Q: I am also unable to sharpen this pencil. The outer coating is plastic, not product. It would appear that the "lead" would be pushed up or twisted up in the plastic casing. I will be returning.

Q: We appreciate you saying you can sharpen these, but how?? I bought this and can’t use a typical eye pencil sharpener, nor a regular writing pencil sharpener. What do you use to sharpen with? Very disappointed in this.

Returned after finding no way to turn it to get more product out. Also there are no indications on the package on whether the pencil needs manually sharpened, or not. It feels like a plastic case so it can’t be sharpened, so it should rotate but it doesn’t. And what does spool mean in the instructions? They need to fix this. Waste of time, for sure.

Feedback from our consumers is very important to us and helps us improve all of our products. This new generation of liners provides great color payoff but needs a gentle touch and a sharp blade to sharpen successfully. For best results, insert the pencil into the sharpener no more than 1/4 of an inch. If you push the pencil too far into the sharpener, the blade will grab too much and become difficult to sharpen. The goal is to shave off the resin in a thin curl to reveal more liner. The pencil should be sharpened frequently so that 3 or 4 gentle turns are sufficient to achieve the desired result. There's a bit of a learning curve but you'll master it in no time. A new sharpener with a fresh blade can make a big difference. We hope this helps!

Come on Maybelline this is a poor product lots of people have complained about this. It’s time to change. I threw the last eyeliner tattoo studio in the trash and mistakenly bought another one. I’m asking myself why did I buy this crap again…?

Been putting brows on for 50+ years. I thought I broke the pencil, then a review told me how to sharpen, ok, I got it. Lose a lot of product in sharpening process. But I love maybelline.

I bought this brow pencil in deep brown color, cuz i have medium skin tone and brown black hair. But the deep brown color is very dark, it looks almost black. Its not waterproof and it is not at all waxy. But it goes on smooth on an eyebrow. The price does not suit the product. It dhould be cheaper.

I like to color and how this looks wearing it. It does not sharpen easily with a regular sharpener because the outside is almost a plastic material. I think this should be roll up pencil and forget the sharpening. I won’t be buying another!

There can be a slight learning curve to getting a good point restored. These new generation gel liners need a sharp blade and gentle touch to sharpen well. For best results don’t try to push the pencil into the sharpener. At the slightest resistance, you’re in far enough. Gently turn and shave off a thin layer to reveal more liner. Pushing the pencil in too far will cause the blade to grab too much of the resin, the pencil won’t sharpen well that way. If its been awhile since you bought a new sharpener, you’ll be surprised the difference a fresh blade can make. This stuff really does stay on! It lasts all day even through sweat. And it DOES sharpen. Like another comment on here, you can’t use a cheap junky school sharpener. Get a makeup sharpener, the one that has the smaller sharpener opening. That makes a huge difference because it properly sharpens it to the correct shape evenly. If you try to sharpen through a larger opening it will be a mess. I originally tried a sharpener I had at home made for pencils but purchased one at Ulta for under $3 and it worked so much better. The same commenter that said about using a proper sharpener also mentioned it’s because it’s a coated wood so it doesn’t dry out. 100%. This stuff sets pretty quickly so I advise if coloring in your brows and you make a mistake, get it fixed quickly or you will have a difficult time taking it off!

Loved the product, it stayed on through my workout which is always the struggle. I was really disappointed when I found it didn’t seem to extend. I went on the actual Maybelline website and it shows you have to sharpen it! Not sure how far down it goes, but at least I got more than just the 3 uses out of it.

The product is fine. The design is awful. I threw one away after 3 uses because I couldn't figure it out. Months later I bought a second one buy mistake. (Thought I was buying the brow tint pen which is great) after3 uses, I stuck a pin in the "lead" to see if it really only went down 1/8". Realized there was Moreland googled to find this page. Okay used my sharpener (not going to buy yours just for this). Works okay for now. Will NOT buy again.

Don’t buy this pencil if you want it for more than a week. I purchased this a week ago then couldn’t find how to get more pencil as had used it every day. Which I might say was great and did the job, but no way to wind up more pencil. I went online, read all the reviews and same thing. One lovely customer suggested breaking off the brush , use a Q tip and push up pencil. Hurray more to use!! Definite defect that Maybelline should address as actual product is great , just need more thought put into the design of the pencil.

I like your product BUT your instructions aren't very clear, at least not clear enough on how to sharpen the pencil. Since it's not the normal like a regular pencil and it's PLASTIC So that's not Normal for one to sharpen it. I hope this enlightens you because I'm wondering how many either throw it away or return it because they just don't know....I was one of those I have bought it before and ended up throwing it away. But am I stupid or not, I don’t know how to “extend” the pencil after the new first crayon finish? Do I twist the pencil? Where? How? Do I sharpen it? But isn’t it made of plastic? Used literally 2x and i can’t get anymore product out (does not twist up or sharpen). I have pretty dark/thick eyebrows so i get i use a lot of product but this is definitely not worth the money.
