About the Author
J.K. Rowling is the author of the seven Harry Potter books, which have sold over 500 million copies, been translated into over 80 languages, and made into eight blockbuster films. She also wrote three short series companion volumes for charity, including Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which later became the inspiration for a new series of films. Harry's story as a grown-up was later continued in a stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which J.K. Rowling wrote with playwright Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany. In 2020, she returned to publishing for younger children with the fairy tale The Ickabog, which she initially published for free online for children in lockdown, later donating all her book royalties to help vulnerable groups affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. J.K. Rowling has received many awards and honors for her writing, including for her detective series written under the name Robert Galbraith. She supports a wide number of humanitarian causes through her charitable trust Volant, and is the founder of the children's care reform charity Lumos. For as long as she can remember, J.K. Rowling wanted to be a writer, and is at her happiest in a room, making things up. She lives in Scotland with her family. Jim Field is an award-winning illustrator, character designer, and animation director. He has worked on a wide variety of projects, from music videos and title sequences to advertising and books. His first picture book, Cats Ahoy!, won the Booktrust Roald Dahl Funny Prize and was nominated for the Kate Greenaway award. Since then he has illustrated a string of bestselling, multi-award-winning children's books, including Frog on a Log? and The Lion Inside, as well as young fiction series Rabbit & Bear, middle-grade novels by David Baddiel, and his debut author-illustrator picture book Monsieur Roscoe On Vacation, a bilingual book that introduces first French words. He grew up in Farnborough, UK, worked in London, and now lives in Paris with his wife and young daughter.Dimensions (Overall): 9 Inches (H) x 1.1 Inches (W) x 6 Inches (D)

This is such a delightful book! It is quite long too- we start reading it at Thanksgiving and really have to prioritize reading it every night to finish by Christmas. But we have read it through twice now and both my 7 year old and 5 year old (and honestly me too) love it! We bought a second copy for my nephew and he loved it too.
Make this a movie please!

What a fun and exciting book! My 7yr old and I read this book together. And we had so much fun imagining the characters (besides the wonderfully drawn out illustrations). We laughed. We cried. We can’t wait to see this as a movie!!

this book is NOT a happy family Christmas tale. it is a depressing, sad book about a kid who's parents are getting a divorce. we struggled thorough the first 3 chapters and realized this depressing tale was not setting the mood for Christmas. why would someone subject their child to this kind of worry and heartbreak?! especially at Christmas! this is one book we will NOT be finishing.
Highly recommend

I never leave reviews but thought I would only because I was surprised with all the negative reviews. I just finished reading this book with my 9 year old and we loved it. This isn’t the first book that we have read where divorce was part of the story line (we recently read The In-Between). My daughter loved the different worlds presented in book and was interested in the emotions “lost” toward the end. She loved the authentic kindness CP displayed throughout the entire book, helping Jack not expecting anything in return. It was a book about loss and how when you live even if you are lost or feel lost that you are doing so out of love. It was a story that no matter a situation or circumstance hope can present opportunities one didn’t even know possible. It’s about growing and letting go of what is not meant for you now even if it was a part of your past and to focus on the current moment. Overall I thought it was a fun holiday read where st the very end Santa helps them arrive home just in time for Christmas to open one gift as a family.

Too scary. We didn't enjoy this. It is not as "Christmassy" as we were hoping. We read it before bed and my 7 year-old had trouble sleeping.

Within the first several chapters the main character (a kindergartener) overhears his parents in a yelling match and finds a lamp thrown to the ground after a fight. Then a couple chapters later another character’s mom leaves her dad. My 9 y/o asked why there was so much divorce in the book. Yikes. Pre-read suggested so you can either skip over content for read aloud or be prepared to address these kinds of questions/comments. Other than that, the storyline about the pig is cute and the chapters are nice and short - a few pages vs. Harry Potter’s standard of 20+!

I actually listened to the audio copy of this book so the my 6.5 year old. It is a bit deep and sometimes a bit scary for little kids. We did like the book as it was cute about trying to find their stuffed animal but the whole world in this book is a bit dark. Probably more appropriate for 8-10 year olds.
It's engaging but 'vanilla'

I bought this book to read to/with my children before bed. My girls are ages 8 and 6. This book holds their interest and keeps them mostly engaged for the 10-20 minutes that we read. I originally chose this book because the main character, Jack, has his lovey, and my girls each have a special lovey of their own so I figured that connection would be adorable. I didn’t realize the book is about divorce. That part is fine with me because it is real, it happens to people whom they know, and I think it’s an honest reflection of divorce from a child’s POV. However, this book is not what I was expecting from Rowling. I read every Harry Potter and thought this book would be on-par with that creativity and imagination. It is not. This book is very vanilla. It’s good. It’s just no where near Harry Pottery good.
Kids LOVE it

I bought this book in hopes that it would be a good chapter book to read to my kiddos nightly before bed. It does not disappoint! It is a great story that holds my kid's attention (8, 6, & 2). I ask them questions about the part we read the night before reading a new chapter, and I am amazed that my kids remember so many details. They have loved reading this book and begged me to read more, which I have always wished for. Great, great book.
