Tom & Jerry: Willy Wonka Charlie And T (DVD)

This review will not show up verified because I purchased it from another online retailer (the huge one with their own delivery vans). Since they no longer allow me to review, for no apparent reason, I now review here! I grew up watching Tom and Jerry on DVD as a child in China and I also grew up watching the Johnny Depp movie when I was in my tweens. I only recently watched the original one with Gene Wilder, and while looking for the BluRay, this DVD popped up. I decided why not, it might be nostalgic, I might enjoy it. Unfortunately the movie fell short of my expectations. The whole storyline with Tom and Jerry seemed extremely forced like the writers were desperate to try to incorporate it into the storyline. Also the voice actors seemed to not be very enthusiastic overall, no emotions whatsoever. You do get an extra musical number though, with Slugworth singing a modified version of Veruca Salt's "I Want It Now" song. I am somewhat a fan of musicals so it was nice they included an extra song. Honestly, I think I had more fun watching the extras. This DVD included quite a number of extras of classic Tom and Jerry, Tom and Jerry Kids, and even a few non Tom and Jerry ones featuring Droopy. Those were super nostalgic because they w ere from my childhood, and I really enjoyed watching them. As for the case, they cheaped out and used one of those DVD cases with the huge cutouts on the front and back, and is super flexible. If you want your DVD to last, you'll need a better quality replacement case. It's unfortunate manufacturers keep pulling stunts like this to save a few pennies.

Great movie and animation. If you liked the original movie, you will love this one. The color is spectacular.
