Uncle Nearest 1856 is the first spirit brand in history to commemorate an African-American. Nearest Green was the first known African-American Master Distiller. Affectionately nicknamed Uncle Nearest by his friends and family in Lynchburg, Tenn., Nearest is credited with helping perfect the globally recognized Lincoln County Process. This unique filtering of bourbon through sugar maple charcoal was named after the county where Nearest lived and made whiskey. In its first year, Uncle Nearest 1856 garnered 12 medals, including Double Gold in China and Gold Medals in San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles. Rated 95 by Cigar & Spirits Magazine, and named one of the Top 5 Whiskies in the World, Uncle Nearest has earned its place in the ultra-premium market.

I gift this and 1884 wherever I go from Europe to Africa to the Continental US. NO ONE HAS ever complained while many are shocked with the backstory. This costs more than 1884 which is my standard gift but this bottle is my upgraded gift. Kudos to Target for carrying and I'm looking forward to more locations offering the line.
