About this item

  • 1. Trim roots back to about 4” in length. 2. Soak plants in 6” of water standing upright for about 2-4 hours before planting. 3. Dig a hole with shovel 14” to 16” deep and wider than the roots when they are spread out. 4. Place the vine in the hole. Backfill the hole with original soil free of herbicide residue, large clods, or rocks. 5. Tap down the soil gently as you proceed, while keeping the plant straight and upright. 6. When the hole is ¾ filled, raise the vine to about 4” above the soil line. 7. Continue filling the hole until you are flush with the soil line. Gently tamp down the soil 8. You should mound the vine. – Loose soil (Herbicide free) must be placed over the vine. This mound should extend about 1” above the tip of the plant so that none of the plant is showing. This is essential since the soil protects the buds from temperature extremes as the vine comes out of the dormancy. 9. Notice the wax on the top of the vine, this is normal and should not be removed. The plant will break through when the shoots begin to bud in a few weeks. 10. When growth appears, remove the soil mound from around the vine so that the graft union is well above the soil. ** Do not over irrigate. More damage and delayed growth has come from over-irrigation than from under-irrigation. For optimal growing conditions, soil should be moist and never saturated.

Description

Is it really true - only wineries can grow grapes? Of course not! They can be grown by anyone and are one of the most widely produced fruits in the world. In fact, grape vines can be grown throughout most of the Unites States. They do require care but essentially are no harder to grow then any other plant in your garden. Turning the fruit into wine however is an art form and much has been written on the subject. Often the subject matter turns complex and involved, while you are just wanting to try your hand at it and have some fun while doing it. But best yet, often the vines themselves are as beautiful and ornamental as the fruit and wine is delicious.
Our premium grafted 1 year old bareroot grape vines ship while they are in a dormant state, without leaves, flowers and/or fruit while it is in its sleeping beauty stage. They ship grafted on good quality root stock, with a waxed bud.

Grows well in Ohio/Midwest

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Cabernet Sauvignon grape plant is a great choice for casual home gardeners, like myself. When we first received the plant in the mail, it looked like nothing more than a sad stick in a tube of dirt. We quickly got it planted in April and over the last couple of months, it’s really taken off! It’s vining and already fruiting (there’s a large bundle of grapes already starting to mature). I was honestly surprised at how well this plant is doing so early in the summer. I wasn’t sure how well it would do in Ohio but it seems to be growing well. I look forward to trying to make a couple of cans of wine with this later in the year!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My Cabernet Sauvignon Grape Vine is doing reallly well! I planted it in a nice sunny spot a few days after receiving it, and it already has a couple fairly large leaves on it. I look forward to seeing how it continues to grow over the next couple years.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so happy to open the box containing my Van Zyverden Premium Grafted Bareroot Grape Vine Cabernet Sauvignon Plant. As a person who enjoys Cabernet Sauvignon, it’ll be so much fun to grow the fruit on the vine. The planting instructions are easy to follow, but I’ll have to be patient waiting for it to grow and blossom.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Plantcetera Premium Grafted Bareroot Grapevine in the Cabernet Sauvignon is such an amazing plant. I have not had it long but it is growing so fast. The plant is healthy and the new growth is beautiful. I can’t wait to see the fruit that will be produced in this vine. It has been the easier grapevine to grow. What a wonderful product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Super excited my Van Zyverden Premium Grafted Bareroot Grape Vine Cabernet Sauvignon arrived. I immediately unpackaged it. The plant is in perfect shape and the roots are healthy. I followed the planting directions on the bag making sure I planted it deep enough. I planted my grape vine in a large, deep pot. I have it on my deck. I will wait until next year to transplant it in the ground. I have a fairly new yard, so I thought I would start growing it in a pot. I would like to start making my own wine, so I can’t wait until I start getting grapes. Van Zyverden plants are excellent. I planted Van Zyverden Golden Apeldoorn Tulips bulbs last fall and they came up. Thank you Van Zyverden!
