About the Book

"Eliza Ellis has stayed hidden in Balfour Forest for as long as she can remember. Perhaps her only friends are the trees, or her little dog, or her story-telling father called Captain. But at least she is safe from the cruel world outside, a world Captain has warned her against and protected her from. That is, until a handsome stranger named Felton Northwood invades her quiet forest and steals her away. Why does he tell such lies? Why does he insist that her name is Miss Eliza Gillingham, daughter of a viscount, who disappeared fourteen years ago after the murder of her own mother? A murder Eliza is said to have witnessed. When Felton returns Eliza to Monbury Manor and reunites her with a man who is told to be her father, all she remembers are the strange nightmares that have plagued her since childhood. Why have they suddenly grown worse? Are the answers hidden inside her own mind? As danger mounts and lethal attempts are made on her life, Eliza and Felton must work together to uncover the identity of a killer who has stayed silent for fourteen years. When she finally uncovers the horrendous memories trapped in her mind, will divulging the truth cost her the man she loves--and both of their lives?"--

Must Read Regency

An original gothic suspense with a touch of regency romance that keeps you turning pages as you will be enthralled from beginning to end. I loved that it kept me guessing and the inspirational faith theme woven within like a beautiful tapestry. The characters are so real they jump off the page and right into your heart. The words flow from the page like a gently flowing stream that picks up speed when it riffles and then ebbs and flows straight into you and leaves you thinking about it for days afterwards as the story feels alive. I highly recommend and then you will want to devour her other books. This is the fourth book by this author but her books read like a seasoned pro. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

Life had been good to Eliza, living in the forest, taken care of by the Captain and nothing to worry or cause her fear. But that was really the case or why did she have horrible nightmares? Kidnapped from the forest and returned to her childhood home - if this was a good thing, why did someone continue to try to kill her? What was the mystery behind the murder of her mother and who was the monster? The author has done a fabulous job of keeping you guessing all the way to the end. What really happened all those years ago? You really want to sit down and enjoy this wonderful regency story with plenty of mystery and intrigue. A copy was received through Barbour Publishing, NetGalley and CelebrateLit. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.

Captivating

To say I couldn't put this mystery, romance fiction work down would be an understatement. I found this book so intriguing. Eliza Ellis was raised in the forest by her beloved "father" the Captain. Eliza knew no different than her world in the forest and the world she read about in so many books. One day in intruder comes to her safe space and takes her away. Eliza has no idea what is going on or even how to adapt to her new world. Now she is being told her "father", the Captain, is not her father but rather Lord Ellis is her father. And what has happened to her mother? What are the reoccurring nightmares she has? Will she ever fully understand why she has had nightmares for so many years. So much is being revealed to Eliza and she is not sure she wants to confront any of it. This book is romance, historical and mystery all wrapped into one. I found myself completely intrigued by the story line, but also mystified. Some of it was unbelievable, but it was also believable in a way. So very intriguing. Hannah writes in a way the will have the reader coming back for more in an otherwise unbelievable story. I thoroughly enjoyed The Girl From the Hidden Forest by Hannah Linder.

Captivating Gothic Romance!

I've read several of this author's books and this book confirms what I've already learned. Hannah Linder is an amazing wordsmith! I relished the beauty and seclusion of Balfour Forest, the home of Eliza Ellis, her father, and her beloved dog, Merrylad, but Eliza's life wasn't as idyllic as she believed. The Girl from the Hidden Forest is a captivating Regency story, part fairytale, and part Gothic mystery, that kept me turning the pages to learn the secrets of Eliza's past. Secrets that would forever change her future. Eliza was sweet and innocent, content to live in her magical forest until she was abruptly taken away. What would she discover as she navigated a life much different than the one that she'd always known? Linder kept me fully invested in this tale that's filled with mystery, suspense, and Gothic vibes, but the emotions were what kept me turning the pages! I experienced surprise, sorrow, and even fear, but there was also immense joy in witnessing the relationship that evolved between Eliza and Felton Norwood. He seemed determined to keep her safe but could Eliza be sure of his true motives? Was he worthy of her love and trust? This fantastic book fed my love of mystery, Gothic fiction, and Regency romance, but it's also a delight for all who appreciate exceptional writing. I recommend The Girl from the Hidden Forest to all who enjoy historical Christian fiction. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Captivating and page turner Gothic Romance!

