Book Synopsis
In the wake of tragedy, a group of friends makes a pact that will cause them to reunite a decade later and embark upon a life-changing adventure together--from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Meant to Be. Four freshmen arrive at college from completely different worlds: Lainey, a California party girl with a flair for drama; Tyson, a brilliant scholar and aspiring lawyer from Washington, D.C.; Summer, an ambitious, recruited athlete from the Midwest; and Hannah, a mild-mannered southerner who is content to quietly round out the circle of big personalities. Soon after arriving on campus, they strike up a conversation in their shared dorm, and the seeds of friendship are planted. As their college years fly by, their bond intensifies and the four become inseparable. But as graduation nears, their lives are forever changed after a desperate act leads to tragic consequences. Stunned and heartbroken, they make a pact, promising to always be there for one another, no matter how separated they may become by circumstances or distance. Ten years later, Hannah is anticipating what should be one of the happiest moments of her life when everything is suddenly turned upside down. Calling on her closest friends, it soon becomes clear that they are all facing their own crossroads. True to their promise, they agree to take a time out from lives headed in wrong directions and embark on a shared journey of self-discovery, forgiveness, and acceptance. In this tender portrayal of grief, love, and hope, Emily Giffin asks: When things fall apart, who will be at our sides, helping us pick up the pieces?About the Author

Emily Giffin is one of my favorite authors so I was super excited to receive an eARC of her new book, The Summer Pact. After tragedy strikes, three college friends make a pact to come together when one of them is in need. A decade later, Hannah’s world falls apart and the friends find themselves on a trip together. The Summer Pact was a great story of friendship and how friends literally become your family. I loved the alternating POV. It moved the story along quickly and helped you to understand each character's personality. Overall, I really enjoyed The Summer Pact. It drew me in straight from the prologue and held my attention the entire book. I definitely recommend it.

"The Summer Pact" is a beautifully written, emotionally resonant novel that captures the complexities of friendship and the journey towards healing. This was a beautiful story about a group of friends, a shared tragedy and lifelong loyalty to one another. Emily Giffin does not disappoint in her writing. **The Summer Pact deals with real life situations that can be difficult to read for some. Trigger Warnings for issues surrounding suicide, infidelity and alcoholism. ** Hannah, Summer, Lainey and Tyson met in college one night while they were all hanging out in the study lounge of their dorm. Hannah is the Southern girl who is tame and quiet. Summer is the perfectionist and athlete who is planning to go to medical school. Lainey is the dramatic, crazy, fun friend with no filter and Tyson, from Washington D.C.is our laid-back man of the group, planning to go to law school. They each come from completely different backgrounds but the night they meet, they form a bond that will last and leave them inseparable throughout their college years. As exams are ending, right before graduation, the group endures a terrible tragedy that will leave them in shock and with questions that cannot be answered. It will also lead to their pact declaring that no matter the time, distance or situation, they will all be there for one another in times of need. As Hannah is preparing to get married ten years later, her world is flipped upside down. She knows she is not in a good place, and she calls Lainey. Without hesitation, Lainey drops everything and goes to Hannah and Tyson is not far behind. As the three of them are back together, it is obvious that each person in the group is fighting their own battles and their reunion, though not under the best circumstances, may be what they all need. Buckle up for all of the emotions and enjoy every minute of this story. Thank you so much to NetGalley, Emily Giffin and Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine for this advanced digital reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
