Important Advice for ALL Moms

Though Stretched Too Thin is marketed toward working moms, as a work-from-home homeschooling mom I also found it to be indispensably valuable at this time in my life. Life just gets busier and busier, especially as kids get older and everyone is going in a different direction. Why is it always us moms who take on all the guilt? I think it is because we are used to putting everyone else first and feeling responsible for the overall environment of our homes. And the busier our families get, the more things pile up, and we truly do begin to feel stretched to the breaking point. The worst part isn't the endless to do list--it's the feelings of guilt, failure, and not doing enough that are the most difficult. Jessica Turner's book is truly a source of encouragent, but it goes beyond that with practical steps and ideas. Not all of Jessica's tips are for everyone. However, no matter what your situation is, there are solutions for many of those things that stretch us too thin. It made me feel like someone really "gets" it to read Jessica's chapters on self care, creating the home you love, discovering your feelings, and cultivating your marriage. Among other topics Jessica discusses, these really gave me the inspiration I needed to understand some things that are causing me more stress than necessary. Stretched Too Thin is exactly what I needed, and is for anyone who, like me, wants to be freed from the guilt of letting some things go, while realizing that you can be a working mom and still have a striving family life. As part of Jessica's launch team, I was able to read an advance copy of this book. I am recommending it to all of my mom friends.
So good I got it twice :)

When "Stretched Too Thin" first came out, I snagged a hardcover copy. I loved "The Fringe Hours" and knew this would not disappoint. So when I had the opportunity to be part of the paperback launch team, I jumped! As a teacher and a coach, a wife and a mom, sometimes I just feel stretched too thin trying to do it all! This book is an incredible reminder that we are not alone and that there ARE things we can do about it! <3 So thankful for Jessica's way with words as her message spoke right to my heart. I've also also purchased a copy to gift to a friend, because this message needs to be shared!

I was given a copy of the paperback by the publisher prior to the paperback release date. I’ve followed Jessica for several years on social media. I’ve always enjoyed her sensible approach to life. This book gives some very practical ways to let go of the guilt we all carry when we feel like we are never good enough. My kids are adults now & as a single mom for 10 years I certainly struggled with guilt & feelings of inadequacy. Jessica’s reminder to be intentional in all areas helps me reign in negative feelings. I love reading about her kid’s birthday parties & the attention to detail she has but I have never been that person. The beauty of the world is we are all good at something, but we can’t all be good at everything.
This book was a quick read. It has some really great ideas for learning balance & letting go of the guilt.

If anyone was qualified to write this book, it is the author, Jessica Turner.
On top of a full-time marketing job, she is a writer, blogger, and mother to 3 small children. She shares throughout the book how she doesn't do it all seamlessly and that is what makes the book so beautiful.
But Jessica does not only rely on her personal experience of being "Stretched Too Thin". She interviewed hundreds of women as well as experts in various fields to validate the feeling that no working mom is alone in feeling the day-to-day struggle of having it all. The best part? "Stretched Too Thin" releases us from believing we need to do it all perfectly while sacrificing our own sanity. (Because, spoiler alert: we don't!)
I love that this book not only gives practical advice on ways to manage topics such as friendships, marriage, getting organized, etc and how every positive change can impact your overall happiness in the workplace and the home.
The chapter on self-care will hit home for a lot of women- it did for me. It discussed the stress we put on ourselves to do everything for everyone else but neglect our own well being in the process. How neglecting self-care not only hurts your family and work but most of all, you. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. There are countless ways to achieve self-care and Jessica offers ways to incorporate it back into your life.
One of my favorite parts of the book was a personal snippet Jessica shared about feeling the pressure to bring homemade goods to a school bake fair- only to show up and find out that most of the people had purchased the baked goods at the store (YES! This was me last year! Killed myself baking homemade cookies to see endless containers of store-bought items at the bake sale)
We do not need to be Pinterest Perfect- that is not a reality to reach for.
I highly recommend this book to any working mom. The overall message of creating a life where you are thriving at work and at home, rather than just surviving, is one every working mom should live by. This book gives you tangible tools to learn how to do just that.
Thank you to the publisher for an advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

If you have ever said there is too much to do and only one of me, than this book is for you. If you’ve ever felt like there aren’t enough hours in the day, than this book is for you. If you ever feel like you just can’t do or be everything that is required of you, than this book is for you.
This book is filled with practical ways to help manage the busy life that is required of being a mom, and all that can entail.
So many times when we don’t do things well, we feel overwhelmed with that mommy guilt gut feeling, but Jessica helps with quick and easy ways to simplify parts of your life and make your time count.
Thankful for Jessica’s words and practical tips that can help any mom who is just looking for the space to breathe and ways to help calm what feels like the chaos of our lives.
I did get to read an early copy of this book so I could share my thoughts and feelings!
Useful Resource for Working Mamas

