About the Book
A decade after leaving his family's bush pilot operation to become a Pararescue Jumper, Dodge Kingston is back home in Alaska. He hadn't counted on meeting up again with Echo, a girl with a spirit as free as the sky. When she goes missing, he hopes all her skills will keep her safe until he can reach her--and that she'll accept his help when he does.Book Synopsis
Coming home was never the planAfter a terrible family fight, pilot Dodge Kingston left home to join the Air Force. A decade later, he's headed back to the destiny that awaits him as heir to Sky King Ranch. But that's not all that's waiting for him at home.
Echo Yazzie is a true Alaskan woman--a homesteader, dogsledder, and research guide for the DNR. After her childhood best friend and former flame, Dodge, fled Denali, she settled into life on the Alaskan range. She's made her peace with being left behind--by her mother and by Dodge. And she's strong enough to live without them.
When one of Echo's fellow researchers goes missing, Echo sets out to find her, despite a blizzard, a rogue grizzly haunting the woods, and the biting cold. What she doesn't know is that there are more than just the regular dangers of the Alaskan forests stalking her . . .
As Dodge sets out to find Echo, he can't ignore the feelings he still has for her. But will he be able to find her in time? And if he does, is there still room for him in her heart?
"Warren launches her thrilling new Sky King Ranch series with a topical tale of romantic suspense set in the breathtaking Alaskan bush. . . .Warren proves yet again why she is a master in the genre."--Booklist, Starred Review

Sigh. I’ve got a serious book hangover from reading Sunrise by Susan May Warren. This is the first book in the Sky King Ranch series, and, wow, it had me hooked from the first page. The setting is spectacular. Warren does an excellent job of painting the majestic and wild landscape of the Alaskan range while also knitting together an intricate and closely-woven, small community. I stood in awe beside the characters as they marveled at the Aurora Borealis and felt the rush and power of the dogs as they cut the sled through the snow. It was a fantastic trip to the wilderness! And the characters…I fell hard for Dodge and Echo’s story. And while this is definitely a suspense story with turn-the-pages-as-fast-as-you-can action, it is also a beautiful and touching love story. I don’t want to spoil a single minute of their time together, but I will say this is one of those books where the characters stay close to mind whether the book is open or not. Overall, I enjoyed every aspect of this story. I have gushed about it to whoever I can get to listen. It’s fabulous. It’s action-packed. It’s beautiful. It’s heartfelt. And it’s only the beginning!! I can’t wait for the next book to release. Fans of romantic suspense will want this book on their shelves!! I was given a copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations of a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Thrilling adventure!

I'm excited to begin a new series full of adventure from Susan May Warren! The setting of Alaska is epic, with extreme weather and grizzly bears the norm. The personalities of the characters are vivid, and I was quickly drawn into their world. Dodge and Echo have a difficult history of childhood friendship and young romance gone horribly awry, and it was gratifying to see them begin to heal and forgive their unseen hurts. The angst of their relationship gives way to powerful feelings that are only strengthened through their trials and I loved the way they supported each other as much as their chemistry. They both have complex family dynamics as well that come into play, and the theme of seeking and following God's will helps Echo, Dodge, and their parents envision a new future full of hope. The author skillfully balances the personal drama with dangerous rescues and nail-biting flights that kept me enthralled late into the night, not able to put the book down. Highly recommend! Sunrise is a great start to Susan May Warren’s newest series, Sky King Ranch. I really enjoyed this book. It was full of danger, mystery, adventure, suspense and romance. I adored the characters Echo and Dodge. They were believable and ones that are relatable. I loved the beautiful Alaskan setting. This is one of those books that is not predictable and full of twists and turns. I never knew what was going to happen next. I had no problem reading the whole book in one sitting. It is now one of my favorites I have read by this author to date. I am giving Sunrise five stars. Readers who enjoy reading clean romantic romance. I am looking forward to reading the next book from the Sky King Ranch series, Sunburst. I received a paperback copy of Sunrise from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Susan May Warren never disappoints! Her books leave my heart feeling warm and full. She is a masterful storyteller whose series are like a finely-woven, beautifully-intricate web where each thread is connected to another! It makes me excited to return to her books time and again, to find characters I know I’ll love and stories that expound on each other. This captivating new release launches readers into the new Sky King Ranch series but reads as a standalone novel and focuses on the story of Dodge Kingston, a former Air Force pilot returning home for the first time in ten years and his teenage love, Echo Yazzie, an Alaskan homesteader, dog sled runner and research guide. A beautiful story of restoration, healing and forgiveness in the otherwise unforgiving setting of the Alaskan wilderness - Warren brings the frozen tundra and homesteader life alive with her vivid imagery, both on land and from the sky. I found this exciting second-chance romance to be very enjoyable for numerous reasons besides the incredible, vast setting where the story takes place. One, I loved the heart-pounding adventure her characters faced of multiple search-and-rescues, wild grizzlies and hair-raising moments in the sky. Two, I enjoyed the dangerous suspense Warren created which kept me quickly turning the pages. Three, I dearly love her expertly crafted characters who present as relatable, raw and heroic. In each of Warren’s books, she delivers characters who struggle through real-life situations, emotional turmoil and brokenness as well as offers threads that are rich in family, friendship and strength. In Sunrise, main characters Echo and Dodge face past regrets and residual anger while seeking forgiveness and reconciliation that comes about by a personal surrender to God’s will for their lives… Which leads me to perhaps my favorite part of Warren’s Sunrise - the emotional, faith-based depth of the story that offered hope and spoke to my heart in a profound way but didn’t overpower the unique unfolding of an exciting contemporary romance and epic adventure in heart of the Alaskan wilderness. Lastly, Warren beautifully wraps up her exciting story with a happy ending which I enjoyed while leaving readers with a suspenseful cliffhanger (or two!) and her signature launch into the next book of the series, Sunburst, which I am very eagerly anticipating! *I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher. All thoughts are my own and I was not required to post a positive review.
Can You Ever Go Home Again?

