I looked this up on the Smithsonian's website. It is historically correct insofar as its depiction of the women warriors. The actual plot is fiction but the historical basis is true. It is a marvelous movie and tells of the African Amazons of Dahomey, who were destroyed by the French. It is well worth getting. African women are too often portrayed as victims and weak. This movie flies in the face of that stereotype. One problem for viewers might be that they were active in the slave trade, capturing individuals to sell as slaves, but I don't think that negate their achievements.