Wow! Another amazing and captivating Gothic Suspenseful Romance by Hannah Linder. I have loved her previous books and this one is as good as the others. I think this one was more unputdownable because of the intensity of the tragic events, the near-death experiences and attacks, and because of the innocence and passion of the main characters. Eliza Ellis has only known her secluded life at the Balfour Forest, guarded by her father, whom she calls Captain, and spent in relative freedom and carelessness in the forest, nurtured by her imagination, the reading of her books, and the Captain’s storytelling. Yet, her nights are constantly filled with nightmares of an unidentified beast that wants to destroy her. One day, unexpectedly, she is torn from her only world by Felton Northwood, who claims she is the daughter of a viscount, Lord Gillingham, who witnessed her own mother’s murder when she was a child. How can that be possible? Is the life in which she has been sheltered all a lie? Does it have anything to do with her strange nightmares? Felton needs her memories, but at the moment, she has none. Until getting to know people from her childhood stir little by little painful memories, that may be freeing in some ways, but will endanger forever the relationship with the man who has quickly become her anchor and safe harbor, her everything. Like I said, I literally couldn’t put this book down! The plot is captivating, there is non-stop action and suspense, and it is fast paced, yet at same time the writing feels almost magical as it describes the thoughts and feelings of the main characters, that I felt I was immersed in the story like a movie, so vivid! I fell in love with Felton and Eliza, so different, yet so perfect for each other. Eliza was like a kind of Rapunzel, having known nothing but her life in the forest and her devoted Captain. Naïve, innocent, sweet and pure, she had a heart of gold, untainted by the outside world. Her meek personality, due to her isolation, grows during the story until she becomes a resilient and strong person, ready to face what life throws at her, with the help of God. Her love for Felton is so endearing and humbling. Felton is a strong man, tested for many years by social rejection and the pain of seeing his family suffer and his family’s name unfairly tainted. Yet, for all of his resentment, he has a kind and vulnerable heart, which Eliza soon wins over with her sweetness and ingenuity. Of course, in the eyes of society, she can never be the woman he needs to recover his social status, yet in his heart, she’s everything he needs and has always longed for. But someone wants her killed. His protectiveness and his strong reactions to defending her were swooning, he was a fantastic hero and protector. Until his love for her is tested against his love of his family. The secondary characters were wonderfully portrayed too. I liked Felton’s friendship with Lord Gillingham. I liked Minnie and how Eliza befriends her when no one cares for her. Even sweet Merryladd, Eliza’s dog is so endearing. The villain is so evil, that it really caused me angst and fear. Reading by his point of view made this book darker, yet more suspenseful. The faith inspired message about trust in God, and about one’s true worth not depending of social status was thought provoking. All in all, a book I shall remember because it impacted me. The final twists were so unexpected and the ending was worth it and satisfying after all the pain. I highly recommend this book to lovers of a good suspense and gothic tales! It will captivate you! I received a complimentary copy from Barbour Publishing but wasn’t required to post a review. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.

4-4.5 Stars! So glad I stuck with reading this book since it wasn’t really grabbing my interest at first and I almost stopped reading it but I hate not finishing a book once I start it. Most tend to get better and this book did NOT disappoint! I laughed, I cried- a few times actually, and got angry with fictional characters! (That’s how you know it’s a really great book, when you get emotionally invested.) This is my first time reading this author & hopefully it won’t be the last because she is a very talented writer. Surprises, mystery, no sexy times as this is a clean Christian romance, stupid decisions that make you wonder what’s wrong with these people, bad guys, lies and betrayal, murder and attempted murder, some romance, a main male character I really wanted to have just a few “words” with at times, and some enlightening points that have actually made me rethink not being religious. I know, right! Eye opening stuff that makes a person wonder. Thankfully, it wraps up with a great HEA ending. The main characters are Felton & Eliza. Eliza I really liked and felt so bad for, I just wanted to hug her throughout the book. Felton, on the other hand, was a pretentious prig who was more concerned with gossiping peoples opinions of him than how the young woman he kidnapped was feeling being in a whole new world with new rules and mean girls she’s never dealt with before. I didn’t really like him for 80% of the book. The author has a way of getting the reader invested in these characters lives that I wish I knew how to achieve. I cried over the lives of fictional characters! That’s how good this book was. Maybe I’m just overly emotional right now or just really felt for these fictional “people”. Incase I haven’t mentioned it enough, they aren’t real people, this was a work of fiction. But it made me feel for real life people who have had bad things happen to them like Eliza. I’ve had a lot happen to me in my life but at least I have my family and loved ones for support. Why can’t everyone just be kind & helpful to one another?! But at least it’s getting better than it was hundreds of years ago. Anyway, this really was an excellent book and I’d highly recommend reading it. You’ll never guess who the baddies are & that’s all I’m saying. Enjoy! *I received this book at no charge & I voluntarily left this review.*

The Girl from the Hidden Forest is a cleverly plotted, brilliantly written, captivating story. It kept me turning pages to see what happened next, and what happened was usually not what I expected! Beautifully crafted characters drive the story. I love Eliza and Felton. Felton’s impetuous, determined nature with underlying gentleness made him a very realistic character. Eliza is delightful and engaging. I enjoyed how she grew as she learned to navigate the real world after having been secluded in the forest most of her life. Their unique relationship is an intriguing twist on the enemies-to-lovers trope. An authentic Regency setting and suspenseful mystery along with the wonderful characters and sweet romance combine to make a touching, entertaining read. I received a copy of this book from Barbour Publishing via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