After many years of estrangement from his family, Dodge Kingston has returned home. Bot not for long. He is only there long enough to fill-in for his father at their ranch, and taking over the mail run until his dad recovers. At one time, this was the life Dodge dreamed of living, working the ranch, doing the mail run, checking on the people that lived in far away, isolated areas. He even thought he would marry Echo, raise a family, and meet the hardships of Alaskan living together, but that was not to be. Both Echo and his family made sure he knew if there was a choice to be made, they wouldn't choose him. Even though Dodge is counting down the minutes until he can leave, he finds himself getting drawn back into Echo's life. Because of that, both Echo and his own life become in danger. It is not just from the rugged elements they live in, but from a rogue trail guide, as well as, some dangerous Russians. Ms. Warren is an expert writer, and this book does not disappoint. It has excitement, along with perilous and precarious situations. The tale is told from a Christian perspective with lots of words of wisdom from Dodge's dad--and there is an unexpected revelation about him. This electrifying story has cliffhangers that will have you longing for another installment of this exciting story. I recommend this 5-star book to those who like intriguing adventure that includes romance and family relationships! Revell Books has provided Tickmenot with a complimentary copy of, Sunrise, for the purpose of review.
Romantic Alaskan Adventure!

This is a warning. This book will keep you up past your bedtime, and it will leave you in a state of anticipation! Author Susan May Warren has written a wonderful romantic adventure that's left me yearning for the next book in this new series. I've never been to Alaska, so I loved Warren's vivid descriptions of the rugged terrain, the bone-chilling cold, and her suggestion that this place of beauty can also be a place of danger. Sunrise has great characters, thrilling romance, second chances, and the reminder that God is with us at all times. There is also an ending that I didn't see coming. It is captivating Christian fiction, and a fantastic introduction to the Sky King Ranch series! I received an ARC of this book from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

All I can say is WOW! This book will leave you satisfied...and wanting more. Sunrise by Susan May Warren is absolutely everything I love about Christian Fiction! The setting of the Alaskan countryside is so descriptive you'll need a heating pad, the romance will warm things up, and the spiritual message will fill your heart to the brim! This is the kind of story that'll take you to church...in all the good ways. It's fantastically written and you might find yourself trying to slow down because the words just flow. Then, when you get to the end, you'll be left counting down the days until the next book in this series, Sunburst, will release! I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
Crazy Wild Ride!

To say I couldn’t wait to read this book is an understatement. Susan May Warren is amazing at what she does, and I can’t seem to get enough! When I pick up a book from her I want to make my time and savor it, but also read it as fast as possible with no distractions. Sunrise is the first book in the Sky King Ranch series and I couldn’t wait to dive in. Warren kept me on the edge of my seat and I loved every single moment of it. Dodge Kingston is the definition of hunky hero. As if having served in the military wasn’t enough, he also flies airplanes and choppers. But his heart has always belonged to one woman, and Echo is definitely one of a kind. Being raised in Alaska makes a woman tough. And Echo has had enough trauma in her life that would make anyone want to lock themselves inside. Being a homebody isn’t always a bad thing, and she still leads guided tours around Alaska. When Dodge comes back home, old feelings aren’t buried as deep as either of them thought. Can Dodge and Echo clear the air about what happened 10 years ago? Or will their past continue to define them even to the point of pushing them even closer to danger? I enjoyed every moment I spent reading this book, and had a really difficult time putting it down once I started. This story had me biting my nails, swooning, and also tucking an extra blanket around myself to stay warm while picturing the cold Alaska Wild. I felt as if I was with them as they trekked through the woods, and ran straight into danger. When I turned the last page it was a little sad because I knew I would have to wait until the next book comes out before I could spend more time with the Dodge, Echo and their families. It was also nice to get to see a few familiar faces from previous novels thrown in. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Romance and Suspense. I fell in love with this little Alaskan Town, and know without a doubt you will too. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishers and was in no way forced to post a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Alaskan Mystery

