI cards available and Windows VISTA operating system. Here is my experience: 1. The CD that came with the card does not run automatically to install the drivers 2. I had to go intuitively through various folders in the CD to manage finally to install “some” driver. 3. The card did not work with the VISTA giving an error 10 (the device cannot start) 4. I searched the StarTech site to see that there was another driver from Renessas, as well a Hardware Upgrade zip file. 5. I downloaded both and I had to run the hardware upgrade from the DOS environment and I installed the new driver. Bottom line, still the card DOES NOT WORK WITH VISTA.

Bought this to update my NAS using the remaining PCI slot in my i7 Sandy Bridge, the first unit failed and was replaced - the replacement unit was visible in Device Manager but would not connect to a mouse or to memory; it also reported a MS Windows 20.019041.662 driver dated 11/16/2020 even after loading the latest Renesas setup . I shall try plan B to use an older PC that has a spare and accessible PCIe slot. It's disappointing because I've had great performance from other StarTech Products Tech support was excellent
No Linux drivers and does not work in Ubuntu

The driver disc which came in the box only has Windows drivers on it. When I booted up Ubuntu 16.04 with this card installed, Ubuntu does not find the card, nor is it able to automatically install drivers. On the other hand, PCI Express USB 3.0 cards based on the same Renesas NEC D720201 chipset work automatically. The issue is probably related to the onboard PCIe-to-PCI bridge chip on this card. Startech should provide a driver or other instructions to get this item working with Linux. This card worked fine on my Windows XP installation on the same computer, but I need it to work in both operating systems. I tried both the SATA and mini molex connector for power, but it still didn't function in my Ubuntu 16.04 LTS system. This item is way expensive for not supporting Linux. Ubuntu has become rather popular in the last 10 years and it would be nice for more expansion card manufacturers to get on board with more than just Windows support. As a side note, it would be better if the USB ports were rotated 90 degrees. It is a little tricky to plug the USB cable in with the chassis slot being as narrow as it is.

I ordered this card (from Amazon), to upgrade an older computer to USB 3.0 devices. I run Windows XP SP3 that only have USB 2.0 ports (6). The driver soft wear disk had the ASMUSB Host_V116220WHQL Driver. It wouldn't install. I went to Startech.com site, and found the driver Renesas_UPD720201_2 USB 3.0 Controller Card. That driver installed and the ports are working like they should. Just passing on this tip to anyone else who orders this card and has the same problem.
Exactly as advertised

Worked perfectly in a Gigabyte F2A68HM-H motherboard running Windows 10 64. I needed a USB 3.x card that fit a PCI slot. The motherboard has a PCIe slot but the dual slot graphics card blocked its use. Wish: Wish the board had an internal USB connector to connect an internal USB connector in my case.
Does work!

This hardware works perfectly but I should have known that having those ports vertically instead of horizontally, would be a pain. Due to the space on the slot, you may not be able or to force the male USB into it which you need to be careful. Besides that, it works perfectly with the SATA Power at 3.0 speed
