About the Book
"Mother and daughter Charlie and Eva never sought social media fame, but when a stunning photo of Eva went viral, fame found them. Now, after more than two years documenting life on the road in their vintage Airstream trailer, the duo has temporarily settled on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Eva is happily finishing her senior year of high school and applying to college, but Charlie longs for the adventures they left behind. When Eva goes missing less than a week before her graduation, it's Charlie who is immediately suspected of foul play--not just by their fans, but also by the police and the FBI. As a fight about one more road trip comes to light, and the truth about their relationship is questioned, Charlie realizes the rosy facade they portrayed online hid a complicated and potentially dangerous reality. Now, to clear her name and find out what has happened to her daughter, she'll have to confront her own role in Eva's disappearance--and whether she knows her daughter at all."--Book Synopsis

The Long Way Back is a thought-provoking story about an Insta-famous duo’s adventures taking a turn for the worse. The unexpected twists may seem far-fetched, but are they really? I really enjoyed this book. I’m ashamed to admit this was my first Nicole Baart book. It will not be the last!

Find out who Charlie and Eva are as the pages cannot stop turning to discover what is realy going on in their lives. So if you love suspense, thriller, mystery, and even a slight beginning love story; you will love this book. There is something for everyone. Pick yours up today!

Nicole captured the real-life messy love and dynamics of mother/daughter relationships. This book will keep you turning pages as you walk alongside the characters and their experiences. The passionate desire of parents to do the best for their children in contrast to the desperate desire for children to discover who they are on their own hits home and is written in a beautiful way. While I have loved some of Nicole’s other books more, this one does not disappoint - another great read!

The long Way Back by Nicole Baart is an addictive fast-paced thriller with plenty of family drama. It covers suspense, fear, hope, chills, and thrills perfectly timed to keep the reader rapt. Mother Charlie and daughter Eva became Insta famous overnight without wanting to find fame online. They travel around the country in an old Airstream trailer, while sharing their travel experience on their Instagram account. But things haven’t always been easy. These two are survivors. Once you start reading, you’ll be hooked! Charlie and Eva decided to step away from their online persona and settle down in a small town in Minnesota on Lake Superior, while Eva finishes her final year of high school. Anyone who reads this novel will have a sense of Lake Superior, even if they’ve never been there. The first problem that arose escalated into major conflict when Charlie suggests one last trip before Eva heads off to college. Things go from bad to worse when Eva went missing and a bad spotlight is placed on Charlie. Of course, the mother-daughter duo is aware of the dangers of social media. The fact that the two are always so meticulous when it comes to sharing personal content with followers will have your mind spinning with questions. I had an excellent time reading the unputdownable fun, twisty thriller. The story is told through both Eva and Charlie’s point of view. A mother who is confronted with the reality of her daughter growing up. A daughter who feels trapped by her mother’s interference. The connection between the duo is touching and at times bitter-sweet, seeing that both of them hold unspoken secrets. One of my favorite aspects of this novel was Eva’s college admissions essays. I loved getting to know her through her writing. Baart has done her job keeping the plot twisting and me second-guessing how it’s all going to end. The structure is hugely entertaining; Baart finds a way to weave Instagram posts into the action-packed book, which adds to the fun of reading this novel. The posts don’t slow the narrative down and keep the story’s momentum going. It’s a thrilling adventure from start to finish! Setting is a huge part of this extraordinary novel and will most likely persuade you to visit this beautiful destination. The setting not only dictates the atmosphere and characters, but also gives the reader a place to escape to. This is a book that you can read alone or with your book club, while exploring the vulnerability and strength of women. Thank you, Atria Books and Nicole Baart, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Intriguing story about a mother daughter relationship. The two are insta-famous for their posts about their cross-country trips, and when they settle down to try and have a nirmal senior year of high school, things dont turn out the way they hoped.

Happy Pub Day to Nicole Baart and The Long Way Back! This may look like a quiet character-driven story from the dreamy cover, but this plot is pulse-pounding and twisty once it starts moving. It's perfect summer reading. Teenaged Eva and her mother Charlie are Instagram-famous for their travel / lifestyle account. Together they lived in a vintage Airstream trailer and experienced the beauty of nature at various national parks. Then the pair returned to Charlie's Minnesota hometown so Eva could attend her senior year of high school. With graduation approaching, the duo disagree about their plans. Charlie wants one more summer traveling with her daughter, but Eva wants to hang out with her friends before going to college. Charlie and Eva go boating the day after a big argument, and then Eva disappears. Was there an accident? Did someone kidnap Eva? Did she leave on her own? As law enforcement officials investigate Eva's disappearance, Charlie is an early suspect. Then surprising clues are discovered that prove there's much about Eva's life that Charlie didn't know, even though she thought their bond was strong. This story is so gripping because it could happen today, both Eva and Charlie's Insta fame and in what happened to Eva. (To share more will spoil the rest of the plot for other readers.) While far from my life, the events felt realistic and believable all the way through. As a lifelong Midwesterner, I love reading novels set in our part of the country - life happens here too! This is an interesting exploration of motherhood, family bonds, and social media's impact on daily life. I just wish the ending hadn't been quite as "neat" as it was. Thank you to Atria Books for access to a review copy of this novel and to author Nicole Baart for the privilege of serving on her launch team.
This book will stick with you!

I was part of this book's early reader "team" in exchange for my honest review. Nothing is better than getting a sneak peek at a book and then LOVING it. The story is hard to describe without giving anything away, so I'll share the bits I loved. I loved the structure of the story - it is not all narrative. Nicole uses the Instagram posts and essays Eva wrote to move the story along. I found this helpful for long stints of reading since the pace changed. I loved how this book made me think about how I use social media and how I should talk to my kids about their use of it. Even when we think we are being careful, bad people can outsmart us! I LOVED that the book was set in Duluth, Minnesota. We spend a decent amount of time in that area each year, so it was a fun game to decide exactly where they were since the names of real places were changed for the story. If you are looking for your next page-turning summer read - look no further!