Cindy D - 3 years ago
I enjoy Susan May Warren's books. She is a prolific writer who writes across multiple genres. Sunrise is the first book in her newest series, Sky King Ranch, and as an additional bonus, it's set in Alaska! This story is full of action, interesting characters, family drama, and romance. It is a quick read that will keep you on the edge of your seat and flipping pages long after you should have turned out the light. There is a mystery inside of a mystery and it is incredibly well-written. The story will leave you hanging with an intense cliff-hanging and questions unanswered. The story is realistic and you can see Alaska, the snow, the danger, and the desire to protect wildlife. There is so much going on in this story that I find words inadequate to describe everything I am thinking and feeling. I would highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys adventure/suspense stories with a light romance and faith element. Thank you to Revell for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
ALASKAN ADVENTURE OF LOVE
5 out of 5 stars
Connywithay - 3 years ago
“You’re brave and smart, and in the darkness that can be my life … you’re the sunrise,” Echo confesses in Susan May Warren’s novel, Sunrise. ~ What ~ Book one of two in the Sky King Ranch series, this three-hundred-and-fifty-two-page paperback targets those who like a Christian contemporary romance rising in remote Alaska. Containing no profanity, topics of animal injury, physical abuse, and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. The author’s biography and advertisements are included. In this adventurous tale, ex-military Dodge has grudgingly returned to his family’s ranch to help his father after an accident. His hurt and pain from the past accelerate when he runs into his true love from ten years ago who broke his heart. Echo, a dogsledder and true Alaskan woman, believes everyone leaves her until Dodge and she agree to work together to find her friend who they think is lost in the wild. Both must learn to rely on God and remember He always watches over us. ~ Why ~ This book keeps the reader engaged while its protagonists use Alaska’s remote resources to survive. It has plenty of action mixed with a romance revisited from a decade ago. I appreciated its focus on our plans are not always God’s plans. The added tamed and untamed animals’ antics were entertaining. ~ Why Not ~ Some may not like a tale that includes learning how to forgive others and oneself, especially when it involves God’s constant care. Others may not like reading about the danger of the vast Alaskan terrain and how it can overwhelm those unprepared. ~ Wish ~ While I greatly appreciated the reference to God always being there for us, I wish the author included trusting Jesus and the eternal plan of salvation. I prefer all pronouns of God capitalized for reverence. ~ Want ~ If you enjoy a venturous story of mushing in the Alaskan forests, flying over the pristine snowpack, or staying alive during a blizzard, this romance of two lost individuals finding real love will brighten your soul while promoting God’s protection. No doubt, you will want to read its sequel to find out what else happens. Thanks to Revell and the author for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.
Amazing Romantic Suspense in Beautiful Wild Alaska!
5 out of 5 stars
Paty Hinojosa - 3 years ago
This was an amazing book set in stunning Alaska, so much worth the read! Susan May Warren never ceases to amaze me with her intricate, page-turner plots, her deep and compelling flawed -yet kind hearted- characters that have so many things that need to be fixed in their lives, but they’re not sure how to do it, until God, through human instruments and providential circumstances, shows them the light for them to see His Love and the right way to go. Her books always make me reflect upon my own life, choices, and trust in an Unconditional Loving God. This book was no exception! And I always admire how she delivers a spiritual message in such a natural, genuine, non-preachy way! Echo Yazzie, an Alaskan homesteader and dogsledder, has always embraced hope that her childhood love will someday return, and forgive her for rejecting him all those years ago. When, at eighteen, she rejected his unexpected marriage proposal, she never imagined all the things that would consequentially happen, least of all his leaving, with a broken family in his trail. But when Dodge finally comes back, she never expects the bitter, unforgiving version of him. She’s definitely not over him, but is he over her? Does it matter, if she’s bound to caring for her father who, after her mother left them, needs her near him? Dodge Kingston was supposed to be the heir to the Sky King Ranch someday. But after a painful heartbreak that involved his brother, he chose to enlist in the army without saying goodbye. Now, ten years later, after his father has a flying accident, he returns to his family’s ranch at his sister’s plea for help, to take care of his father and the ranch, while he mends. But there’s a big grudge he has with his father, that he has never forgiven. Not to say about his broken heart that is supposedly healed by now, but stutters crazily every time he sees Echo. He’s vowed to not get near his old flame, but when Echo is in danger, looking for her friend lost in the woods, with a blizzard and a grizzly on the wake, he realizes he’s not so over Echo. But can she keep her safe, and can she forgive him for leaving and being so unforgiving? There were so many amazing things about this book. One of them was the way she describes the incredible Alaskan landscape and wildlife. I felt as if I was in a movie, and almost felt the chills of the freezing weather. She’s an amazing writer. Another, is the way the plot never dragged, Echo and Dodge were constantly facing different dangers, and there was always the mystery of finding Peyton, the dogs, uncovering poachers, etc. Then, there was the romance, oh so sweet, yet so full of attraction and so deep. Swooning! And best of all was the message behind the character’s struggles: the need to forgive, even when the other person may not deserve it, the freedom of letting grudges go and give a second chance, letting go of the fear of making mistakes, of being hurt in the process, the trust in God that can bring good out of bad things, the Unconditional Love of God to each of us, in spite of our mistakes, among others. Beautifully portrayed. I also loved the secondary characters, especially Dodge’s dad, who was so full of wisdom. Actually, the quotes that impacted me are mostly from him. Like: “Forgiveness isn’t for the person you’re forgiving…It’s for yourself. It’s what you do to be set free.” All in all, a fantastic story that will give you a book hangover for a while, and that I will definitely reread. Absolutely recommended! You won’t be able to put it down! I can’t wait for Book Two in the Series! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the Publisher but wasn’t required to post a positive review. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.

