I’m sure most of us have at some point used a public USB power socket to charge our devices. Whether its in the library, café, Airport, hotel room, conference centre or even a colleagues laptop. All of these can put your device at risk from unauthorised data access via the cable, so this device is essential for protecting against this. For instance, the USB power socket in your hotel room might look like just a power outlet and work, but who’s to say someone hasn’t removed the socket and installed a piggy-back device on the data pins ready to compromise the next person to plug in a USB device. Unless you always use your own PSU, you need to use one of these adapters. It allows power to pass, whilst physically isolating the data pins, ensuring no physical connection between the outlet and your device. I use this with my iPhone, and its great at stopping iTunes automatically opening up on my MacBook when I plug the phone in to charge. If you need the data connection to sync, just connect the cable directly. For the price, this is an essential bit of travel kit.
