Q: Can this thermometer, inserted into meat, go directly in oven? Can it withstand 425 degree oven?

Q: An it be used in candy making?

submitted by Nancy - 1 year ago
  • A: Hi Nancy, We recommend an actual candy/deep fry thermometer which is longer and goes to a higher temperature. The stem on the 1" instant read dial is not very long so it depends on the pan being used and it only goes up to 220F, while most candy recipes require higher temperatures. Good news is that Target does carry a Target candy/deep fry thermometer so please take a look at that item. Thanks!

Q: the face of the thermometer shows 0, 20......145. How would one measure the temp of water for yeast growth? Looking for temps btw. 20 and 145. I don't see them on the dial.

submitted by Linda - 3 years ago
  • A: The thermometer has markings for the other degrees of temperatures; the photo is angled in a manner that is obscuring the rest of the dial face. We will work to add additional images. Thanks!

Q: Can I use this for water temperature?

submitted by Brenda - 5 years ago

Q: How do you use a dial thermometer? Do you insert the thermometer into the pen part?

submitted by Arthur - 6 years ago
  • A: To check the temperature of the food, insert the stem of the thermometer into the food. After stabilizing, the current temperature is shown on the dial. The sleeve is used for storage of the thermometer when not in use. Also, you can thread the stem of the thermometer through the hole on the end of the sleeve to act as a a holder and keep hands away from

This thermometer takes FOREVER to read the temperature of the food item you're using it for. It slowly ticks up while your food is out of the oven getting cold. It is NOT accurate. I used my old thermometer side by side with this one and the old one showed the temperature at 160 degrees and this one stayed at 140 degrees. If I had relied on the Taylor brand thermometer, my food would have been dry and overcooked. It was a waste of money and headed for the landfill.

reads as much as 10 degrees lower when compared to a very accurate thermometer. The error depends on what temperature range you are trying to get a reading. Some temp readings are less than 10 degrees lower but still off enough that I would tend to overcook foods. I don't recommend.

I liked the Taylor 1” Instant-Read Analog Dial Kitchen Meat Cooking Thermometer for its quick readings and ease of use. However, the small dial can be hard to read, especially in low light.
