My 5 year old learned how to play in less than a week! The book teaches them piece by piece, explaining how they can move on the board. There are exercises at the end of each chapter that make sure they understand the concept before building on it in the next chapter. All using a clever story that's easy to understand. Now my kid loves to play and has a great understanding of the game!
The BEST for learning how to play!

My daughter really wanted to learn chess and I knew absolutely nothing about it. But this set and book has helped us both tremendously with learning how each piece moves and giving us great little stories to remind us how they all move and strategies and mini games. My 7 year old loves it and my 4 year old is picking up on it as well!! I’ve been highly recommending it to everyone I know!

Just bought this for my 4 year old (just turned 4) and the hardest part is getting him to slow down. He gets to have story time then play and he wants to move onto the next section so he can see what he gets to learn next. It's recommended kids learning play a chapter for a week before moving on so the concept is understood better but we've been playing a lot the short time we've had it.
Soooo great!

I bought this for the 5 year old I nanny and we have been having so much fun reading and learning along with her 8 year old brother. The story is fun and has great ways of getting the littles to remember how each piece moves. We’re looking to move on to the 2nd book super soon!
Love it. Teacher/Mom Approved

I gave this to my kids for Christmas. It is great! My kids are 5 and 7. My older child prefers the traditional chess that’s included, but my 5 year daughter really likes the mini games and storybook that goes with. I’m not going to lie, it’s teaching this 38 year old momma how to play too lol. Only suggestion is maybe have an index in the back with the visuals on how the pieces move. I had to keep flipping through pages in story. Great overall with lots of creativity:)

This game was the perfect way for my children and myself to learn the game of chess without the stress! I have always wanted to learn and with the help of fun stories and easy to put together game pieces, we were playing mini games and understanding the rules. My children are ages 9, 10, and 12 and they all had fun with it. I also have a 3 and 5 year old that I plan to play with next! I would recommend this game for children as well as adults.

I love how engaging this game was for my kids, they loved the stories and colorful characters. All of my kids have loved learning the movements of the chess pieces and they don't even know it. My 8yo espey begs me to play the game with her every day. Highly recommend if you wish to teach your kids how to play chess and want to make it fun.

Story Time Chess teaches the mechanics of chess through silly stories and simple “minigames.” It has been fun to go through with my 4-year-old, and he is eager to read and play any chance we get. (He gets especially excited about moving on to a new story and adding the new pieces and characters to the board.) The stories are quite amusing, and the minigames reinforce the chess education tucked into the stories in a fun and silly way. If your little one likes games and silliness, I’d recommend this innovative product! 😊 I was kindly gifted this product in exchange for an honest review.

I got this game for my 8-year-old son, so that we could play together. My son read the whole Story Time Chess storybook as soon as he got it. The next day we played a game, and when I asked him to remind me how pawns move, he told me a story from the book and showed it to me. The stories and characters are very catchy, and the mini-games are good practice. I am a beginner and have had a bit of trouble remembering the traditional way, and I find this way of learning clicks better with me. My son already knew the names of the pieces and how they move, as well as how to set up the board using the advanced side, but he enjoyed the fun stories and they've stuck with him. I think it has helped him look at the game from a fresh perspective. He has already asked for Level 2, which includes skills that he has been learning and needs more practice with. I like that there is even a Level 3 to further advance his skills. Note: I received this product for free in exchange for my review. Opinions are my own.
