Book Synopsis

Lisa Scottoline, the #1 bestselling author of What Happened to the Bennetts, presents another pulse-pounding domestic thriller about family, justice, and the lies that tear us apart.

TJ Devlin is the charming disappointment in the prominent Devlin family, all of whom are lawyers at their highly successful firm--except him. After a stint in prison and rehab for alcoholism, TJ can't get hired anywhere except at the firm, in a make-work job with the title of investigator.

But one night, TJ's world turns upside down after his older brother John confesses that he just murdered one of the clients, an accountant he'd confronted with proof of embezzlement. It seems impossible coming from John, the firstborn son and Most Valuable Devlin.

TJ plunges into the investigation, seizing the chance to prove his worth and save his brother. But in no time, TJ and John find themselves entangled in a lethal web of deception and murder. TJ will fight to save his family, but what he learns might break them first.

The book has a lot of political undertones. I do read nonfiction books but when I read fiction I want entertainment. Unfortunately the book had a lot of potential.

In the eyes of the world the Devlin family seems to have it all. A prominent law firm which consists of everyone in the family being a lawyer except for TJ Devlin. His brother John as well as his sister Gabby are lawyers along with there parents. All things are going fine as the family is about to celebrate there father’s birthday when John asks Tj for help. John thinks he might of killed someone and knowing that TJ has served time in prison in addition to rehab for alcohol who else would know how to help. Since TJ has never completed college and has a prison record he works for the family as an investigator. When one of there clients is murdered it seems that John the prodigal son might be in deeper then expected. Leave it Ms. Scottoline to keep us guessing and wondering why all these strange things like being followed, having the office ransacked and even finding one of there homes bugged there has to be more to this. We see what a wonderful sister Gabby is doing pro bono and always supporting TJ and asks for his help. TJ will do anything for his family even if certain family secrets are exposed.