"Stretched Too Thin" is a helpful resource for working moms who struggle to keep all the plates spinning in their lives. Jessica Turner has been there--she's a mom in the trenches who offers another way to deal with the constant struggle--prioritizing, delegating and accepting "just enough" some days.
There are worksheets at the end of each chapter that help you process through what you've just read and apply her suggestions to your unique situation. I found there was much good food for thought and the book is laid out in a way that no mom should feel judged. It reads like a helpful conversation with someone who understands the constant demands on a working mom's time.
Jessica writes in a way that is both intelligent and honest, along with speaking some hard truths with grace and care. She has interviewed many other working moms, authors and speakers to mine a wealth of knowledge that she puts to good use in the book.
This would be a great gift for a working mom who is trying to be "all things to all people,"
while working on her career, keeping a home, having a thriving marriage, etc. That way of thinking leads to more bad than good, and "Stretched Too Thin" not only explains the why, but shows the how to escape this mindset. I enjoyed Jessica's perspective and will be passing a copy of this book on to some Mamas I feel could benefit from it. I received an advanced reader copy from Revell and chose to review. All opinions are my own.

“I love my family. I do great work. I’m thriving.”
How often is that your answer when asked how things are going? If you’re anything like me, the answer is usually more along the lines of “Well I’ve been REALLY busy, but I’m sure life will slow down eventually!”
In this book, Jessica offers stories and experiences of working mom’s across the country, along with practical tips to help you reprioritize to focus on what matters most to you while still getting the things that NEED to get done completed.
There’s no crazy magic formula or one-size-fits-all plan to make you a superhero who can do it all. Instead, Jessica has a way of helping your brain and heart reach an agreement on what matters most to you, in a way only a dear friend could do.
This book IS directed to working moms. While I am not a mom yet, reading this book has still been useful in managing my mental load and learning how to THRIVE instead of just survive.
(I received a copy of this book from the publisher, but the review is 100% my own!)

This book is an amazing resource. So practical. Every chapter ends with reflection questions and spaces for the answers. It’s written by a mom of three in the trenches with her own struggles and research from surveying other working moms. I found it practical. It covers all the key areas from mindset to choices and relationships. I think it would help any working or non working moms who feel stretched too thin make some changes and improve their situation. I wish it had shared a bit more of a biblical framework. But while written by a christian author, it is NOT published as a christian book- and it is mislabeled on amazon and other places. So it's not the premise of the book, and the content did fit a mom who is a believer and encourage spiritual priorities like prayer, reading, journaling, church attendance. Just not as clearly as it would have if it were to be a book for christians. It's an easy, helpful read that I recommend.

Stretched Too Thin is such a great reminder that we aren’t designed to do it all, and especially by ourselves. We have to build a trustworthy, loving community—spouse, family, close girlfriends, coworkers—that work cohesively to create a life where we can all thrive.
Jessica Turner uses personal stories, research and implements surveys and tools to practically give the reader ideas to stop burning the candle at both ends.
I’ve read through the book twice—first as an overview, then utilized the tools and charts she included to find where I can make changes.
I only work part time in retail, but as a wife, mom of 5 and serving in ministry, it’s still so easy to be stretched in every direction. I can’t utilize every suggestion Jessica makes, but it made me think of what I could do!
I received a copy from the publisher, but was not obligated to write a positive review.

Jessica N. Turner has written another relevant and powerful book for working moms or really anyone who is seeking a balance between work, home, hobbies, and volunteering, etc... She provides insight, research, quotes from other moms that are experiencing all of the layers of guilt, stress, worry, shame, and exhaustion that many of us face each week! I found myself writing in the margins, highlighting meaningful take-aways and connections I was finding throughout the chapters. She prompts you to participate by writing down your reflection list, your goals, and more. It is such a guiding force in helping you make small changes to see the light and positivity that comes from lessening things that are stretching you as a working mom! I received the new paperback book as an advanced copy to review. All of my opinions are my own. I’m so glad I was able to read this before my school year starts as I am a busy mom and teacher.

In "Stretched Too Thin," the author provides encouragement and motivation to working moms who feel overwhelmed by the demands of life. Each chapter looks at the different aspects (kids, marriage, friends, self-care, etc) that moms have to balance each day. The author provides examples from her own life, as well as reassurance and suggestions for ways to handle it all (which, she reminds us, sometimes means not handling something ourselves). She does not pretend that this book is a solution for being able to "do it all." She is very real and honest, and encourages moms to set realistic expectations about how much we can do with the schedule and resources we have. I found it to be very validating. Each chapter concludes with questions to help the reader personally apply the material they just read. These reflections allow the reader to process the information and set goals in her own life. I loved this practical application aspect.
While the book was written for working moms, I would also suggest it to moms returning (or considering a return) to the workforce. It covers areas that someone may not consider when mentally preparing for that transition.
I received an advance reader copy from the publisher.

