Description
Tetra® HT Submersible Heater is designed to keep your aquatic fish comfortable, with an electronic thermostat that automatically maintains a consistent water temperature of 78 degrees and prevents overheating, extending heater life. An indicator light lets you know when the water is heating (red light) and when it reaches the proper temperature (green light). Inside, silicon carbide crystals improve heat distribution and transfer. The strong glass tube is heat and shock resistant. This submersible heater is easy to use – just attach to the inside of the aquarium wall using the suction cup (included) in an area with good water circulation.
The Tetra HT Submersible Heater is available in different wattages to fit your aquarium: use the 50-watt HT10 in 2 to 10 gallon aquariums; 100-watt HT30 for 10 to 30 gallons; 150-watt HT40 for 30 to 40 gallons; and 200-watt HT55 for 40 to 55 gallons. This heater is UL Listed.

The box says it has an app… that is false it hasn’t been available on the App Store since August 15, 2023. I bought this January 2025. (Please take it off ur box) thanks

Thank you for taking time to post a review. We are disappointed that the box's language was not clear to you. This heater has never had an app and we have never advertised that it did. The app was for tracking maintenance only and the packaging does not link it to the heater; it is the same information on all of our products. Should you need help with using the heater, please email our team.

I bought mine today notice it indicates red but doesn’t last long on it then turns to green seems to stay in that color. Wondering if thats normal cause its not heating my tank.
1 reply from Consumer Relations team - 11 months ago
Thank you for taking time to post a review. The red light only comes on when the heater is heating. To determine if it is heating or not, you must have an aquarium thermometer on the tank to gauge the temperature. So that we can help you, email petsupport@spectrumbrands.com.

Thank you for your comments. Heaters take approximately 12-24 hours to regulate. We recommend using a quality thermometer to gauge if the heater is working or not. So that we can help you, email petsupport@spectrumbrands.com.

I've had my first tetra heater for 10 haply years in my 10gallons. Upgraded tank to bigger one and figured id get the same model as the first one since it wasn't up for it. I set it up and didn't stress much about the fact it took a long time to get the tank to set temp. Day 2 i Noticed it looked humid inside but google mentioned it was normal. Today my most my precious fish are dead. They basically boiled. I removed my air stone and saw the heater leaks tiny bubbles. not only the amount of money gone just like that but i watch thos fish grew and got attached to them. This sucks. 3 days. This morning everything was fine. Couple of hours is all it took to ruin years of trust in the brand. I'm done. This is outrageous

DONT BUY FOR THE PRICE ITS HORRIBLE DOES NOT WORK I HAVE HAD ISSUES HEATING MY AQUARIUM SINCE I BOUGHT THE HEATER YESTURDAY
1 reply from Consumer Relations team - 1 year ago
Thank you for your review Regina. We regret this heater has not met your expectations. It typically takes around 24 hours for heaters to regulate the temperature in a tank, depending on the size of the tank and the temperature when the heater is installed. The larger the tank, the more time you should allow it to regulate and raise the temperature. So that we can hopefully help you, email petsupport@spectrumbrands.com.
Exploded, Burnt Carpet

Woke up to the smell of burning in my room around 3:45am today, was concerned it was my new mist system for my gargoyle gecko. Then realize there’s little black specks and water all over my room, my mirror, the ceiling. Then step on something, turns out it’s burning heater parts that burned a hole in my carpet and foot. Wonderful way to wake up when I have a 7am class tomorrow. So now I unplug my two inkbird controllers for my heaters, I was only using this heater as a backup since my other one wasn’t getting up the temperature I wanted. Try to find the heater, which was in the back of a tank with built in filtration, and it isn’t there. It’s laying across the room, unplugged itself from the heater, about six inches from my head. The rest is on top of my 29 gallon next to the tank that had this heater, and whatever else is sprayed on my ceiling and bed or burning into my carpet. Absolutely ridiculous that a practically new heater exploded, I bought it two months ago but it had only been running two weeks. Was keeping the tank at 76°, fully submerged, and I cannot come up with a reason for this happening other than it being a crap product. These heaters often come back into the store I work at with complaints of them stopping heating the tank after a few weeks, but never this so far. I now get to enjoy the smell of burnt carpet and finish cleaning up the mess of the explosion before I get up at 5:30. Thanks Tetra!

I bought the 50 W for a 5 gallon. After 3 days our fish died, the water temp was cold never heated properly even with the signal going green for three days, save your money buy another brand..

We appreciate your taking time to post a review. Hearing of your fish loss makes us very sad! Room temperature water will only slow down the metabolism of your fish. So that we can help you, please email our team at petsupport@spectrumbrands.com.

I've got a graveyard of ten of these. The last two I've gotten didnt last two months. That's not counting all the ones I've returned. I've lost so much money on these. Kept giving them the benefit of doubt but sadly my mistake. Dont waste your money or time.
I would not buy this again.

I’ve had the tetra 2-10g heater in my 5g betta tank for about a year now it works great, it keep’s the water at 77° The heater does need to be completely under water at all times unless you unplug it I think that could be why there’s so many bad reviews

I bought one 2 weeks ago and it has done absolutely fabulous at staying right at 78° in my 2 gal. Bought another one a few days ago for my 5.5 gal. The light turns red and green, but the heat won't go above 74° and my poor betta is staying cold. He stays right by the heater all day and idk what to do:( Now I'm worried if the first one that works well won't do well in the 5 gal I bought to upgrade her tank.

i bought this 2-10 gallon heater 50 watts for my 20 gallon fish tank not even 3 months ago and the heat in the tank never really got above 74 degrees Fahrenheit.
1 reply from Consumer Relations team - 3 years ago
Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear you are disappointed i this heater. It is not rated for tanks up to 20 gallons which is probably why it could not raise the temperature above 74 degrees in your tank. So that we can help you, email petsupport@spectrumbrands.com.

I’ve gotten one before and it worked great and didn’t over heat but with the one I just got as soon as I turned it on and it started to smell like burnt plastic and started to smoke…it was so hot that it burned me. Once again I don’t know what happened because I’ve had one before
