COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN

I love this series! Hope Harbor is like a favorite vacation spot I can visit again and again in these books! I can almost smell the ocean and feel the sand beneath my feet. I always enjoy meeting the old characters again and seeing how the last ones are becoming part of the community. My favorite one is Charlie the taco man and his sea gull sidekicks! Needing a fresh start Ashley Scott decides to really step out of her comfort zone, travel 2500 miles (approximately, yes I checked) to purchase an historic Victorian mansion. Her nerves are a little one frazzled after reading about the rumors the house is haunted and tales of spotting of an ethereal woman in white walking on the grounds. Upon arriving as she starts to enter the gate a man in a mask carrying a chainsaw moves out of the hedge. You know here her mind goes! (Mine went there too!) He passes the car, much to her relief, and walks away. She finds out later this is Jon, the landscaper. He is a war veteran deeply scarred both physically and emotionally. The owner of the home, eighty year old Rose Fitzgerald is also quite mysterious and a bit different. She has locked herself away in this mansion for many years where she lives alone. Ashley finds that the purchasing the home comes with some unusual conditions. This story was constantly surprising me with unexpected circumstances that arose and most of all with Ashley peeling away the layers and discovering the most incredible secrets of Jon and Rose. I did the “stay up too late and read” night because I couldn't put it down! It was beautiful to see how no matter how hurt a person is or misguided in their thinking about their previous life, they overcome it! New life can begin no matter how difficult the past is. Ashley being able to see past Jon’s disfigurement to who he truly was touched my heart. Each character has their own ghosts from their past to deal with and courageously moves forward. I love how this unfolds! I received this book from Revell Publishing in exchange for an honest review. The opinions stated are my own.

Heartwarming Contemporary Romance

Windswept Way takes us back to Hope Harbor, Oregon, for another visit with the likable residents of this lovely seacoast village. We're introduced to Rose, Ashley, and Jonathan as they join forces to restore a beloved historical residence but the ultimate restoration project may actually take place in their own lives. Author Irene Hannon shares a touching story of finding one's purpose, learning to trust, and seeing beyond outward appearances, and she also gives readers a reunion with Charlie, Father Murphy, and Reverend Baker. I loved Rose's efforts to unite Ashley and Jonathan and I was moved by the special friendship that she finds with Charlie. How could this happen to a person who purposely avoided people?!?! Windswept Way is awesome contemporary fiction and I'm so glad that there are more books planned for this Hope Harbor series. Hannon excels in writing realistic stories that tug at your heartstrings and inspire you to search your soul, and I was truly 'swept away' while reading this story! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

Heartfelt and Emotional Read

This book is so heartfelt, so emotional and just amazing, I loved it SO much! I loved Rose, Ashley and Jon's story. Each of them has been hurt in the past in different ways and have been struggling to move forward in life. Their paths have crossed with each other and they start to heal and move forward together. This story was done SO well and I really fell in love with each character and loved seeing how they grew and overcame their struggles. I also loved the side characters; they were just as interesting as the main characters. I didn't realize this book was in a series and after reading it I don't think you have to read them in order. I didn't feel lost or like there was something missing from the story at all. Highly recommend this book and I am excited to check out more of the books in this series!!

I love the Hope Harbor series by Irene Hannon. Windswept Way is the ninth book in the series but can be read as a standalone. I have read the series out of order (I still need to read book 2), but it has not hindered my enjoyment. I enjoyed reading Ashley and Jon's story and was rooting for them to have their happily ever after. They both have obstacles that stand in the way of a relationship. It was interesting to see a bit of a Beauty and the Beast vibe. I loved seeing some "old" characters and meeting new ones! I loved the addition of Rose to the story and seeing her blossom. I imagine it must be hard to keep a storyline going through nine stories. However, Hannon does a great job producing fresh content for each book while staying true to Hope Harbor and seeing all the other couples we have rooted for throughout this series. I am looking forward to reading the next book (coming next year) and going back and reading the second book. Thank you to Revell and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

Huge, contented sighs escape my lips as I return to the sights, sounds, and smells of the charming, small town ambience of Hope Harbor—boats gently bobbing in the marina, planters filled with colorful flowers lining the sidewalk, quaint shops with bright awnings, and the savory aromas of Charley's food truck. History lover, Ashley Scott, arrives in Hope Harbor to buy Edgecliff—a haunted Victorian mansion—and on her first visit runs into a masked, tall, muscular man wielding a chain saw. Not a great meet-cute, that's for sure! When Ashley hires the reclusive, enigmatic, Jon Gray to landscape Edgecliff, they both learn some valuable, insightful life lessons...courtesy of our old Hope Harbor friend, Charley, and two humorous, bickering clergyman. What a beautiful, well-written story! I'll admit to shedding a few tears in spite of myself. How cruel people can be!—but so very thankful for the Ashleys and Charleys of this world who bring light into people's lives and have the amazing ability to see beyond physical attributes to the heart! "But in a town with the name of Hope Harbor, perhaps anything was possible." *I received a complimentary ARC of this book via the publisher and was under no obligation to write a positive review.*

