Q: Does anyone have problems/issues's with their Ubbi's really smelling when they have the lid open? Despite having an empty trash bag inside....? I know some smells can linger in many trash cans, but this seems to be different.

A: Hi there! The Ubbi diaper pail is made of steel and paired with rubber seals to create an airtight container that keeps all odors locked inside. Due to its contents the inside of the pail can smell and when the lids are opened, some odors may escape, but our promise is that the odors will not permeate through the steel into the room when the lids are closed.The Ubbi diaper pail does not require any special refills and can be used with any standard size kitchen trash bag which allows for more frequent bag changing. We do have a lavender-scented odor absorbing gel as well as our lavender-scented diaper sacks to individually wrap diapers to help keep the smell at bay.

Ive tried everything to make it not stink- deodorizers, bleach, letting it sit in the sun for hours- and nothing helps. This morning I walked into my sons room after him sleeping with the door shut for 11 hours and the whole room smelled of the diaper pail, and the lid was shut. Ive determined its just time to get rid of the pail sadly.

submitted byMom of three - 5 years agoA: Hi there! The sliding lid of the Ubbi diaper pail can easily be used with one hand while dealing with a squirming baby! The sliding lid is actually engaged with a magnet to further keep the container airtight, but just simply slightly push down on the handle and slide the lid back. To close the sliding lid, there is no need to push down on the handle because the magnet is already disengaged so just slide it back into the closed position. The reason that the Ubbi diaper pail was designed with a sliding lid rather than a foot pedal is because the sliding lid minimizes air disruption and is only large enough to quickly drop in a tightly rolled up diaper whereas pails with foot pedals maximize air disruption and can further waft odors into the air. Q: The dimensions you have listed are different than the one on the Ubbi website. The dimensions on the Ubbi website are 8.4"W x 19.5" H x 11.4" D. Is this measured differently if there is only one size?

For reference the pail holds a 13-gallon bag so anything similar will work just fine. In addition to the cloth liners, you can also use cloth diapers!

The handle just broke off after 17 months of use. Disappointed it didn't last through one child. Part of the lid also chipped within a year. It also smells sooo bad once our baby started solids LOL. Does not keep the smell contained. If you go with this one, just make sure you switch the bag out more than weekly, which we do not. So that one might be more of a user error. Love the look of it and the lock is really nice with a curious toddler. Just disappointed in the quality of the lid.

We have been using this pail for 6 months & from month 3 it smelled gross. I have cleaned it, we use Ubbi brand bags AND even the ubbi brand scent absorbers. The pail is closed tightly & it smells up the nursery. Would not recommend.

Love the size of pail and convenience but after a couple of months it stinks so bad. I have cleaned it multiple times without any luck. I took it apart and I believe the smell is imbedded in the rubber seal. I can not get the smell out nor find a replacement.

It only lasts a couple of years didn’t make it with two kids- had to order a replacement for the inside and it rusts on the inside and turns a yellow color. Breaks when you lift it. They stop warranty after a year or so. Would not recommend.

Less than a year in, the seal failed and the whole place stinks because of this. It worked well when it was new and suddenly one day the seal stopped working.

HATE this product and HATE their customer service. No matter what we do (based off of manufacturer recommendations) this thing SMELLS HORRID. Contact customer service? Unprofessional and make you jump through a million hoops. Ended up just throwing it away because it’s worthless.

We added this to our registry and we're so glad we did! The smell is well contained and not having to buy special bags is a plus. The only downfall is that I wish it was taller. My husband and I are both over 6ft, so having to bend down so far can be a pain

Strongly considering of throwing it out. It stinks like crazy. We’ve been using it since January. And I clean it constantly and still stinks. The worse of it all I put the diapers in a dog poop bag before throwing it in the diaper pail. And it stinks so bad still.

I received this diaper pail from my registry and was originally pleased with its size and aesthetic. However, as time has gone on, the diaper pail has started to REEK. Every time we open it the room fills with the scent of old poop. We tried to deep clean all of the parts with bleach etc, and discovered that the main issue is that the plastic seal takes on the smell of the diapers…permanently. My son is 15 months now but we’ve been dealing with this issue for at least the last 6. This product is not made to last. Don’t waste your money.

We purchased one for each of our kiddos and they’ve held up well. They really contain the smell and I love that they take regular garbage bags. I’m surprised by the negative reviews. We will occasionally set it outside just to air out for a bit but it’s a diaper pail, it’s going to smell when open just like any other garbage can.

The lid broke twice, after normal use. The first time we reached out to ubbi support and they replaced it. The process was long and drawn out. There was a lot of proof of owning the product. This isn't a quality product.

Pail is easy to open and close, has plenty of space for used diapers and keeps the smell contained so far. We love this trash in our nursery. My only gripe is that sometimes it is hard to get the garbage bag out. Works with regular trash bags to save you money instead of requiring a proprietary bag.

Would HIGHLY advise you do not buy this diaper pail. If you put more than 15-20 diapers in it the bags will vacuum seal into the pail and is impossible to remove without destroying the bag. They also say you can use any 13 gallon bags in it. Well by the time a 13 gallon bag is full enough to take out it has permanently adhered itself to the inside. So you take them out earlier and the bag is only 1/4 full which means you’re going through bags nearly daily. 8 gallon bags work better but are still only half full when you throw them away. After a couple days of ripped bags I resorted to drilling a hole in the bottom to break the vacuum but that means it smells. Overall, horrible design and any diaper pail would work better than this. The only reason any sane person would buy this or recommend it is because it looks cute. But function is more important than fashion and this thing don’t function.

This is the worst diaper pail we’ve had. We are on baby four and this is our third diaper pail. We used to have a basic Playtex diaper genie, and then moved to a nicer diaper genie. I would have purchased that same diaper pail this time around, but they apparently don’t make it anymore. I went with this one bc it advertised itself as being stink-free bc of the steel. Wrong. As soon as you open it to put a diaper in, the most horrible stink fills the room and stays that way for at least 10 min. Learning this, I made sure to only open it for literally ONE SECOND, shove the diaper in, and close it super fast. Even then, it smells. I think some amount of stink is a given, but this is awful. I only ever let the bag inside get half full before taking it out. This is where it gets really bad. The process of removing the bag of dirty diapers requires you to open it for a little bit obviously and it smells like death. It’s overwhelming and the smells lingers upstairs for at least an hour. My baby is only 2 months old and I’m considering getting rid of this and just putting a small wastecan in there and taking it out every day. That sucks considering the cost of this thing. Overall, I did give it two stars bc I like that you can use any bag instead of having to buy expensive refills.

It arrived dented, which I’ve read has happened to others. Maybe Ubbi should invest in better packaging considering this is an expensive product. Super disappointed and Target offered to send me a replacement if I mailed back the other, I am very pregnant and it’s too much of a hassle when there’s a chance the replacement will have a dent too.

I ended up buying this pail on sale during the baby sale, and it was the best decision. I am 6 days postpartum and not only do I use this for my baby's diapers, but I also use it for my postpartum pads which is nice because it contains all of it in one place and there is absolutely no smell. The really nice feature is you can use a regular trash bag and do not have to spend money on special bags, which is what sold us initially. Definitely holds a lot so you can stuff that bad boy up.

I liked it was easy for me to put diapers in to keep smell from goijg around house but after maybe a year of having it, the smell escapes now and its already rusting from the inside. Honestly i wouldve loved it more if it werent for that, even after washing it, smell still lingered in it.
