Our turtle is 39 years old and has always eaten tetramin floating turtle sticks. She will not touch them since tetra changed them- the color is a light tan instead of the green they always have been. It's been more than a week. So frustrated with your company messing around with the formula. Multiple people online saying their turtles won't eat the new stuff.
1 reply from Consumer Relations team - 7 months ago
Thank you for your comments. The formula was changed to remove all of the artificial ingredients. This provides a more nutritious and beneficial diet for your turtle. They are also able to more easily digest and utilize the food. Turtles can be skeptical of change but will eat the new food once they realize that is their new diet. Mixing with some of the old formula, if you still have any, often helps. So that we can assist you, email petsupport@spectrumbrands.com.
Turtle loves Reptomin

My Eastern Painted Turtle has been eating Reptomin for twelve years along with occasional worms and insects. The only complaint is the artificial coloring. My filter works very well and removes debris and odors. I wouldn’t have to change the water except for the buildup of green color which I believe is coming from the food. I don’t use a tank light and there’s no algae buildup. But I do think the food is keeping her happy and healthy.

I have been using this product for my newt for thirty years. The last few containers have not been the same- the sticks sink after a few moments. My newt cannot find anything on the floor of the tank, so they just dissolve. I kept buying new batches as I believed it was a fluke. However, the last two containers of sticks not only sink, they are making a thick, oily scum on the surface. I'm not sure what to do as this is pretty much the only thing my newt will consistently eat. Please get rid of the oil and go back to the old formula.

I've bred turtles and tortoises for the past 35 year's. I feed a mixture of Reptomin, and cubed beef steak to my smaller water turtles with amazing results. Generation after generation of all kinds of cool turtle morphs, and albino turtles.
Sticks Don't Float

I have been using this product for 13+ years. The last 3 batches of sticks no longer float. My turtle won't eat them unless they are floating and it is clogging my filter. Also, there is suddenly a rainbow film on the water and my turtle has an unusual film on her, too. Something has changed. I have loved this product but cannot recommend it anymore.
1 reply from Consumer Relations team - 6 years ago
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, KSD1. We recommend you contact our Care Team at 1-800-526-0650, as this product should definitely still float. The film you are noticing is a protein build up in the water from left over food. Please remove any uneaten food after one minute, and do a partial water change of the tank to help remove the film. In the meantime, we will email you directly.

I've used the food for 16 years and they have changed it. The first ingredient is fish crude instead of fish meal. The food is really making the tank stink.
1 reply from Consumer Relations team - 6 years ago
Thank you for your review, Gretchen417! We are sorry to hear you are not happy with your latest container of ReptoMin. Please be assured the formula has NOT changed recently. Turtles require 10 gallons of water for every inch of shell diameter, and weekly partial water changes, so the change in the environment may be due to your pet having out grown his tank or his filter system. Our Care Team would be happy to help you with this product, so please call 1-800-526-0650.
Food sticks

I have been using Reptomin food sticks for my 20 year old Reeves turtle ever since we got her. I read other reviews and responses regarding something changing recently. I just bought a large 10oz. size and the food sticks begin sinking within 10 seconds to the bottom of the aquarium. I had another smaller bottle do this and returned it and all was normal until I bought this larger size. If the formula hasn't changed, what would cause the food to immediately sink and not float as it always has. My turtle will not go looking for the food on the bottom so if this is the new, I will have to look for another alternative food. I would always give this product a high rating until recently in which I would rate the product very low.

We are sorry to hear your food is sinking, instead of floating, Jim! There have been no formula changes, and the food should definitely still float. Please contact our Care Team for a replacement can of food by calling 1-800-526-0650.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for continuing this excellent quality product and not changing it for all these years. I have been raising my pride & joy...my profound red eared slider for over 31 years thus far with this exquisite product as being a staple to his diet. Since 06/30/2014 I have adopted a little red eared slider who too has been growing strong and healthy because of this awesome food source. I have been a “ninja turtle momma” since I was seven years old and have loved it all along. I have always been impressed with Reptomin and the blessings the nutritional value and high quality ingredients have provided my pride :-)

Wow, thank you for your feedback, Teeta! That is incredible - 31 years! Congratulations on being such a great turtle mom and keep up the great care!

My 40 year old terrapin has flourished on ReptoMin sticks, BUT the formula seems to have changed; I bought a big tub of the new wavy ones without noticing, he took one in his beak and spat it straight out, and now recoils in horror when I try to sneak them in, all flippers waggling as he leaps back. I've cleaned out the local shop of all its old stock, they tell me they can't get any more and I'm now desperate, as he'll clearly starve rather than eat the new ones. I totally recommend the old formula, but cannot recommend the new ones because he hates them.
Like getting large volume at one time.
