About the Book

"Brooklyn-based Hannah is a bestselling author struggling to write her second book after personal losses. Her older sister, Sara, still lives in Chatham, Cape Cod, where they grew up, and is married with four children. Once a dedicated librarian, Sara dreams of reviving her love affair with literature, but instead, she is stuck with too many family responsibilities and a fizzling marriage. When Hannah gets the chance to retreat to her aunt's oceanfront house in Chatham for the summer, it seems like just the thing to get her creative juices flowing. And she'll be able to spend more time with Sara, who is eager to find her way back into the workforce, to do something rewarding and book-related. The pair will spend the summer making friends, rekindling romance- especially Spencer, an old acquaintance from high school-turned very hot grump- and opening themselves up to the magic of books and the beach."--

Hannah, a newly minted best selling rom-com author living in Brooklyn for the past 10 years, heads home to Cape Cod to try and take care of her health, get over her writers block, re-connect with her sister, and visit her Aunt Maddie. Sara, with all of her kids now in school, is looking forward to getting a part-time job rather than continuing to be a stay at home mom. Her husband isn't very supportive. Maddie, working in the publishing world, has separated from her husband of many years. Neither she nor he really know why they separated, but he's living in their Manhattan apartment, while she lives in Chatham Cape Cod. All three of these scenarios could warrant their own book, so the stories were kind of all over the place. Hannah meeting two different men and dating both. Sara finding a job and also finding a bit of dissatisfaction in her husband's attitude to her job. Maddie, not really knowing what she's missing, but she knows there is something not right. All of the tendrils come together in the end, and the book was satisfying. A very good beach read and also a book that you can put down and come back to time and time again until it's finished. It's not riveting, but it's not boring either. It's kind of real life in a nutshell.