Windswept Way by Irene Hannon is an intriguing book. The main characters Ashley, Rose, and Jon each have their own stories. The reader will enjoy seeing how their stories come together. From page one, Ashley seems to have all of the bases covered when it comes to forming a partnership with Rose; however, from the start the reader is left with many questions about how this partnership will play out. Jon and Ashley have to figure out the best way to work together for the good of the partnership. The secondary characters are interesting as well and are guilty of trying to bring everything and everybody together. Set in Oregon, the setting is absolutely breathtaking! It makes you want to visit the plantation Edgecliff and just sit back and relax. This is a well written story and one the reader will have a hard time putting down. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. The opinions in this review are my own.

Sweet Romance with Theme of Hope

Ashley, Rose and Jonathan are three people going though life in survival mode, all of them injured by their pasts and each of them struggling in different ways to forge a new and hopeful future for themselves. When they meet in Hope Harbor, their lives are irrevocably changed and leave a lesson behind for each reader. The characters were lovable as well as relatable. I especially liked the elderly Rose, a recluse who needs encouragement to come out of her shell. The plot is original and thought-provoking, dealing with love and loss as well as with acceptance of one’s injuries and the ability to move past them. The story captured my heart and mind as I was enraptured by the developing romance between two injured souls who hardly dared to hope for a future. All of my favorite characters from previous books in the series made an appearance, and I was especially glad to see Charlie and his taco truck dispensing his wisdom in a timely manner as always. And the seagulls were there, too, playing on the beach near the historic estate that Ashley and Rose are renovating as an event venue. I loved everything about this book, from beginning to end, but nothing more than the tale of being storm tossed but not destroyed. With a well-crafted story and a good pace, this is a book to savor the fruits of its lessons and to share with others, whether it be in a book group or with friends. All opinions expressed are my own.

This is my first opportunity to read a book from this author. It was a good stand alone book, although was, of course, the introduction to the series for me. I enjoyed the characters and felt the struggles that were a part of their lives, especially Jonathan Gray whose scarred face turns him inward. The story showed the inner pains that were felt. The story takes place in Oregon and is a sweet contemporary romance taking place in an historic estate they want to turn into a beautiful event venue. This is a Christian book that will warm your heart. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts are my own.

INNER NOT OUTER BEAUTY

4 out of 5 stars

“A beautiful woman would never want a man like him. He’d made his peace with that long ago…,” Jon reminds himself in Irene Hannon’s novel, Windswept Way. ~ What ~ The ninth in the Hope Harbor series, this three-hundred-fifty-two-page paperback targets those interested in a romance about how inner beauty trumps outward vanity when living in a small town. Using slang words such as heck, dang, and drat, the topics of war injuries and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. The ending includes an excerpt from another book series, acknowledgments, the author’s biography, and advertisements. In this current-day story based in a fictional coastal town in Oregon, thirty-two-year-old Ashley has left her job and a broken relationship in Tennessee to take a chance in restoring and promoting an old run-down Victorian house on the coast. With the elderly owner’s approval, she wants to turn it into a showplace for beautiful events. When she meets wounded warrior Jonathan, she must consider what “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” really means. As the house gets restored, both Ashley and Jon have to move on from their pasts to heal their shattered hearts. ~ Why ~ This is a quick read about abiding love and strong faith in one another as hurting souls restore life, laughter, and love. I appreciate Rose’s role in how life changed for her. If you have read others in the series, you will remember some of the cherished characters such as Charlie, the clerics, and two seagulls. I live in Oregon, and I like how the book’s scenery is well-depicted and the town is realistic. It can be read as a stand-alone book. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not like continuing stories of small town living and everyone knowing each other’s business may not care for this clean Christian romance. Those who do not believe in God may pass it up, although it is not the theme of the book. The romance is predictable. ~ Wish ~ I loved that maps of the town were included, but a list of characters would be helpful. I wish all pronouns of God were capitalized for reverence. ~ Want ~ If you like a romance that focuses on one’s inner not outer characteristics, this tale of acceptance in a small town would be a cozy read on a stormy day at the coast. Thanks to Revell and Interviews & Reviews for this complimentary book. I am under no obligation to give a positive review.
