Q: I like knives heavy enough that the weight does the cutting. How heavy is this knife? what does it weigh (grams or ounces)?
submitted by Lorelei - 5 years ago
A: The 8" Chef's Knife (default) weighs 7.25 ounces. Four Star is mid-weight because of the lighter handle. Traditional, riveted styles will be heavier. For example, our Zwilling Pro 8" Chef's Knife weighs 9.17 ounces.

Recently broke my six inch knife and needed a replacement. I've had a Zwilling set for 20 years and was super happy to get this. Good balance and sharp as all get out. Great knife.

Love this knife it's the all around workhorse in our kitchen amid an array of other German, French and Japanese knives to choose from. Takes a lot of abuse and bounces right back with a couple of swipes on the honing steel.

A little disappointed with the gouge in the handle. Supposed to be brand new and seems like it is with the exception of tge handle.

Bought the 10" Four Star Chef's Knife in 1992 or 93. Used it pretty much every day since. Certainly have used it more than once per week since. It is my preferred knife of the 4 Zwillings I own. I use it for every kitchen task. In the 32 +/- years of use these are the simplest of my observations; 1. It takes a good edge when sharpened. 2. The handle can become a little slick when wet and will then twist in my hand due to the "round" plastic handle. 3. The weight and balance of the knife feels very good to me every time I pick it up and use it. 4. It is hard to sharpen, it takes a lot of work running it through the sharpener to put an edge back on it but it holds that edge well for a satisfactory length of use. I would buy it again, but only if the Zwilling Pro knives were no longer available. This knife, after 32 years of use, will most likely last me the rest of my life so even though it was very expensive when I bought it in 1992 it has turned out to be an excellent investment.

So far, this knife has been outstanding. I have several good knives including some custom Japanese ones. None have been nearly as sharp or seemed as durable as this one!

Not as well made as before. The knife is sharp, but the bolster is not finished well and the edge of the bolster is sharp, cutting into fingers when holding the knife. On versions I’ve bought before, the edges of the bolster are carefully smoothed. This matters when using the knife a lot.
