Bought this as a replacement for my 4 year old Swann which had completely failed. This seems better and improved with more storage but whilst the push notifications to my android phone work for camera power loss/restored they don't work for motion detection active - apparently its a known thing but Swann don't know how to fix it. I have followed all the online help, but it doesn't ....

In about 8 months 3 out of 4 cameras had flickering security lights when triggered. When the first one started acting up I initiated a warranty claim by email. This was a fairly lengthy process, by the time I had the first camera approved for replacement the others had failed. I asked if I could get those handled at the same time and was told I would have to start separate claims. It is not worth the hassle to do this for me. I just turned off the security light function. Obviously these lights are a issue if I have 3 out of four doing this.

I brought this two weeks ago and not impressed with the picture quality has it doesn’t look like 4k more like 720p pretty much the same before I upgraded and looks a little fussy at time. Had issues with the Ethernet port being faulty at times. To be honest my other set up is seven years old and I don’t see much difference.

To achieve the maximum resolution make sure you are connected to a 4K monitor. The camera has 3 different settings for streaming quality; low, medium, and high. If you are having problems streaming you can lower the settings and test to see if it improves. Note that lowering the stream settings does not affect the quality of the recordings. If you have very fast upload speeds you can set your camera to high, but if your upload speed is not that good then we recommend you use medium or low for the streaming setting. I have working with good success a DVR8-5580G system at home with 4 cabled cameras and the DVR device connected and monitoring by internet with Swan Security iOS iPhone software. Can I add a WiFi camera to the DVR 5580G system and control it similar as the other ones in same account ? I read about the WIFI-SPOTCAM Spotlight Outdoor Security Camera, can it works ? Which other WIFI camera model do you recommend ? With 4k ?

The setup was easy to run the wires from each camera and the picture was clear. The hardest thing to figure out was camera placement tonget the best coverage of the house.

You are better off getting a 8 channel, now I can add more cameras around the property which I been wanting to do for while. It was easy to program, just follow the instructions. i like that I can connect to the cameras thru any device I want. The cameras have good night vision. We have been having problems with break-ins around the neighborhood, so this is a must-have.

They all do what they are supposed to do - give you 8 channels of security video. My first had DVD picture quality. Not bad. My second had 720p HD cameras and that was much better picture quality. Both allowed you to see your cameras on your phone over the internet, but the setup was hard and the lag and frame rate was bad enough I never used it. I got this one when my last one died, and my main purchase priority was compatibility with my existing cameras. It has worked perfectly since day one, and was very easy to set up. Testing the user interface, I was pleased to see I could 'zoom in' to a picture with my mouse scroll wheel! Awesome! I also had a couple of the older cameras that needed replacing, so I put in two of the 5MP that came with it, and the picture quality is great!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ever since Swann updated their app, I am head over heels with their security systems - this one being no exception. The resolution of the 4k cameras is outstanding and I am able to cover the most important areas of my house that are susceptible to break-ins with all four cameras. Allowing the cameras to be accessed while in the app is great as I can check in at work no problems. The app itself still is a little slow, but a much better improvement than past years. If you want a security system that allows you to be in control, then look no further!

With having tools for my business in a storage shed the need for a security system was high. This particular security system is top notch. You have to hook it up with cables and such but everything is with this system. You can't put a price on security and/or safety. I enjoy seeing what the security system picks up and it has already caught a teen stealing a gas can off of my families porch. It also picks up animals crossing through. Pretty neat, huh?! If you are looking for a great security system I strongly urge you to give this system a whirl and you too will experience the same as I do.

The picture quality is amazingly clear at 5 megapixels. The app worked as advertised and was as simple as scanning the bar code on the DVR box and entering your password in (it's the Homeview app on google play store). The DVR is a plug and play device that plugs into your router and tv via HDMI. The display on my tv is vividly clear. The Swann system is working like a charm so far and I have a giant piece of mind being able to keep an eye on my home when I'm not there. I also figured out to get push notifications on the app for your phone you need to activate that option on the DVR. I've had no problems with the app at all, which was a concern at first when reading some reviews here that had issues. Overall I would recommend everyone to buy this camera system.
Can Swann wireless Adapter connect to a cellphone hotspot for the mobile wifi connection?

I received the system as a gift an now I wish I hadn’t. The camera case are poorly designed to adjusting them. You have to research any questions that you may have because SwannSecurity does have it. You get the NVR/DVR with the set up wizard on it but that does not set the complete system how about all of the other functions on the system. They say the email can work with gmail or yahoo, find the help to set up for yahoo. This was my first it may be my last.

System covers a large area of my yard and surrounding area .I can see and record all that takes place around my house.Love this system and would refer it to anyone that wants a dependable security system. Also the cost didn't break the bank.

I bought this DVR couple months ago lights and sirens dont work, firmware says it up to date.... teck support wasnt helpful, very poorly trained. not what id expect from a multi billion dollar company

It is NOT 4K the quality is between 1080 and 5MP but definitely not 4K. Does not show clear images even from 25 feet distance even with extra lights. I had to update DVR using USB stick to use any of its features like lights, alarm, heat detection - all of these features are laughable specially the alarm and heat detection. It doesn't detect anything special like it says "face and license plate recognition" you cannot read the number plate even from a distance of 25 feet. You also can't use some features on more than 1 camera at a time such as Line Crossing.. WHY? It says it doesn't false alert over leafs, wind blowing, well mine records all that plus it starts sending alerts even if there's changes in the sun light.. and so on..... This system is very much unreliable it records over a leaf's movement but does not record when someone walks into your drive way to check on your car doors... Mobile app is another story... DO NOT RECOMMEND.

PIR sensors work optimally when the camera is mounted around looking down somewhat and the subject of detection passes across their front. The more the object must "cross" the front of the camera the better the detection reliability. When placing your camera try to avoid situations where the subject would move straight toward the camera if possible. You may need to experiment with the sensitivity settings in the app and camera placement to get the ideal mix of detection. I installed this myself and it was so easy, plug and play and works a treat. Even caught my daughter throwing Macdonalds rubbish in the bin before dinner - haha. Its so clear and so easy to use. I thoroughly recommend the 4K version.

It's my first Security system and l think l have chosen a quality product. Great picture, easy to review recordings. For the price and easy of installation and with 2Tb HD I'm very happy. I can keep an eye on Ivy too.
