Would it surprise you to know that Joanna Gaines, Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, Oprah, Jerry Seinfeld, C. S. Lewis, Max Lucado, and Meryl Streep are all introverts? Even though introverts make up half the population, most people still don't fully understand what it means to be one.Research shows the qualities introverts may see as struggles can be their greatest strengths. Game Changer for Introverts

"Because of the way we process, we introverts often need longer to respond. We're not slow thinkers; we're deep thinkers." "Growth happens not by changing who we are but by learning how to move away from struggles and toward our strengths." These two excerpts from "The Powerful Purpose of Introverts" have really helped me as I discover what being an introvert really means and how It is actually a strength and not a weakness. It's freeing to know there's not something wrong with me for how God wired me but that being an introvert is actually what's right with me. It feels like Holly wrote this book just for me. I can't recommend this book enough for those wanting to delve deeper into what being an introvert really means.
Introverts are a Blessing

With open heart and true to herself, Holley writes with honestly about her introvert-ness. (You'd never know it to look at her, with that bright smile or sweet bubbling voice.) With Powerful Purpose, she shares her awkwardness and nervousness. Her insecurities, and uncomfortable feelings that makes her want to run or hide in the bathroom. Those times when she feels out of place and her brains turn to mush. (I'm sure we've all had those embarrassing moments, where you forget someone's name.) But behind her words are the insight of knowing how these moments or situations can be overcome and used for a purpose. You see introverts may be slow thinkers and they need time to process in any given situations, but that only gives them time to take in all the details others may miss. She writes "As introverts, we also respond slower because we're listening rather than thinking of what we want to say." She has done her research and is sharing it with you.

Holley hit a homer for me and my fellow introverts with this needed resource. Using some well-known and time-honored sources and studies, she pulls together God's purpose in wiring us the way He did. "You can be an introvert and a phenomenal leader," and "Introversion isn't shyness," were game-changers for my mindset. After a lifetime of trying to "overcome" being an introvert, I finally feel proud, confident, and purposeful in my introverted skin.

Loved this book, easy to read and hard to put down. Great book. Holley Gerth has always written amazing books and I’m so glad to read this one. Most people don’t believe me when i say I’m shy but taking the quiz and learning more about introverts I have benefited so much from this book. I’m not afraid anymore. I’m ok being who I am and know I will be just fine. Thank You Holley for writing this book.

I have learned so much about who I really am as an introvert and why. I’m not shy, I am outgoing. So why do I feel more need for alone time in nature, to settle into the quiet with a good book, or solitude after only a few hours at a gathering. I’m so thankful for so many scientifically backed answers as well as biblical ones. Such a wonderful book. I can’t stop talking about it with my Fam and friends.

As an introvert it felt like the world was often telling me I needed to be more outgoing and more talkative. This book helped me to see my introvert characteristics as strengths and gifts and something the world needs. I hope this book becomes among the most recognized resources for introverts. It contains a lot of information and it is in a very relatable format.

As an extrovert I decided to read this book with the deep desire to understand just how introverts think. Interestingly enough, we are not either/or introvert or extrovert. Through this book I have discovered I have a wee bit more introvert within than I thought!! Holley's writing is an awareness of truth about introverts. A quote from her book, "Before I understood my strengths as an introvert, I thought others had more to offer." Holley has peeled back the layers to reveal those introverted moments are truly a gift from God, His superpower within me. Truly an aha moment!

I love Holley Gerth books. This one is so different from the others. This one is more educational, more, if you are an introvert, of why you are. This is the science behind it. But it is also an encouragement to realize that you are important, the world needs you to be who you are. One of my favorite comments is: We introverts may not maintain a large network of acquaintances, but we excel in meaningful one-on-one relationships. This is an excellent book to be be read by both introverts and extroverts. It will help both to understand the introvert. It takes both introverts and extroverts to make the world we live in.

I always felt like I needed to apologize fir being an introvert - like I was “less than” or just a pale shadow of everyone else. It is refreshing and reaffirming to learn I was not lacking just because I enjoyed reading a book instead of a boisterous party, or that I needed alone time. This book and the scientific data provided gives me the freedom to be just who God designed me to be. Without apologies. Highly recommend this book.

This book is amazing! I used to get frustrated with myself when I needed extra time to think, felt nervous and awkward around people I didn't know... Holley does an excellent job describing introverts and has given me a new joy in knowing I have a unique purpose in this life. Being an introvert is not less than an extrovert, just different. We compliment each other like day and night, land, and sea. I highly recommend this wonderful book for everyone. Maybe understanding one another better would lead to more kindness in this world.

As an introvert and an eager student of psychology, I found Holley’s new book to be both affirming and interesting. She truly did her homework and provided scientific research, as well as information acquired through surveys and conversations, to support her work on introversion. This book, however, is so much more than facts and knowledge; it speaks life to introverts, and people in general. So many times while reading, I caught myself thinking, “Wow, it’s not just me.” There are biological reasons to explain why I tend to overthink, take longer to process thoughts and ideas, need more sleep, and require recovery periods after social events and lots of stimulation. I used to view my introversion as a liability, as being less than, but Holley’s book reminded me that I have strengths, skills, and a God-give purpose. In fact, my brain was wired on purpose, for a purpose. This book is chock full of good stuff: fascinating brain science, a variety of personality assessments to take or look up, and TONS of encouragement from a gifted author who truly cares about people. If you are an introvert or love an introvert, this book is a must read!

