Lloyd Alexander (1924-2007) was the author of more than forty books for children and adults, including the beloved children's fantasy series, the Chronicles of Prydain, one of the most widely read series in the history of fantasy and the inspiration for the animated Disney film, The Black Cauldron. His books have won numerous awards, including the Newbery Medal, the Newbery Honor, and the National Book Award for Juvenile Literature.

Fantastic First Adventure book, for boys and girls! I remember that THIS Book.. Turned Me into a READER! Think The Hobbit( small group of misfits including a boy pig farmer) for about age 11 to 13yrs old. Treasure Island was my next book. Have Fun With this Adventure! 😉

These books were my childhood favorites!!! And they are just as delightful to revisit as an adult. Best to introduce them to avid readers between the ages of 10 and 12. I gave this particular set only 4 stars because mine did NOT arrive with the advertised "stunning new map of Prydain by fantasy artist David Wyatt" included in the box set. So sad!

Delightful set of adventure tales - loved that one of the main characters is a brave female with a lot of spunkiness. While fun, also includes difficult life decisions, choosing what is right rather than what is easy. Highly recommend this series.

I can't attest to the quality of writing, because the set was purchased as a gift. However, I can tell you that I was disappointed to find out that the set is a paperback set. Will definitely return.