This book was really engaging. If you wanted to know about Alaska...here's the book for you! I totally enjoyed visiting Alaska by way of this book. I have to admit the series title intrigued me, too. I am from the generation of years of a TV show called "Sky King". So had to absolutely read this book! So that being said, this book is full of adventure and intrigue, suspense and Romance! What more could a reader ask for, right??? This is the first book by this author that I have had the pleasure of reading. I am now a fan. This was a clean book with enthralling characters. There were huge grizzly bears, wolves, danger a great story plot of second chance romance. I loved the title and how it related to the book. So did I love this book? The answer is a clear YES! I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishing and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

This clean Christian story was an awesome start to the brand new ‘Sky King Ranch” series! It was set in Alaska with such descriptive imagery that I felt like I was there freezing and participating in events along with the characters. The story primarily followed Dodge, one of the triplets; along with his old girlfriend Echo who he had left behind in Alaska for the military. I enjoyed the steady pace of the plot and getting to know Dodge and Echo’s families and the peaceful yet dangerous day-to-day life in Alaska. This book had some drama, clean romance, and some Jane Doe mystery towards the end of the book. The characters and storylines drew me in from the first page and I read it in one day because I could not stop reading. I can’t wait to read more from this series which I hope will include other characters in the town and this family. I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

I am a big fan of Susan May Warren’s books so I was excited to read this one. The main characters are Dodge Kingston and Echo Yazzie; however, Susan May Warren has done an awesome job of including some amazing secondary characters. This novel is a good mix between mystery and romance. Though the chapters are a little longer than I would like making it seem to read a little slow, the story being so good made up for it. The plot to me focuses around several good lessons that everyone could use reminding on. One lesson is to not hold onto anger for too long. Another lesson revolves around forgiveness. I also feel like there is a lesson in the importance of communication within the plot of this novel. I believe that Dodge and Echo as well as Dodge and his father are where you will find this lesson of communication. On a somewhat random note, one of my favorite things about this book was realizing where Dodge and his brothers’ names came from. With all of that said, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a read in order to relax for awhile. Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in order to give an honest review.

Such a fantastic adventure filled with adrenaline, tender romance of a second chance love, faith-bolstering wisdom, and redemption and forgiveness after a long drought of anger and bitterness. I could not put the book down once I started it. I’ve never flown a plane/chopper, never worked with dogs, never met a wild grizzly bear, and never even visited Alaska but felt like I’ve done all these and more after being ensconced in Echo and Dodge’s world. I’m suspecting that the series will follow Dodge’s two brothers but I’m also hoping it will expand to include more of the uniquely wonderful secondary characters I’ve met along the way in Copper Mountain. Echo is a brave but wounded soul, dragged down by regret and darkness even as she makes a living in the Alaskan wilderness as a guide and protector of wild animals. Dodge is a loyal, steadfast Purple Heart earning former Air Force pilot who also has plenty of regrets but realizes his potential and dream and desperate need to forgive as he comes home and faces his past and future head on. I do so enjoy second chance romance and this one will remain one of my favorites. Mixed in with the romance is Echo and Dodge working to rescue hurt and needy people from snowy and stormy mountain, surviving bear attacks and other natural hazards, outsmarting some evil men with fast-paced action and plenty of suspense. And if that’s not enough, there is a mystery woman whose identity has yet to be revealed… If you’re looking for a great book with unforgettable characters and setting, heart-pounding action and suspense, heart-filling spiritual wisdom, and heart-melting romance, look no further. I’m starting out 2021 with a bam! I received the book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
