About the Book

"Perfect for the anti-aviary (or bird fanatic with a sense of humor), this snarky illustrated handbook is equal parts profane, funny, and--let's face it--true. Featuring 50 common North American birds, such as the White-Breasted Butt Nugget and the Goddamned Canada Goose (or White-Breasted Nuthatch and Canada Goose for the layperson), Kracht identifies all the idiots in your backyard and details exactly why they suck with humorous, yet angry, ink drawings. Each entry is accompanied by facts about a bird's (annoying) call, its (dumb) migratory pattern, its (downright tacky) markings, and more. With migratory maps and tips for birding, plus musings on the avian population and the ethics of birdwatching, this is the essential guide to all things wings. No need to wonder what all that racket is anymore!"--Amazon.com.

Perfect book for the birder and anti-birder alike

Featuring common North American birds, such as the White-Breasted Butt Nugget and the Goddamned Canada Goose (or White-Breasted Nuthatch and Canada Goose for the layperson), Matt Kracht identifies all the idiots in your backyard and details exactly why they suck with humorous, yet angry, ink drawings. With The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America, you won't need to wonder what all that racket is anymore!

Review Quotes

Holiday Gift Pick A delightfully juvenile fake field guide about birds with such names as White-Breasted Butt Nugget and the Goddamned Canada Goose (or White-Breasted Nuthatch and Canada Goose as they are commonly known.) This book exists solely to make us giggle.
-BookRiot

Matt Kracht's hilarious, fully illustrated, obscenely satirical spoof, 'The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America.' The bizarrely-behaving 50 birds that Kracht describes are technically real - the White-Breasted Nuthatch, the Canada Goose, etc. - though the author can't resist giving them insulting nicknames (The White-Breasted Butt Nugget, for example) while pointing out their various annoying peculiarities.

This book is hilarious! While you might not really be able to identify backyard birds with this guide, it's still super funny and worth it for the silly pictures and comedy alone. Beware, though! If you're offended by swearing, you will not like this. It has plenty of cursing in it, so think of it like a rated R movie.

Listen, I love birds, but this book is hilarious. It’s got adult language in it and if that offends you just skip over it. It’s truly hilarious.

Wonderful book, recently a friend of my was feeling down and this book rightfully cheered her up! There’s a lot of curses and bad words but that just adds to the humor. Instead of the typical bird or animal books that are very cut and dry with their explanations and descriptions, this book’s vulgar language brings a smile to the face and laughter to the room! I definitely recommend buying this if you don’t mind the cursing!

Buyer beware, this book does have explicit language as other reviewers stated. If you are not offended by that kind of thing, you will love this book! It is absolutely hilarious and had me cracking up from front to back. I have it on my coffee table and love seeing the look of surprise on my friends faces when they pick it up.

Explicitly Rude

I purchased this book because it was touted as a "humorous" take on birds, particularly, so called, dumb ones. I was going to give it to my mom for her birthday because she is always bemoaning that antics of our local mockingbirds. Apparently, I did not read the description closely enough. I don't mind a saucy word or two, but this book was so filled with profane words and references that there is no possible way that I can give it to my mother. Also, the author was so "salty" about his disdain for birds altogether, not just dumb ones, that it wasn't really funny. This book would be better described as a bound rant from a bird hater. That said, I will be returning the book.

Do not buy this book without first reading this! I pre-ordered this book back in January as a gift for my 70 year old dad who is an avid birder. Got a phone call today that my dad received the book and boy am i embarrassed! The book has lots of profanity and even a certain four letter word (the review guidelines won’t let me tell you which one but use your imagination). So disappointing to have what appears to be a cute addition to a birders library, turn out to be inappropriate. The book description should indicate this to the buyer so they can decide to purchase or not. I’m definitely getting the book and returning it to local Target store and showing them the book details.
