Description
This wooden dice board game is a traditional game of counting, addition, and probability that dates back to the 18th century when the game was enjoyed by Norman fishermen after a long day at sea. Today the game is played with family, used in classrooms for teaching addition and probability, and is even a betting game played in pubs all over Europe! Roll the dice and lay down any numerical combination of tiles that match your roll. Just keep on rolling until you can no longer match your roll on the remaining tiles. The lowest score wins the game. This classic version is made of natural wood with a felt playing surface. It features 12 wooden number tiles rather than the typical nine numbers of other versions, bringing more numerical combinations into play. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This game is for the young and old at heart. The high quality wood box construction will last for years to come. This is a very simplistic game. You roll the dice and try to shut down the number tabs without having any leftover at the end to win. I have personally played this game with my 13 year old and 6 year old. My 13 year old said the game was really fun. It's easy to understand and fast paced. My 6 year old also enjoyed it and was able to catch on quickly. I liked that it made him use math skills without him even thinking about the educational aspect! I will be keeping this at the bar in my house for people to pass time. We have a plethora of games there and people love them.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Shut the box is a nice, simple, minimalistic game that is a good way to pass the time. Strategy is required to try and get the lowest score at the end which can get your competitive juices slightly flowing but other than that it is a no thrills game. The game goes by pretty quickly so is a good warm up game for game nights or something that can be used on road/camping trips. This deluxe wood edition is very sturdy so I'm confident it will last a long time. I would recommend this game to people who love games but don't like a lot of pieces or lengthy instructions. If I were to buy this product I would buy the edition with more numbers as I like a little bit more of a challenge and longer game play.

This is not only a fun game but it also helps teach the younger one's addition. Did you know that it was played originally in Normandy by fishermen? After a long day on their boats, they would spend their earnings on this betting game. That is the adult version. Lol. So if you enjoy playing games with your family I highly recommend this one.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so beyond happy when I was chosen to receive the Shut the Box game! My family had one of these growing up at my cabin, and we all played it for hours! We used to literally wait in line to be next up! This was before we all had phones so there were no phone game options. So when I received this, it first of all brought up so many good memories, and then playing it, it reminded me how much fun it is to actually hold and play a game in person, versus virtually on our phones. This is a good quality wood, and is sturdy. I am sure I will have this game for years and years, and will pass it along to my daughters family. All of my other games are put in their box, and stored in a closet. Not this guy.. I like to keep it on the lower shelf on my side table so I have easy access to it when ever I want to throw some dice for awhile. My guests have grabbed it and played too! Always fun, and great for kids learning math!

I like how nice the wood is and how durable the set it. I don't see it breaking any time soon. The game is fun and simple, so our 7 year old can join in on the strategy game!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So shut the box is a game I had never heard of before but I was excited to try out a new game. Overall the box is made of good quality and seems like it will last a very long time. The game came with a small set of instructions that honestly were a little confusing. I had to look online about how to play shut the box and found a couple videos that showed exactly how to play it and how to keep score. Once we figured out how to play it, it was actually pretty fun. My son and I tested it out first. I love that it teaches him about math as that is one of his worst subjects. I can see us playing this game for years to come and also playing it with more friends and family. I gave it four stars because it was fun but it lost a star because of the lack of instructions that came with it and how confusing they were. Overall though I would recommend this to my friends and family as we had lots of fun playing it.
