This ice cream has great earl grey flavor without being bitter at all. The texture is perfectly creamy. It is slightly sweet and, in my opinion, best served something sweeter with complimentary flavors. I could not sit and eat a bucket of this, but it would be tasty as party of a composed dessert plate, or served in a bowl with other flavors.
Weird, bland, smooth

Tastes like shaving foam. No tea flavor, but an artificial lavendar overpowers the tea flavor if at all present. Even tried refrigerating to soft-serve consistency to improve the flavor, but did not help, it was BITTER then. This is not the only disappointing product from the brand. Their ice cream bars and other pints have little to no flavor as well. 2 good things are the smooth texture and less sugar. Even store-brands are more flavorful than this expensive brand. Bought their book when it came out, guess what, their recipes too are the same story. Happened to go to LA, went past their store in June, but never felt like making a stop despite being an ice cream lover because all of what I bought were tasteless.
Worth a try!

Yum! Def give it a try! It’s one of a kind so I can see why some people may not like it. It taste just like earl grey tea and the ingredients make it very rich and creamy! our store doesn’t carry this flavor anymore so I started buying it here at target.

Van Leeuwen’s is always high quality ice cream and Earl Grey is their best flavor in my opinion. It’s so unique, not too sweet, and really just a perfect dessert. I wish it was easier to find!!

To all the reviewers saying "I tried one bite and hated it" -- try again. Van Leeuwen brand has some fairly unique flavors and it may take a few bites to acclimate your taste buds. For Earl Gray in particular, the first several bites taste bitter, but as you eat more the sugar and cream balance it out wonderfully so you get the bergamot with just the right hint of bitterness for the brewed tea. This is really elevated stuff. I've tried this flavor and Honey Comb, loved it - can't wait to try all the rest!

The flavor is elegant af. Too bad that this flavor is stocked at a Target close to my door. Serve it with some waffers or cake as a dessert after a meal. Your guests will absolutely love it.

My family hated it. It taste like the bitter peel of a lemon and lavender together. After awhile you can't taste the bitter. I like it but won't pay that amount for it again. It's Ok but not my favorite. My whole family thought it was gross. So I got to eat the whole tiny carton of it.
So good

Tastes just like earl grey tea. It’s definitely different, but if you move earl grey and ice cream, this is the perfect combination of both.

I recently moved out of Brooklyn and VanLeeuwen was my favorite place to walk to on a summer night for ice cream. So finding this now in Target of all places was a dream. The Early Grey is my absolute favorite (Pistachio not far behind). The reviews on here were surprising…someone said it tasted like feet? No honey. You just need an adult palate.

No product has ever made me want to sign up for a retail site just to leave a review, but jeez... It's overwhelmingly sweet, and feels like it's trying to disguise the taste of a foot. I thought it would taste like milk tea, but it was awful after the first bite. Wanted to throw it out, but it cost too much money. The brand itself isn't bad, just this flavor. Try the honeycomb flavor instead, at least it's supposed to be sweet.

I love this ice cream! That being said- I think it should be called London fog ice cream. Many people would say this is too sweet- it’s ice cream, what did you expect? If you like London fogs- you’re going to love this!
Pleasantly surprised!

Earl grey is one of my favorite ice cream flavors but I’ve only ever seen it in upscale scoop shops, not the grocery store. When I saw this I had to try it. It is a touch sweet, but not overwhelmingly so, and it definitely tastes like earl grey! The texture is amazing. My first time purchasing this brand and I’m looking forward to trying more flavors.
Great quality, but ultimately a disappointment

I love earl grey tea. So when I found out this was available in pints I was ready to try it. I've actually had earl grey tea ice cream before, from an upscale chain in Los Angeles. It had no flavor. You cannot however escape this ice cream's tea and bergamot flavor. It's definitively earl grey. The texture is creamy and smooth. It's not very sweet and that's okay. If you've had Van Leeuwen Pistachio you know what I mean. There's no flecks of black tea. It seems it's brewed before being added in and for me that's where the problem is. The black tea flavor is too bitter, like the tea has steeped too long or you took that last sip from the bottom of the cup and it was stale and cold. This makes the flavor too unpleasant to buy again which is a shame. Your taste buds might disagree, but I'll stick with a standard cup or London fog latte.
