Swanson Activated Charcoal Capsules, Supports Bowel Regularity & Helps Ease Gas & Bloating, 520 mg (120 Capsules)

I was about to purchase the product, until I heard back from Customer Svc about what it contained. Being my doctor recommended the same brand I bought years ago (Integrative Therapeutics) for my positive mold exposure results, I was curious about what was in this brand. The IT brand contains coconut hulls, as all good activated charcoal is supposed to. However, I learned today, this product is made from WOOD.

I've been using this product for quite some time, but there has been a recent change in the quality for the last several purchases. One of the side effects of charcoal is, of course, darkened stools. That suddenly stopped happening with my use, even though my dosage has not changed. I had some charcoal from a few months ago that I bought, so I decided to make a comparison. I opened one of the old capsules from Swanson and one of the ones from my most recent purchases. The differences were stark! The older charcoal was so fine that it felt like powder. This new charcoal was extremely gritty. One of the things that makes charcoal effective is how fine it is ground before it is encapsulated. The more refined it is, the more surface area it has and the more adsorbing it can do. These current batches are extraordinarily ineffective, and I would caution anyone against purchasing them. This has been a great disappointment! This is not the first time I've had a problem with the Swanson brand since they've been under new ownership. Buyer beware!

A necessary component that we need to keep our system together

We have been using this product for a couple years and use it for a variety of things, homemade mascara, toothpaste, and especially for stomach upsets and it never lets us down. Great price, shipping is fast, and product is best I’ve tried!

Activated charcoal you a help, it is not as good as simethicone.

This Activated Charcoal is one of the best medical aids I've ever purchased. It has so many helpful uses. My daughter was stung by a bee. We opened the capsule, made a paste applied it to the sting, Lo and behold, in no time pain ceased. No swelling. Yes I would recommend this product. BE careful not letting it get on clothing.

This is an excellent product at a reasonable price. Great for detox and for stomach discomfort. It should not be used long term because it binds not only to toxins and gases but also to nutrients, being sort of indiscriminate binder, however it works quite well short term and when needed for a specific problem.

Excellent product and always essential to have on hand

I can't praise this enough. A friend recommended it for neutralizing the effects of sweets, and dubious things in food and it does a spectacular job. If I take 2 or 3 capsules with 4 - 6 ounces of water before and after I eat birthday cake & ice cream, or other food of no nutritional value, and I don't feel bad at all. Without it I do.

Best thing I've ever used for upset stomach. The other day a work buddy had food poisoning and I gave him a bottle. He too 2 capsules and 30 minutes later he was feeling much better. The last few years I've handed out a dozen bottles or so. A+

I have a bad problem with gas some times. Haven't figured out what causes it so can't fix it but two Activated Charcoal pill clear it up every time.

I started out with only one per day (always try to err on the side of caution). I am so glad I did. It caused painful bloating at first which did subside but it continued to cause MORE gas not less (embarrassing and painful) . At first I was taking it in the morning but learned that it should not be taken with other supplements or food. I still only take one a day but before I go to bed and gas seems to be much less. Do not know at this point if I will reorder but most likely not. I believe I will stick with a good probiotic. Do some research before using this type product.

I highly recommend researching the great benefits of charcoal for yourself. Charcoal will continue to remain as a main staple in our household. It is a comfort to always have on-hand and to know that we can easily reach for charcoal when the need arises.
