Fairly lightweight and sturdy, have not felt the need to remove it so far. The cable on top left seems unnecessary and hard to clean, so could do with that being removable (it alleges to hold the keyboard in place but does a worse job than the magnetic keyboard, so wholly unnecessary) but it doesn't really detract from the case. As Microsoft moves away from the old Surface Pens, an update to the pen holder above the camera might be nice as it does nothing for the Slim Pen, but does well holding small actual pens, so not a total loss. Positives, the strap on the back is fantastic for portability, and the case fits seamlessly with the approved Microsoft keyboard. Ports are all accessible, no functionality lost in any way that I've seen.

I researched and looked hard at many available options. I had ordered two other cases that I just did not like, and returned both immediately, prior to ordering this Targus Protect Case for Microsoft Surface® Pro 9. I am very pleased with the amount of protection it affords at the corners, back, and side edges. The hand/palm strap in the back works well but I am not sure how it will hold up with continual and rugged use in the field. The case is easy to install on the Surface Pro 9 and will be removed easily with a little bit of effort. It will stay installed during use. The quality of the material seems very good and the case is well made. The case fits the unit very well with no gaps or loose areas. The charging and USB C ports are easy to access. The cable plugs are easy to attach with the case on. I was expecting a separate protective piece that would slide onto the unit kickstand for added protection. Targus has included a kickstand of their own that is permanently attached to the back of the case. The Pro 9 kickstand is not used and stays fully protected. The Targus kickstand works well, and the hinges seem to be of good quality and should last well with normal use. A stylus strap is included, but I have not found a way to securely attach it to the newest Microsoft pen/Stylus using the nylon loop connector. I am looking at purchasing the optional shoulder strap that attaches to the case the same way with a nylon loop connection. It would just add an additional level of drop protection as long as it was on your shoulder or around your neck. It will also allow the Surface Pro 9 to be carried outside of a backpack or rolling case, and stay readily available for use as one moves around if needed. Overall it is a sold piece for everyday use. It fits my needs and I feel the protection level is more than satisfactory. I would want something a bit heavier for extreme outdoor use, but for office, client, and home application use it does a great job in my opinion. I would recommend it to my friends and colleagues. Targus quality is evident in this case.
