About the Book
48 stories and poems detail the experiences of women in the 1960s and 1970s.Book Synopsis
These forty-eight powerful stories and poems etch in vivid detail the breakthrough moments experienced by women during the life-changing era that was the '60s and '70s. And finally, here, they tell it like it was. Their stories range from Vietnam to France, from Chile to England, from the Haight-Ashbury to Greenwich Village, and from the Deep South to the Midwest. They write of cultural reverberations that reached into farm kitchens and city "pads," from coffeehouse jazz clubs to psychedelic rock concerts. This inspiring collection celebrates the women of the '60s and '70s, reminds them of the importance of their legacy, and seeks to motivate young women today.Review Quotes
"This marvelous anthology shows the vital role outrider women played in changing our world--often overlooked, they were the heart of the '60s revolution."
--Brenda Knight, author of Women of the Beat Generation "Times They Were A-Changing is the book long missing from the packed second-wave feminism shelf. Finally, the women you never heard from are speaking in their own powerful voices about how each pushed America toward greater equality and justice. If you are a woman over a certain age, you will find yourself in this book's stories. If you are a woman of any other age, you will find your own story informed and enriched by these beautifully written, honest, and evocative essays."
--Gloria Feldt, Cofounder and President of Take the Lead, former President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America
