Good recipe book for family dinners

Reading the cookbook about why the recipes are how they are was helpful. It’s for the parent or individual who needs to make dinner, but they are tired from a long day. This book had ways to make getting a meal on the table easier without the guilt of taking shortcuts (salad mix for example), the meals are done in about 30mins and there are options for individuals with food sensitivities. So far I’ve made about a dozen of the recipes for my family and they have all tasted pretty good. The servings size is for usually 4-6 people in her recipes. I am glad I got her book because I love her recipes online.

Falls flat

I wanted to like this as I have enjoyed baking quite a few of Amy’s recipes featured on her blog. Unfortunately it fell flat for me and I can’t justify the cost. I really don’t need a cookbook to tell me how to make a quesadilla several ways. The recipe for chicken tikka masala calls for jarred tikka masala sauce. I get that this is supposed to be quick recipes for the busy parent, but come on. Some of these recipes are just painfully obvious (see sheet pan broccoli, potatoes and sausage…). There’s also a recipe for steamed broccoli and roasted carrots. Nothing groundbreaking here! Also, I feel that she should have included instructions for making dried beans or using fresh corn instead of canned. Also, since this is obviously for beginner cooks, there should be instructions on checking internal temp of the fish and chicken instead of “cook thoroughly.”
