Q: Does the mattress sit flat on the top, or is there a "lip" that the mattress sits in so it doesn't have a chance to move around?

Doesn't hold up well falling apart after a year. it seemed sturdy at first, but after a year its breaking. the white paint is chipping off the sides Just not what I excepted it to look like after only 1 years use since it's made for children. I've bought cheaper beds in the past and they held up much longer. another model of this same company (one with 3 drawer) was purchased for my 12 year old son and the center wood broke after 2 weeks. I will be staying away from this brand in the future. the only reason this isn't one star is because I really like the design. to bad it didn't hold up well.

I like how sturdy (heavy) the platform is. I did not like that prices arrive damaged. It was too much of a pain to return then (ie it is very heavy). This is not for the first-time diy’r; the directions are vague but manageable if you have put together a fair amount of furniture.

Arrived in rough condition with some minor scratches and upon assembling it together it broke on the first day (the wood split leaving the bolt exposed). Information in the paper manual does not match what it is provided on the item description and specifics online. The cubbies also don’t fit standard bins so you can only use the two they provided or they don’t fit correctly. Reached out to the company prior to purchasing through Target and the fact that their customer service was awful should have prevented me from ordering; shame on me. Not worth the money and should have opted for a different bed from a different company.
