Q: when time runs out, will timer give a single beep, or is a insistent, annoying, continuous sound for maybe 30 sec. until it stops?
A: It is 3 short beeps, consistently repeating, until the START/STOP button is pressed.

Q: How to turn off when not in Use???
A: There is no way to turn off the timer unless you were to remove the batteries. The power drain should be minimal on a timer like this which is why some timers don't have on/off buttons or switches. Please reach back out with additional questions.

Q: Is the timer backlit, so I can use in darkness? Doe it turn off -- i.e., so the battery isn't always running?
A: The timer does not have a backlight. The 0.35-inch LCD readout provides a clear, easy-to-read display that can be seen from a distance. There is no way to turn off the timer unless you were to remove the batteries. The power drain should be minimal on a timer like this which is why some timers don't have on/off buttons or switches.
