About the Book
"He's cosplaying as her boyfriend but their feelings for each other are real in this romantic comedy from Seressia Glass. Sometimes Kenya Davenport believes she was switched at the hospital-how else could a lover of anime, gaming, and cosplay come from STEM parents? Still, Kenya dreams of being able to turn her creative hobby into a career. She finally has a chance to make it big when she joins the reality show competition Cosplay or No Way. There's just one catch: the challenge for the final round is all about iconic pairs, and the judges want the contestants' significant others to participate. Unfortunately, Kenya is as single as can be at the moment. Luckily her best friend, Cameron Lassiter, agrees to be her fake boyfriend for the show. Role-playing a couple in love will force them to explore what they're hiding under the mask of friendship. Can Kenya and Cam fake it until she makes it, or will she be real about her feelings, knowing it could cost her the best friend she's ever had?"--Book Synopsis

A cute cosplay rom com
3 out of 5 stars

The Love Con is a cute rom com with a friends-to-lover trope (I'm usually more of a fan for enemy-to-lovers!). Kenya is a finalist in a cosplay competition and the final round requires her to enlist the help of her best friend (maybe more-than-friend best friend), Cam. What I enjoyed: the characters were adorable and I loved how much Kenya and Cam supported / appreciated each other; Kenya's body positivity and confidence; highlighting the topic of microaggressions What I didn't love as much: the cheesy dialogue, the use of "babe" (am I the only one who hates that), how tough Kenya's family was on her, the implausible way Kenya and Cam started sharing a bed (even though they had 2 bedrooms). Thank you Berkley for my gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Berkley for my copy! I have been trying to get better at reading non thrillers, and I thank Berkley for putting on my radar. I think this would be the perfect book for someone, just wasn't a good fit for me. If you are into Rom Coms, Marvel, Cosplay, Reality Show Design Competitions then this would be the absolute perfect book for you.
Friends to lovers, an absolute blast to read

Kenya is competing in a cosplay competition game show on television when she makes it to the final despite what feels like one judge's outright disdain for her. The final episode will be a duo cosplay and she will be allowed some help from someone in her life. Her decision creates the perfect storm for a fake dating scheme with her best friend. All in all, I will say that I enjoyed this book. I really resonated with the topic of micro aggressions and the toll it takes on your mental state. I LOVED the body positivity and how it wasn't at all a main personality point. It was interesting to watch the couple stand strong through many trials throughout the story. I did feel as though the ending was a little rushed but I was pleased nonetheless. I would recommend this book to someone looking for a fun, friends to lovers romance story with a dash of depth.