I made lots of notes while reading this book. This book has shown me I'm not alone in my introversion. I saw so much of myself in these pages. One passage that stood out to me was “While, yes, we want (and need) time on our own, introverts also share an intense love for people and a drive to make a difference in this world.”

There are so many aspects of this book I could point to, it’s easier to simply say, “You need to read this book!” Not to mention it’ll be more beneficial and effective for you. I really appreciated how Holley started by laying a foundation of science tied to a variety of personality tests. This helped me understand by showing me how the personality tests don’t compete against each other, but truly make a whole complete picture. Not just looking at one side, but more of a 360º view. Because Holley tied in the scientific side of explanation in a way I could understand, I have a better idea how my attempts to, “suck it up and keep moving” are far from effective or helpful. For the first time, I understand how I’m not just being a “social wimp”. The last part I’m going to comment on is how the beginning of a chapter has a visual of the struggles I know well at one end, with the strength it is tied to at the other end. It helped me see how some struggles I need to work on seeing the strength more and others I have pretty well-balanced. Of course, this is ever changing, but with the visual in mind it gives me a tool to “see” where my energy is. You really do need to read this book – not just if you’re an introvert, but especially if you enjoy learning about personalities and how we are each unique.

I may not be an introvert myself but I certainly know a lot of introverts! Personality and the way God has wired us have always been fascinating to me and with the occasional comment that I exhibit introvert tendencies, I was curious, how did God wire introverts, and how did He wire extroverts and what are the differences and strengths? Holley Gerth wrote one of my favorite books, You're Loved No Matter What, a book that helped me realize and release my perceived need to be perfect. After finishing that book and reading many of her other books, I knew that she would have amazing insight into the way we are designed and the science behind it. The science piece of The Powerful Purpose of Introverts grabbed my attention because this is not just opinion that drives the message of this book, it's experience and research, something that gives you a reason to believe the words written on the pages. Gerth gives insight into the differences between the way introvert and extrovert brains are wired. She walks readers through the steps of discovering the aspects of their personalities. We are all complicated human beings, intricately designed, and knowing the way we are wired is exactly what helps us relate to those around us. One of the best tests I ever took was the Enneagram, which is one of the tests Gerth wrote about in this book. The Enneagram helped me to realize what I tend to do when I'm stressed and allowed me to have grace for myself in learning how to react differently and to learn that I need to quiet the inner critic. Gerth also talks about how loving ourselves through self-acceptance leads to our ability to be able to be our unique selves for the world and through that, learn to love others around us in the way that feels best to us. I am a teacher and sincerely believe that we need to teach children how to be kind and love one another and this doesn't change when we are adults. I think the beautiful part of all of our personalities is that we show love in different ways. This is exhibited through our interactions with people at work and at home, it shows up in the way we give and receive love (our love languages). I also believe that as extroverts and introverts the way we pour out love may look different but one is not more effective than the other. Gerth writes, "If you want to grow in love, measure nothing. Instead, make one connection, have one conversation, show kindness to one person at a time--which introverts naturally do well." By just being themselves, introverts can make another human being feel noticed and loved. My love language for receiving love is quality time, my sister is an introvert, and her ability to listen and hear what I am saying makes me feel known. If we truly stopped living our lives trying to be someone else, how many lives could we impact by just being us? This is why I love this book because it gives introverts (and extroverts) the freedom to be exactly who they were created to be. I would highly recommend the book, The Powerful Purpose of Introverts, to anyone, whether extrovert or introvert, who is curious about the way they are wired and wants to learn the next steps to loving those around them, including themselves!

If you're an introvert who is looking for encouragement, inspiration, and/or validation, or if you're an extrovert who is trying to understand introverts, then this book is for you. This book is packed with scientific information in easy-to-understand terms, introspection (for you), and real-life but relatable examples. There also are many graphics that help you dig deeper into who you are as an introvert. I've really enjoyed reading (and underlining) this book and will be recommending it to all of my introvert friends!

As an introvert when I read Holley’s books I wonder how she got into my head as well as marvel at how well she explains me to me. In a way that makes you shake with relief it’s not just me—and then feel proud of your progress. Better understanding the science of why introverts and extroverts brains are wired differently is just light for my spirit. You gain not only a deeper appreciation for your own attributes but for the extroverts as well. That was the surprise bonus for me. Thank you Holley!

When I got married and became a mother, I had no idea I was introverted, or what that even meant, I just knew I was struggling to get through life. I honestly thought that there was something innately wrong with me. I constantly wondered, "Why can't I just be normal?" "Why am I not able to do all the things "everyone else" does?" "Why am I constantly exhausted?" Holley's books have opened my eyes to the truth that I am wonderfully, purposefully made, and this book is helping me prove to myself that I can thrive as an introvert and a mother/wife. I always appreciate Holley's scientific approach, and there are always so many "ah-ha!" moments when everything just clicks. If you have never read any of Holley's books, man or woman, introvert or extrovert, this is the one you need to read. It's full of Holley's amazing insights, and contains all sorts of assessments that help you discover so many nuances of how you uniquely relate to the world around you. Whether you are an introvert, or you love one, you will be blessed to read this book. This would be great to read with a spouse/significant other! I'll be reading it again with my husband.
I Learned to Embrace Being an Introvert

As an introvert, I always felt I took a backseat to everything, never in the limelight. This book has helped me realize the gift I have as an introvert and how I can bless others through being introverted. It changed my whole perspective on it. I also really liked the scientific information on how our nervous systems are different from extroverts, and we can't change how we are wired. We were designed that way intentionally. One of my favorite quotes from the book: "Growth happens not by changing who we are but by learning how to move away from struggles and toward our strengths."
