Book Synopsis

A pitch-perfect summer camp rom-com about two teens with nothing in common who come together to help break up a romance and unexpectedly start one of their own...

Sixteen-year-old Paisley Manning has been attending Camp Starling since she was a little girl, when her parents ran it together. For the last few years, since her father's death, she's been the one helping her mom run the camp behind the scenes. This year, however, will be Camp Starling's last hurrah because Paisley's mom has met a guy online and they're getting married.

Enter Hayden Bennett, who is working alongside Paisley. Paisley and Hayden are like oil and water. She follows the rules, and he seems to live to break them all. But when Hayden catches wind of Paisley's predicament, he has an idea. If a matchmaker in some computer algorithm caused the issue, a couple of real-life matchbreakers can fix it.

As they work to break up the happy couple, Paisley discovers that maybe Hayden's not so bad after all. Has she met her own perfect match in her fellow matchbreaker?

Take me to Camp Starling! Paisley Manning returns to her family’s summer camp, Camp Starling, as a counselor for the first time. Her mom has recently told her this would be her last year and she’s devastated. Hayden, the school troublemaker, has landed a spot as a counselor in the boys cabins and that is just not what Paisley needs. Before long, a plan is made to make sure things stay as they are. Will things go according to plan or will it all go up in smoke? The Match Breaker Summer was adorable! So fun, quick, and wholesome! The MCs are 16 years old and I’d probably recommend to 14 and up. This novel had such a sense of nostalgia with summer camp. It touches on a complex mother/daughter relationship, a first kiss and the importance of friends. Definitely one to pick up!

Rom Com for Teens and Teens at Heart

This is a great read for teens as the setting, characters and plot are perfect. The setting is a summer camp named Camp Starling and everything there has a bird theme. The owner of the camp, Ellen Manning, has a new beau and is planning on leaving her hometown and the camp behind as she moves her and her teen daughter Paisley to Wyoming to live with Dave. Paisley is overwhelmed with the possibility of leaving her beloved camp with all of the memories of her father behind, so when impish Hayden Bennett offers to help her break up her mom and Dave, she agrees and jumps into the plan. The story is told with a lot of wit and nostalgia and just plain fun. It is an entertaining, light and fast read that all ages can enjoy even though the target audience is young adults.