I was able to participate in the launch team for Stretched Too Thin by Jessica N. Turner. I listened to it on audiobook downloaded on Christian Audio app on my phone and was encouraged by her honesty and the constant theme giving moms permission to be their genuine self while recognizing ways to change schedules to avoid burn out and be happier. The author herself narrated the audiobook version. She is adorable and has small comments that aren't in the print book but really make it feel like a conversation with a girlfriend.
Each person's strengths, talents, abilities, and motivations as well as family dynamics and lifestyles are going to be different, and that is okay! It isn't about keeping up with the Joneses or ways to cram more unnecessary obligations. By focusing on what is individually important and tracking where/what you spend time doing simple changes can have a drastic impact.
I was a single mom both working and going to college when I first had children. I got married 11 years ago and was able to be a stay-at-home mom until our youngest went to Kindergarten then I re-entered the workforce starting off part time and eventually full time. I am super guilty of comparing our house, kids, stuff with others who seem to be so much more put together. Its easy to get stressed out while juggling everyone's carpool needs, appointments, practices, while maintaining the house and family needs. I still feel guilty sometimes because I love my job, but something has to give. Often times that means self-care or my marriage. I have personally felt stretched too thin often since being a mother. Jessica offers wonderful advice to all women, despite what your life looks like and reminds me what is most important, and its not trying to be Pinterest Perfect.

“Thriving as a working mom involves cultivating rich friendships and making time for community that supports you and is there when you need it.”
Jessica Turner writes from her experience being a wife & mom of three with a full time job. I like the questions & encouragement to journal & process what we read at the end of each chapter.
It becomes a bit annoying the amount of times she writes throughout the book “Stretched Too Thin” (at least once in every single chapter).
Some quotes I liked/ agreed with:
“You’re happiness at work directly affects your happiness at home.”
“I’ve learned that my house is never going to be like the ones in magazines, and instead of feeling shame, I am embracing the truth that my house doesn’t have to be perfect for me to feel content in it.”
I don't think I've ever filled my plate as full as Jessica has, so some of the stress and examples she gives, I don't fully understand. Overall, it's a good book for working moms.
Receiving an advanced copy of this book was a privilege. I appreciate the opportunity to review and share my thoughts with others.

I'm a working mom to two young kids, and I find the work-life balance very difficult to maintain. (Add in friends or hobbies, and I don't even know what to do with myself.) I love this book. Jessica Turner shares stories that all moms can relate to and provides tips to help overcome the guilt of doing something other than being a mother. There are prompts/worksheets at the end of some of the chapters that I really want to get into this week, but I also found the audio book is excellent to listen on my drive to and from work. I loved the parts of her book where she explores hobbies and friendships - so many of us push those to the back burner when we prioritize our families. I highly recommend this for any person who is striving to achieve balance and will be gifting it to friends I think could benefit from it.

I was anxious to read “Stretched Too Thin” by Jessica N. Turner. I remember how stressed I was to be raising teenagers and working at a job that was in itself stressful. And so, I was very interested in this book. It is curious to me that the role of the wife and mother does not dimish just because the wife/mother works. For the most husbands and fathers the idea that they should be partners not only in marriage but in cleaning, cooking, laundry, childcare and on and on. It always falls to the mother to manage the household and the kids.
I found that this little book gives so many ideas and solutions for the guilt that goes along with motherhood and working. There is usually no time for the mom to spend on just herself, while the husband seems to be able to meet with his friends with no guilt about what is not being done at home while he is out.
I think that the solutions to many of these problems were dealt with in a good way by Ms. Turner. Her suggestions to review her priorities and address those things which are making her life so stressful are very good and provide an outlet for those guilty feelings which dog her every day.
I will be giving this book to my daughter, whose life I see on every page of this book. As a teacher, mom, wife, and with all the other hats she wears, I can see her becoming more and more stressed and letting life take hold of her instead of the other way around.
As one of the Revell Reads Blog Tour Reviewer, I received a print copy of this book to read and review. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

If you a working mom, read this book. If you are a mom, read this book. If you are a woman, READ THIS BOOK!
I feel like we are still living in a society that makes women think they need to do it all and do it all perfectly. Call it Pinterest perfect. We often feel the need to stretch ourselves into doing more than we are able to and not in a good growth way, but in a detriment to our health and well being way. Jessica N. Turner talks through her life and what she has done to give up or hand off the things that are not essential for her to do. This is her story but through a survey she conducted she brings the lives of so many together to offer great advice and companionship of living.
I enjoyed the tangible advice and the addition of questions to help me work through my unique situation to find what works best for me and my family.
